Another set of tees
Old Greenwood is a beautiful track. The Barracuda tournament had just been held there the previous week so the course was in great shape. However, the rough was long and thick which created a significant penalty if you found yourself there. I think for this high end layout the bunkers could’ve had more and better sand. The greens are well protected with many strategically placed bunkers, some of which are quite deep, and the sand or rather the mix of sand and dirt made them especially unappealing. My friend and I have played there several times and next to Edgewood this is my favorite Tahoe course, so this complaint is a minor irritant, and in truth I suck in bunkers.
There is one thing that would represent a vast improvement in playability for players like myself. I’m 72, with the usual loss of power and distance that goes with that, and the tee options available range from forward tees of about 5400 yards and a rating of 66.1 and a slope of 122 with the next option being 6457 yards with a rating of 70.7 and a slope of 132. There used to be a combo of those two but combo options were no longer on the scorecard. I didn’t want to play a 7500 yard course at 5400 yards so have always played the 6457 yard option. Truthfully that makes for a very difficult outing for this 18 handicapper. A set of tees around 6000 to 6100 yards would make a big difference in the fun factor, and that’s really why I’m out there.
Tough slog
Very difficult course for short hitters from the white tees. Par 5s we’re brutal. Enormous number of sand bunkers so be forewarned. As a senior golfer, I will not be returning..
First time
Beautiful course and facilities. Course was in good shape though some bunkers had wet and hard spots. Pace of play was incredibly slow. 4.5 hours through 17 - we skipped 18 to end the day a bit sooner.
helpful staff
The course was as good as expected. What was exceptional was the Club Pro who was able to help us recover from our scheduling mistake.
Great course!
Course conditions were great. Challenging but fair course layout. Highly recommend.
Fantastic day and marvelous course. Thank you. The Pace of play was very slow on every hole
Layout and conditions
First time playing Old Greenwood did not disappoint! Awesome and fun course layout, fairways were wide enough but definitely tree lined on a lot of holes. The tee box and fairway conditions were pristine, the greens were rather slow but they did mention they were preparing them for the upcoming Barracuda Championship in July 2022 so they were growing them out a little which made them very slow in the morning with some dew but got to decent by mid morning. Overall would highly recommend this course for the great conditions and amazing mountain views!
Awesome track
For my first time playing old greenwood, I was not let down. The course was beautiful, the scenery was beautiful and the vibe from the staff was amazing. It’s a track that challenges your shot making and getting up and down for par are like birdies.
Great track
Course just opened for the season, excellent condition. Greens perfect. Only thing to nitpick was pace of play. Will definitely e back.
Great course
The course was in excellent condition. The greens were quite difficult, fast and tricky but a delight to play.
Great course slow play
Marshall never even attempted to get the backlog moving. Absolutely crawling pace and even though we saw the Marshall several times he just sort of shrugged when asked about what was being done to speed the pace of play up. Round would have taken 6 hours had we just not played the front side again instead of the completely backed up back 9. The course is great but I’d rather play a crappy muni course if I have to pay like 200 dollars for a round and the Marshall won’t even attempt try to keep the pace of play up.
