Played this course for the first time. It was a good price for a round in the Valley.. Had rather decent expectations. Then we hit our first shots on the first hole. First thing you notice is the poor condition of the course, starting on the tee boxes. Brown patchy, bare dirt areas. Looked as if the hadn’t been touched in quite some time. Fairways were very spotty. Dirt, bare and sparse grass. Overall, tee and fairways left a lot to be desired. The good. It’s a great layout. The holes are designed well and offer a decent challenge. The greens. In good condition, slow for our taste, but taken care of. It just seems as if they gave up caring for the course. Maybe it was time of year for us.. I.e before they close, reseed and overhaul prior to the winter season. But for the money, not up to standards.
Dog Track with Nice Staff
Looking within the ruins, this was probably a very nice golf resort...a long time ago. Managed very well, but needs millions of dollars in repairs like all Palm Springs courses built in the 1970's.
Fairways were bad
While we are playing they are mowing the fairways. As they now the cut grass is left behind clumped together. There were multiple times we couldn't find our ball when it landed on the fairway because of the cut grass. Once the guy mowing the lawn came within ten feet of me when I was swinging.
I wish golf now had told me the greens were being aerified
GPS should be a must on the carts. Greens need a little love.
Management tried to charge us $10 over golf now. Watch it.
It’s a little tight not like an 18 year old Accuracy is a must
My brother arrived from LAX and I came in from PHX for 1100 tee time to introduce him to the game.(“Some like it hot...”) I’m 61 and he’s 60 and now it’s a fight for life with him sucking wind on the 8th hole, and couldn’t continue.
I hit a stiff 7 iron and screamed, “BE THE ONE” so loudly at the par 3 9th. It wasn’t, but within 20ft. when I looked over at my little brother about to keel over in his cart. Course conditions were surprisingly well despite the blazing heat. I gave him water...he was really bad off.
I must take this opportunity to thank the staff, Eric, for helping with the hydration and attentiveness necessary for my brother to regain his cognitive process enough to know how horrible his score was for 8 holes.
Somewhat ok shape . Fairways are not cut , not much run on the ball . Some bald spots around the edges , greens in nice shape . GOOD VALUE for Golf Now rate $45 , but not worth rack rate of $65 . Tough price for Canadians .
Not bad for the price.
For the price it’s not that bad.
Greens in very good condition
Still can’t understand why the restaurant doesn’t open until 11. Just silly!
Good value for the money
Course is good value for what we paid, pace of play was very slow, over 4.5 hours to play. This was caused because the players we were behind were very slow. They were at least 2 holes behind the group in front of them. They did not have enough golf etiquette to let us or others golfers play through. We finally went around them on 14 without finishing the hole. We did not see another golfer until the 18th tee. They need a bit of marshalling to improve the pace of play.
Lots of water. Need signage
Really a challenge with lots of water. They could use more signage to direct you to holes. Fair bit of street driving and crossovers. Signs would help.
Slow slow greens
First time playing at Cathedral Canyon. I did like the lay out considering it is surrounded by homes. Lots of challenge with many water holes and sand surrounding all the holes. I thought it quite funny that the red and silver tees are in the same location with only a difference of 20 yards between the two tees? Anyway, the fairways were good, the sand traps need new sand as they are very hard packed. The greens were lush but so very very slow.
The starter said that they were fast, not sure what fast means to him?? The greens were very inconsistent slow to slower to slowest.
No beverage cart, however they do have water on several holes.
Look out for the water
I was warned by the starter about all the water on the course and boy were they right. I lucked out and only hit the water once, but my buddy wasn’t so lucky. I really liked the course and found it very challenging.
Not for me
Played this course a few years ago and didn’t like it, gave I a second chance because it was recommended as much improved . I still don’t like it , the layout does not suit my game if I missed the water hazard I was in a sand trap .
