Palm Course - McCormick Ranch Photo submitted by tainge on 03/29/2013
Never Again.
My expectations must have been WAY TOO HIGH for this course in the Scottsdale area.
I anticipated a 'resort' style course meticulously maintained with elevation changes etcetera BUT NO none of that.
They're maximizing profit with minimum reinvestment into their course.
Too many rounds per year and it shows.
The photos show the conditions when I was on site and the Director of Golf stated that "We have NOT deemed our course unplayable" How can that be??
VERY DISAPPOINTED
Though should be in prime condition in March, grass growth very poor throughout course. On course signage poor. Practice green dead spots. Driving range mats are good but can't use tees in mats very effectively. Should supply tees as they travel out on to forward tee area and can't get yours back with out dodging other players hitting.
Low areas very wet and poor grass growth. Place has been neglected; cart paths/buildings/course. Went in on a Sat at 3:15PM for meal and kitchen closes at 3PM on a Sat????? Way to expensive for value .....
Do not play on a Saturday
We were behind multiple groups of 5 and 6 mid day on a Saturday and resulted in an over 5 hour round. Course was in poor shape for $200+ and not worth it even a little bit.
Disappointment
Perhaps my expectations of golf courses in Scottsdale AZ are too high.
I was thinking that I was going to be playing a well manicured course, with beautiful fairways, fluffy sand bunkers and smooth rolling greens.
What I got was a course that volume of rounds and profits outweigh the love of golf
Way too many rounds of golf course with no rules.
Golfers were inconsiderate... slow play, not raking bunkers, not repairing divots and a course maintenance team that doesn't believe in reinvesting time nor money in upkeep.
Needless to say.... I'll NOT be returning.
Rude Staff, Bad Conditions, Avoid
Went on a golf trip with 20 guys, all of which flew across the country to enjoy all the great courses Scottsdale has to offer.
McCormick Ranch was by far the biggest disappointment and it wasn’t even close.
It poured rain for 2 hours. It happens. Standing water everywhere, course was unplayable. We kindly asked the staff for a refund and/or rain check and were very rudely talked down to by the staff.
Jim in particular was especially condescending and kept saying he has “his private owner he needs to keep happy”. Apparently they forgot that without customer their course doesn’t exist.
Worst of all they charged the card on file 72 hours in advance which is an outrageous policy to have. This should have been a red flag from the start.
Give you business to courses who respect their customer, not this joke of a course.
the course was overpriced for the condition of the course
Greens were in decent shape but well pt marked.
Off fairway conditions were mainly completely dead and barren.
Definitely not worth the money (approx $150)
Very disappointed in condition of course for what I paid to play. Very thin or no grass everywhere except right around green where it was then too wet often with puddles. Sand traps were way below acceptable with
Hard packed sand not turned over for who knows how long. Greens were acceptable and rolled true. I have played city courses for half the price that were better than MR since I have been down here. Not going back.
Overall, not bad
Staff were friendly and efficient. Pace of play wasn’t an issue. The front is in good condition but the back, not so much. Range fills up quickly so you might be out of luck if you want to warm up before your round. Price is what it is for winter golf in Scottsdale.
Great layout!
If you want a challenge with the beautiful vistas that Scottsdale has to offer, this is the course for you!
The “Pine” course is a great layout that will challenge golfers of all abilities. It’s a course where hopefuls qualify for the WASTE MANAGEMENT TOURNAMENT!
Good value
Enjoyed my 2nd round here, playing both the Palm and pine. Course was a little more lush, fairways and greens on the pine, lots less water. Palm was more challenging, played both from tips. Green break more than anticipated. A few green with lots of slope make for almost unfair pin placements. Cart guys are nice, club house guys don’t seem to want to be there. Great practice facilities; range, two chipping greens and putting green. Not enough sand in bunkers however, so even with a good shot, club bounces into the ball, so that was frustrating. Overall I enjoyed both courses, would play pine again.
WET
Started after 1.5 hr rain delay which cleared the course. Course policy NO rain checks. Managed 13 holes before darkness.
