About Callaway Resort & Gardens
Callaway Resort & Gardens is a 2,500-acre retreat in Pine Mountain, Georgia, about an hour's drive from Atlanta. The property was founded in 1952 and today features 36 holes of golf and many more natural and outdoor activities on the grounds to explore. The resort is home to the Lake View and Mountain View 18-hole golf courses, both wind and tumble through the rugged and forested terrain. The Callaway Resort & Gardens is set on Robin Lake, which has a beach area, while there is a robust events calendar bringing arts and entertainment to the property. In addition to golf, there are three pools onsite, workshops, hiking, tennis and a spa. The Treetop Adventure is a series of ziplines and bridges in the trees, and there is also a large butterfly center and birds of prey exhibit. For restaurants, there is a multitude of dining areas ranging from fine to casual, beach and poolside fare. Accommodations range from rooms and suites in The Lodge and Spa; more relaxed cottages with full kitchens and fireplaces; large and upscale villas; and the more affordable Mountain Creek Inn.Facts

Sandy
Would have been helpful to know the entire course had been sanded, especially the greens and tee boxes. Balls bounced on the green instead of rolling - aerated recently as well. Bunkers are not groomed.
If had known, would not have selected this location.
Mountain course is opposite of electronic tracking.
Horrid conditions
I've not played Callaway gardens in several months. I had heard they hired a new greenskeeper that was supposed to be sprucing things up so I was hopeful that conditions would have improved since my last time out. This was not the case...
The grass on the greens is more scarce than ever with several having at least 50% or more sand content for coverage.
I know that it is still early spring and the Bermuda is just starting to come out of dormancy but a lot of the tee boxes are scarce as well.
There is a huge hole dug to the right hand side of the 15th green that has no protective barrier around it whatsoever. If you're not careful nor knew it was there you could fall in and break a leg or worse your neck.
I played on a hot deal for $45 but the course is not even worth half that. It is definitely not catered to the locals wanting to find a course to frequent. I'm sure that the main revenue stream is from resort guests and visitors from out of state.
I'm typically not the type to be a keyboard warrior but this is beyond ridiculous. How this golf course went from a tour destination in the '90s and early 2000s to what it is now is above and beyond me??????
Seriously for these green fees ?
Greens are almost solid poanna, bunkers may as well be concrete.. course not even on par with a lot municipalities courses I have played.. 5 hr round of golf as well with extremely slow play and stacked team times with no starter or Marshall on course.. this is a $35-40 with cart fee course if that.. don’t think you’re coming here for “resort” golf.. go to Auburn to RTJ instead.. this course is far past its prime , hard to believe it was once a tour destination in the 90’s..
Mountain View
Fun course. Definitely challenging. Some greens were very small area. Good condition. Definitely worth the money. Would go definitely play again.
Course cost
The charge is too much for the condition of the upkeep of the course. T
My review is about Callaway Garden
I bought the Lake View, but I was sent to play the Mountain View due to the wet conditions. Why didn't they tell me the Lake View was closed? I could have cancelled my reservation and played somewhere else. I drove one hour 15 minutes one way and I wasted my time and money. The club house attendant was rude and very unfriendly.
reservation issue
On Wednesday 2/21/24 I made what i thought was a reservation to play on Sunday 2/25/24. I finalized the purchase and printed out the receipt. I had been searching the site for a tee time on Sunday. I found a suitable time and was ready to purchase when i noticed a much cheaper price for the same course. i was naturally excited and accepted this price. Never gave it a second thought or checked the receipt to verify . My son who is my playing partner called me on Thursday 2/22/24 to cancel. I went to the site to cancel and cannot to his day find anyway to cancel a reservation. To make matters worse, I found out that my reserved golf date was for Thursday 2/22/24 not Sunday 2/25/24. according to the rules, there was no way to cancel this reservation that I thought was for Sunday 2/25/24. Writing this on Saturday 03/02/24. Still unable to find any directions to cancel a reservation. I will never use this service again.
Good day!
THe course was in good shape. The traps are excellent. Range balls are too high.
Greens need work
The course is nice and has a resort feel to it. the fairways are pretty wide and greens are big enough but need work on the dead areas of which there are a lot.
Improving
I lived in this area several years ago. This was once a premier course, but conditions had changed and gone down over the years since the Buick Southern Open was held here. Glad to see the staff is putting effort into making it the venue it once was. Staff was amazing. I can't wait to go back when the grass has come in. We could see the efforts made on the course.
Callaway Mountain Course
Friendly staff. Played after afew days of heavy rain so course conditions were okay at best, but not their fault. The greens were not in very good shape. Big patches of sand on afew and hadn’t been mowed in afew days. Bunkers were surprisingly nice and didn’t have much grit within the sand. Tee boxes weren’t the worst I’ve seen but definitely aren’t their top priority. There is little to no signage for navigating around the course and by the clubhouse. And the signs that are there, aren’t correct. I’d play there again, but never off of a H0T Deal.
Callaway Lake Course
Staff was friendly and very informative. The course was in good shape but the greens were on the slow side. A lot of the green were fronted by traps needing a high shot to clear the traps and stop fast. Pace of play was great and we finished the course in three hours. Of course we were a twosome with no one in front of us. Overall a very good course.
Good course shady staff
I played here the Saturday after Thanksgiving with my granddaughter and 2 other family members. Had a great day but in my haste to get my granddaughter home for her birthday party I left a shark quarter zip in our cart. Upon arriving home and realizing what I had done I called back to the course. The girl who answered in the pro shop verified with the bag drop guys that they had my jacket. She said they would bring it to the pro shop so I could get it next time I play. When I checked in this past Saturday nobody knew anything about it. Obviously my fault but would hope for better results from a course of this level. Disappointing to say the least.
