Expected Better
Legends Course is in less than mediocre condition. Greens are poorly maintained and restrooms are dirty. Staff was very congenial. I will not be back.

First Time at La Costa
I have always heard about playing La Costa and finally got the chance to play at what I would consider a fair rate. The pace of play was excellent for a Saturday. The staff was very friendly and outgoing. I played the Champions course, which I found to be a very nice layout. The only issue was with the condition of the course. I realize they had recently punched and were going through seasonal maintenance, but still you could see that prior conditions may have been some what rough. A lot of dry area's and the greens had plenty of divot markings. It is not necessarily the courses fault that golfers do not repair green divots (you are seeing that more often on many courses), but certain greens appears to be in rougher shape. I was really looking forward to playing this course and maybe next time (and I would play again), I hope the course conditions would be better for a destination resort.

Disappointed with condition
I played both this course and legends course and found the champions course was in poor shape in comparison. I also was a bit annoyed that workers were doing work on many holes and didn’t stop working as we were approaching the greens. This is a distraction and should not be done in midday. Course layout was good but greens had been aerated recently and were bumpy. Lots of dirt spots on the course and a few areas near greens looked like there were recently repaired and not flat. Sand very hard like a rock in bunkers and made it difficult to get out of. Staff was very accommodating and beverage cart and halfway house on the course was a plus. Course could be spectacular if it was in better shape. I would not play it again unless I was sure course conditions were improved.

Nice challenging course
I played here for the first time and enjoyed the course. Course was in very good shape and greens were very fast. There were some holes that require a lengthy carry for some and I would not recommend course for higher handicap golfers, but I had no issues. Overall found course was fair but challenging. It was nice that there were beverage carts on course as well as halfway house and bathrooms. Practice facility was adequate . Would play on this course again.

Had higher expectations for La Costa..
Greens were in poor condition!
Fariways were average at best, over water spots, crab grass fringes, and bunkers sand/dirt not consistent. For cost, I had higher expectations! I can think of 4 courses in North county in better condition for equal or better value. Was told La Costa Championship course will be getting extra TLC because it will host NCAA 2024 Championship (, May 24-29). I guess grounds crew will be spending even less time on Lengend's cours. Maybe Champions course is better value? Oh yeah, 1st and 2nd holes you tee off into the sunrise maybe course designer was from east coast..

Challenge course
First time play at La Costa. Course has nice design and some what challenge. Play at Sat afternoon, it is bit slow pace. Course had aeration for the whole course recently. Green is slow. Bunker need some improvement. Few bunkers has very little sand.

La Costa Legends
Staff was very friendly & helpful. The greens were pretty bumpy & sand traps were too compacted. Tee boxes and fairways were okay, but not great. Very pretty course but the recent aeration affected the quality of play.

The Better Layout of the Two
Champions is the preferred course layout over Legends, IMO. Fairways were great, the greens were rolling pretty smooth. You don't feel the repetitiveness of the Legends holes.

So much potential
This course could be great, but it's just not. Terrible greens and tee boxes look like sand traps. I really wanted to like it, but it needs a lot of attention.
