Carlton Oaks was at one time an excellent, must play course designed by a true legend. Over the years it has continued to go down hill. While they have newer carts (no gps) it doesn’t make the bumpy ride over ruts, mud puddles, or cracked and uneven paths any more comfortable.

Although with a cold beer in hand while waiting ten minutes or more to tee off on every hole, the carts do make for a soft place to sit.

More interesting was the Marshalls that were rolling two deep, one on the front and one on the back, did nothing to speed up play. Taking over 4 hours to get through twelve holes exceeded my patience so I wrote off the greens fees as a learning experience.

To be fair, with tight budgets and cost of water continuing to rise, they spend what money they do have in the right places.

The tee boxes are above average condition and their greens, collars and approaches are maintained very well. Surprisingly the greens aren’t riddled with pitch marks, which could be the result of the caliber of players who do not know what they are missing with other courses, or the difficulty of the course (note: you will be playing perfectly executed tee shots from subpar fairways or worse yet an abundance of ground under repair), but I’d like to give the credit to the grounds crew. Also, the greens are so slow that you may need a couple of rounds of putting to get used to more realistic speeds at higher end courses before you find your putter again.

My advice: wait until the reviews improve before you play because even at twilight it is not worth the cost.

I took a friend visiting from out of town to plan Carlton Oaks. The course was in very poor condition, I was a little embarrassed to say the least.

I'm sure the flood had something to do with the course conditions but only along the river bed.. the rest of the course was in terrible condition.

The course is in horrible shape and I would not recommend it to anybody. There was hardly any grass on the fairways and the only thing that was Galway decent is the Greens. There was grass on them but a little bit slow.

After the floods last week. I have played yesterday and today and the greens are dressed and looking great.

This course is in terrible shape. With the sole exception of the greens, everything else looks like a rough cow pasture. This course has a nice design and layout, but almost no maintenance at all. They should be charging no more than $30 including a cart. You will be really disappointed if you are paying full price to play here... This could be a nice course if someone would put money into it.

I've never seen so many gopher holes in my life. Needed to see my chiropractor after driving the cart on this course.

I normally play another course regularly, but this one is always my 1st alternate for a local, affordable, walkable and challenging round. Fairways can be a little sparse but greens are obviously their priority, making for a great course to walk (or ride) and work on your game. Never that crowded during the week. Staff always friendly. Driving range is showing it's age.

Can be an interesting course if they clean up and put some effort on the course. It looks like someone just want to own the course without maintaining,…
We played early morning,,, it was freezing cold, couldn’t even get coffee because restaurant was closed. They don’t have to serve food but at least get something warm tea or coffee,…first thing in the morning.

The course does not look like it has been maintained in months. The leaves on the ground alone made it very difficult to locate the ball. The fairways were dead and bounced like concrete. Maybe 4 holes had ok greens.

Needs work, tee boxes shabby, fairways rough, greens OK. Pace slow.
