Lake Richard B. Russell State Park is located east of Atlanta and northwest of Augusta in Elberton near the state border of South Carolina near the Savannah River. It is home to Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course, one of the best value courses in the southeast and a previous recipient of Golf Advisors' Golfers' Choice Top 50 lists. The state park is located on a 26,650-acre lake and home to fishing and boating. There are 20, two-bedroom cottages within the park to rent, as well as RV and campsites. In addition to the 18-hole golf course on the lake, there is disc golf, fishing, bike rental, kayak and canoe rental. The golf clubhouse has a cafe and golf shop and has a banquet room for larger groups.Facts

Wow - what a course
Been playing around Atlanta region and exploring all the courses..
This is one of the more stunning courses
Arrowhead is about an hour from Athens
Still that makes it an incredible value.
Conditions for early March were excellent
Greens were slow but hard to make a pitch mark and nice to see some green on the fairways
Layout is wonderful - especially back nine
Tees are generally in good conditions
We played Lake Lanier and this is comparable layout..
It is a state park golf course but the cost is wonderful value for the quality
Going back this week

Great time! Course was in great shape. Will definitely be back in the spring.
Great layout and value for the money
One of my personal favorites. It’s a drive to get to, but it’s worth it.
Good course great price
Nice course in good shape a little wet in spots. Greens in good shape very consistent. Pace was good got backed up a bit on last 3. Staff was friendly. I will definitely play again.

A little bit out in the sticks but a very nice course in terms of the layout of the holes and the condition of the tee boxes, fairways and greens.

Front side bunkers are still closed but course was in great shape for the end of December.
Frustrating day
SLOW play due to a group of 5 players more interested in drinking beer and socializing than playing golf. Husband and wife in front of us and behind the fivesome said one guy just walks off the tee box and urinates in view of them on the previous green. Beer cans left all over the course. Staff came out on the back 9 to try and speed up play, but nothing changed. I blame Course Staff for allowing a fivesome to play on a Saturday, especially on a holiday weekend. Law enforcement was in the parking lot as I was leaving. Hopefully they were waiting for the drunks to drive and then pulled them over and arrested them. Do better Arrowhead Pointe/ Georgia State Parks!
Tips
The tips out here are a challenge especially if you do not drive it 280 which most times I do not. But it's fun. Greens were quick. Back side is beautiful! Played here lots and will play lots more. The gentleman working the front is so nice! Could not ask for a better golf getaway. And I do mean getaway. This is golf and nature. No outside noise!
