Morning view down the Par-5 5th fairway. A strong drive, especially to the center-right fairway, sets you up to go for the green in two! Photo submitted by vmustang on 04/25/2021

Good course
Phoenix in March what can you say it is what it is expense wise. Course was a good balance between cost and getting to golf. Staff was very friendly and helpful. First time on this course tangled with drainage ditch too much.
Peace of play was good. 4:20.
Warm up range very limited with short range balls.
Overall would come back again
Keep your workout here!
I’ve always like this course but due to some recent injuries, it is not very walkable nor handicap friendly, even with a flag.
The back 9 is the best. Great desert vistas and interesting holes. The clubhouse is stunning.
Have an up and down hill workout and enjoy.
An ok course
San Marcos is an old school course with a lot of trees and small greens protected by bunkers. Overall condition is good but the bunkers need work. They are all packed dirt preventing sand shots
Nice Course
Nice course. The layout makes it a bit of a shooting gallery, but fairways are fairly wide. Course is in good condition....saw a bald eagle out there!
Excellent fairways, nice greens, but the bunkers could use some more sand in them, quite compacted.
Good Course for the Price
So never having played here before, but chose it for the price, I was pleasantly surprised. Good but small greens, slightly firm that won’t necessarily hold a shot. Some of the bunkers had very little sand over hard pan, some others were decent. Pay attention to the irrigation canal. Carry it or leave it short. Fairways and tees were in good shape, some difficult tee shots from the black tees with the placement of trees down the fairway. Would play here again.
First time here
Very flat course but nice trees make it visually interesting. Greens and fairwats good, bunkers could be better. Pace a tad slow but not unbearable. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Will definitely be back
SM 0221
Greens and sand traps were good tee boxes and fairways not so much. Very little grass on the fairways and tee boxes pretty beat up and hard to get tees in the ground.
San Marcos
Nice course with lots of long holes. Could use fairway maps at each hole as we were surprised by canals of water running through several times.
Fun Course with Challenging Greens
Course was in good condition and enjoyable to play. The greens were playing fast which was amplified by the challenging contouring. Numerous green side bunkers added to the challenge as well. The course feels a little tight in some spots but there are also some wide open fairways that encourage a golfer to go for it. This was my first visit and the staff were very helpful in getting the round started. I would definitely play again.
February 2024
Course is in good shape
Greens were good
Fairways were good
Sand traps need more sand. Some had good depth but others didn’t.
Great Place to play - BUT
I like San Marcos but slow play and sand traps make me wonder if I will come back. I am from the Midwest and a golf round is usually 3 - 4 hours. At San Marcos, it was 4 1/2. In addition, the course set-up with sand traps on both sides of all greens is diabolical - contributing to the slow play ( put some sand in the traps to give the no-pros a chance without hitting the ball across the green into the other side trap).
Steady as she goes!!
This is about my 5th or 6th time playing San Marcos and it never disappoints. Quality course for under $100 is rare this time of year.
Staff is very friendly from check in to the 19th hole. Course / greens in great shape. Solid option to other public courses.
