Morning view down the Par-5 5th fairway. A strong drive, especially to the center-right fairway, sets you up to go for the green in two! Photo submitted by vmustang on 04/25/2021

Fairways need more and thicker turf
Ever try hitting a golf ball off the kitchen floor? That is about what you will encounter at San Marcos. Grass is so short in the fairways!

Course layout is nice overall. Some areas need some work in regard to fairways and flooding.
The staff is very friendly and professional, the bar / lounge environment is nice and the cook is great! Better keep him on staff, our lunch meals were awesome.
So slow
Course was in great condition, staff is friendly. The course isn’t difficult it’s actually a perfect course to work on your game but the pace of play was so slow and I mean the slowest I have seen anywhere. The marshaling needs to improve and they need to space out the tee times but at least 5 more minutes. Slow play and felt so crowded.
Not Worth of Green Fee
Basic layout. Condition is pretty decent. To me, it’s not with the green fee they are asking. Id pay $40 max for a track like this.
Please fix your ball marks on the greens, one of yours and one for those who don’t.
👍👍
Disappointing
Booked a 12:54 tee time, giving us 4 hours and 40 minutes to finish before sunset. Found out that they were running behind 15 minutes, then was told 30 minutes by the starter. Ended up about 20 minutes. A lot of waiting between shots. Someone had anger management issues in some group in front of us, two large divots taken out of the green near the hole. Finished 10 minutes after sunset, a long day.
beginners course
Never again. 5 and a half hour round. Not a ranger in sight. Course was full of people who probably never played before.
Nice course, I would go again.
This was my first time here so I can't speak of conditions well after re-seeding but today they were above average. People that complain saying they didn't know it was cart path only are being ridiculous. There were signs everywhere. Multiple people told me ahead of time.
The good:
Nice practice facilities.
Nice clubhouse and great staff. I saw the cart girl multiple times. I saw Marshalls multiple times.
Nice course. It is still coming back from reseeding but it was in great condition.
For the value, I highly recommend it.
The bad: Pace of Play I booked for 11:30 in the afternoon. I was told I could go out whenever because they weren't that busy. Which was awesome. The group two groups ahead of me were slow. The immediate group ahead of me was nice and told me I could go through but I wasn't in a big rush. I had no one behind me so I took longer on all my shots which was nice. At one point the group ahead of me became out of my sight.
I joined up with the two in front of me on the back nine because the two in front of them became four and were slow. They apparently added two more and it got bad.
The confusing thing was I saw multiple marshalls out there.
I will play again but I feel like this could have all been avoided. Maybe they were talked to but didn't care, Judging by how they treated the carts and their pace of play that group probably didn't care.
Nice but slow
We player on saterday afternoon. It was carpath only (overseeded). Small greens & portected by lots of sand traps. Sand traps missing sand. Almost 5 hours to play. Nice layout, greens in good condition.
Cart Path Makes a Different Game
Had fun but staying on the cart path for the first time after overseeding brought on a different game.
How about yardage markers
Pace of play was ok 4:20 not great. Saw many people trying to figure out distance to the hole. I found a distance on a sprinkler head it said 181 I thought seemed reasonable walk 15 yds found another 242 yds next sprinkler head had nothing. At least a stick red, white blue, 100,150 & 200 next to cart path. Stood on a number of tees wondering if group in front of us were out of range, guessed wrong 2 times. Fun course.
