Good shape
Course is in better than expected shape for this time of year. As expected, greens are not as fast as they usually are but still quite healthy. Fairways are winter grass so you should give yourself and you mates the grace of a footwedge.
Greens were almost unplayable
I’ve played here many many times, usually a decent experience, greens were like putting on concrete and very inconsistent, at first I blamed it on myself but as I hit 2-3 putts from the same spot on several holes it was clear that it was me, pace of play was slow, no Marshall, no bev girl on a Sunday, aerated greens but still payed regular price. I will go elsewhere to play from now on.
It was ok
Went into this round with low expectations (friend said it was bad). Left with a better experience then I expected. Nice staff, layout was intriguing (hole 2 was 252 yards par 4..I think), and greens ran really well. Pace of play wasn’t the greatest. I was glad I only played 9 and not 18, probably would’ve been a long round. Carts had GPS which super surprising consider the amount it cost to play. Overall, it was an ok round.
Late Afternoon Tee Time = Limited Food Options
Overall experience was average. Pace of play was good even with it being cart path only for the whole course that day. Greens, fairways, and tee boxes were well maintained. Seemed like there were hundreds of range balls near/on the fairway of hole #1.
With a 3:30 pm tee time it would have been nice to have been told that there would be no hot food available at the turn. We did made the turn at 5:30, which isn’t an unreasonable time for June to keep the grill going especially on a busy Saturday. Another big detractor is that there was no beverage/snack service on the course.
Honestly, just needs a little love
So I’ve played this course a couple times, once in the winter and recently in the summer. I think they just need to turn the sprinklers on. Right now, fairways aren’t quite green, there are plenty of dead spots, and the greens are firm and dry. The tee boxes were so dry they should’ve provided a hammer in the clubhouse so you can put a tee in the ground. Pace of play is alright, just depends on who you get paired with.
My 5 Year Old Golfer
I have played this course several times and have had a good experience each time with the course conditions, pace of play, other golfers, and staff has always been nice. I am specifically writing this review to give a huge praise to the staff who made not only my experience exceptional but my 5 year old son who loves golf and got to play for just the second time.
It was a busy day as expected with several foursomes in front of our group of 4 plus my son. I let my son hit his ball at each tee then would pick up his ball and drop with mine to keep our pace moving along As we got to the 6th hole one of the employees drove up to let us know the group behind us had called to complain that my son was causing us to play slow and if we could speed up the pace and not have him hit every shot. I understood the frustration and told my group I would hit my shot and drive up with my son to play ready ball and we did that the rest of the round, which was only 9 holes.
As we pulled up to the clubhouse, unloaded our cart and started walking to the car the starter called me over and asked if he could speak with me. I initially thought he was going to reprimand me, but to my surprise he thanked me for coming and for bringing my son, he personally apologized for having someone complain, and he said “you are welcome to bring your son to play here anytime you want”.
After that I brought my son inside to tell the pro shop thank you and let them know we had a great time and they also were very apologetic and made my son feel very welcomed, and even gave him a Pro-V1 as a souvenir.
This experience will stick with me forever and I will be bringing my son back many more times.
Greens great, even in winter
City is not a long course but I find it challenging. There are a lot of hills, water hazards, rtght fairways, dog legs, on average 2-3 bunkers/hole, and a ton of trees! Despite winter, greens are in great shape. Be warned, the Bermuda grass is dormant so even fairways render super tight lies. I have played recently after a lot of rain and will chunk some chip shots due to mud and lack of grass. That said, by mid-March/April, it will be back to being a great public course!
