Northstar California Resort
About Northstar California Resort
Although known as a ski resort first and foremost, golfers will love life in the summer on the mountain. Northstar's Robert Muir Graves course is a tale of two nines with the front in a meadow in Martis Valley and the back nine climbing into the trees. The ski village rocks with live concerts on weekends, multiple restaurants and a kids zone. No matter your age, there's plenty to discover: arts and crafts for the kids or yoga, mountain biking, hiking and spa for the adults.Facts

Course looking and playing top notch!
It seems as though the course has really improved in the last year or so. The fairways are tight and the rough is thick, so a little challenging, but greens are pristine! Overall a great experience and we will be back soon!
Impressive Course Recovery
I've been playing here since 2015 when I used to work at the resort, and I have never seen early season conditions quite like this at Northstar. The team has done a great job with summer preparations and the place is polished and the greens are great for mid-June in Truckee/Tahoe. Definitely suggest playing a round if you're in the area which will give you the High Sierra golf experience and won't break the bank like some of the local competitors charging $250+ for similar conditions/experience.
Amazing course!
Course condition is gorgeous and challenging. Ready for tournament play. Nice job Northstar!
Pleasantly surprised
We were staying in South Lake Tahoe and looking to play golf within a reasonable distance from where we were staying. It was a Thursday and there was a Hot Deal so we decided to give it a try. We were really hesitant to try this course because a previous reviewer said that the pro shop staff were snobbish to them because they had booked on Golf Now. I have to say that from the attendant that greeted us un the parking lot to the pro shop staff, everyone was very friendly and helpful. I never sensed any hesitation about the fact that I had reserved my tee time on Golf Now. The course was in good shape. The pace of play was great. We never waited on anyone nor had anyone pushing us. We did let a single play through once. We finished in about three hours. The course layout is a little tricky sometimes but there are directional arrows painted on the cart path (I wish all courses did this). It was a fun course and we will play there again sometime.
Should try.
Course layout is very good even though it’s short yardages. I really enjoyed playing this course. Only problem was a lot of tiny dandelion is glowing on the green. It’s tiny enough not much bothered but sometimes it’s your putting line so I have to take a leaf out.
Needs improvement
There were VERY few yardage markers throughout the course. And we couldn't find a gold tee box for hole #12.

Aubrey was da bomb!
Some good views but overall not worth the drive or money
Having played almost all courses in the Sacramento and Auburn area, we were excited to be spending the weekend in Tahoe with a tee time at Northstar. We have previously played Incline and South Lake Tahoe courses. The course was not crowded but the pro shop staff insulted using Golf Now to book the time and was overall pretentious and unwelcoming. The food and cart staff were nice. The course itself has strong potential but honestly wasn’t anything fabulous compared to many in Sac or Auburn especially for the $115 cost. Some of the bunkers were totally taken over by weeds. There is one beautiful hole with elevated box for those playing the Blues. We still enjoyed our round because we love golf but really disappointed and won’t be back.
Mountain Golf
We played in the afternoon and it was a wonderful time. The staff was very friendly. The Marshall even helped us look for a stray tee shot. The course and surrounding areas were beautiful
Very Good Course in Truckee Area
Very good course and even better value. Fairways and tee boxes are excellent. Greens are a good speed for a public course; however, some have some broadleaf weeds. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. My round took a little over 4.5 hours. Had to wait on every shot.
Great Course Even Better Value
Course is in very good condition. Greens are running at a good speed and true. Only issue are weeds in some of the greens. Pace of play was great until running into a foursome of beginner players that would not let us (twosome) play through. Not sure they understood what to do. No marshal on the course to help out. Biggest distraction we non-players sitting on the edge of hole 10 and a non-player walking on the cart path talking loudly on their phone. I have not had this issue before, but staff said it is a problem on the back nine.
Not very good
Greens bad, course conditions poor. I wouldn’t play again.
2022 is much better than the last couple of summers
Northstar has had some challenges with the Covid pandemic and then the back to back extremely bad winters. These winters saw snow, followed by a lot of rain and then extremely cold temps for the rest of the winter which caused a Loy of ice to form on the greens(which we all now will kill the greens).
2022 is so much better than the previous couple of years. Most of the greens now are very good. There are still some problems on a couple of greens but it looks like those greens are growing in. The greens are still a bit on the slow side but I am told the greens will be cut down again after the July 4th holiday.
The fairways are excellent. The staff are all great.
Probably the best course for the money in Tahoe! It would be nice if the restaurant would open again but right now the snack bar will do, sandwiches, brats, hot dogs and salads are good.
2 courses in 1
Front 9 is like playing in a flat field. Greens pretty rough. Fine for beginner golfers. Back 9 is where they do the maintenance and upkeep. Holes climb the mountain then scale back down for fun, narrow nice fairways to nicely kept greens. Starter old us these back 9 holes were the original golf holes ever built in Truckee.
