The staff is excellent, the fellow golfers however...
I'll start with the important stuff...
There is no beverage service or food before 10:30am. Apparently this isn't something Copper is looking to accommodate. I have spoken with the staff plenty of times to know its not the golf operation, but Copper F&B.
This is more something I have noticed the few times I have played at Copper Creek...
Guests, especially those who purchase "Hot Deals" are exceptionally mean and disrespectful to the staff. You bought a discounted round for a SPECIFIC time. You don't get to go early because you see an open tee box. Want to play earlier? PAY FOR IT.
There are a few driveable par 4's (or so people think) that slow play down around 9 and 14. Sit there for a few minutes and all you hear is complaints about pace of play. Even with this, especially on a busy Saturday morning, I have yet to play a round in over 4 hours and 20 minutes. The twenty something guys in front of me (two groups?) this past weekend were the most outrageous I've seen ever. They also took their problems into the golf shop thinking they should be compensated for leaving a golf course, 5 holes in, after only an hour post frost delay.
Yes, I am partial to Copper as its close to home and affordable, but this isn't the only place I see and here this. Since when did golf stop being a gentleman's sport and start being a sport for the entitled and demanding?
The course did not have a driving range (only hitting nets), the putting green was in such terrible shape it was unusable, and the course layout was terrible.. I also thought the staff was not very accommodating:. I had made the teetime online using a “Golfnow “hot deal” and even though the course was wide open as many people had cancelled due to weather they would not let us tee off early.. I would never play the course again.!
Copper Golf
Excellent course, great play. Staff was very friendly
Great course
My go to favorite golf course in Des Moines IA. I always bring my out of town guests here. It's always great! Represents Iowa very well!
Nice views, good greens
Had an excellent time. Was paired with three nice gents and all went smoothly.
Loved it!
Had a great time. Paired with two locals to give me tips! Happy to par the highest hole in North America! Lm
Copper Golf
We really enjoy playing at Copper. The course is fun , the staff is wonderful and the food is great!
Short, beautiful setting, nice greens!
A bit pricey, but a gorgeous setting and very fun layout. Short course, “murderable!”
A challenging short course
Elevation is an issue...
The course is at 10k feet. Course conditions reflect this. Keep in mind the elevation at the effects it can have on your body and mind. I always felt out of breath and lacking in energy. This course works its way around the Copper ski area. Its very hilly with lots of blind shots. Some fairly funky holes. Glad we played it but would not return.
