Could have been a much better experience.
We had a threesome at 806. When we walked out to the carts only one had GPS. I went in to ask for another cart and was told only one GPS cart per foresome. When we arrived at the first tee the starter informed us that we were being joined with a single, which should have been fine. The problem was he was not by himself. Another man was riding with him and he was a chatterbox and appeared clueless to proper etiquette. The course itself was quite dried out and dead in several fairways. The greens had recently been aerated and too much sand had been applied. This was the second time I had played here. The first time was a weekday round and great. This last round felt like we were inconviencing the staff. If, and it a big if, I return I will find out course conditions. As it stands now, there are better courses with a better price in the area.
Beautiful Course - Could be very nice
I have played this course a few times. It actually has improved from the last time I played it over a year ago. They are watering it now which is the main improvement. The greens had just been plugged and sanded so they were not true. The tee beds were the worst part. A couple had been completely sprayed with herbicide and one was so wet that if you weren't careful, your shoes would stick in the mud. As I played this round with my wife, I noted that the women's tee beds were an afterthought. They were not mowed and were not level at all. Finally, the pace of play was very slow which may have been due to a group outing playing in front of us.
In the end, I always enjoy a round of golf and this course can be fun. With Timbergate and Otter Creek nearby, Salt Creek needs to take a little more care in order to compete.
needs some work
many fairways in poor shape the cart paths are very bad
Good course for beginners and average Joes
The front 9 is on completely flat land surrounding Salt Creek, which meanders throughout. Thus water is in play on most holes of the front 9 with a couple of holes crossing the creek twice. Greens are easy and not complicated. All-in-all a nice quiet course. The back 9 goes up into the famous hills of Brown County. There are several forced carries over ravines and the spectacular 15th hole where you tee off on top of a hill down about 75 feet to the fairway in the flat area near the creek. The back 9 is tougher and much more interesting. Course is somewhat in rough shape, but still playable. I'd summarize by saying that the front 9 is a good place for families and beginners, but the back nine requires more than minimum golfing skills.
This course is scenic.
Decent course for the money, scenic but golf cart paths are pretty rough.
Decent course for south central indiana
A pretty decent course for south central Indiana. Bent grass fairways at bit beat up in some places tho we saw plenty of staff working on course conditions. A nice mix of easier and more difficult holes. Lots of trees, water and some well positioned traps. Elevated tee boxes for men. They added a new set of forward tees making it more women friendly but the distances were not on our card. GPS in cart (included) as a plus. Be sure to book on line or be prepared to over pay!!
Good for price
The course was in pretty good shape. Considering the price and complimentary bucket of range balls, it's a reasonable deal.
Scenic course, average condition
A nice layout with some interesting & fun holes but the overall condition was average. Putting greens were a little slow but in good condition, no problems there, but generally the fairways weren't quite to the same level. If I lived in the area of this course then I'd play it 2-3 times/year and enjoy it but I'm 1.5 hour drive away so for me I think there are better values to be had closer to home or similar drives for much better conditioned golf courses at similar price.
cart paths need work
course was a good price for the money, wouldnt want to pay any more than we did, the cart paths need some work
Great course, just don't play when it's wet.
We had a significant amount of rain, the course was very wet. Other than that, the course was in great shape. It's been a long time since I've played here, could see many improvements.
Highly recommend!
Wonderful Place to play Golf!
Nice course! Nice carts. Wonderful customer service!
Great Condition, Fun Challenge
The staff was excellent - very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Pleasantly surprised that the carts had GPS too!!! Perfect Fathers Day experience for all 3 generations - me, my old man and my grandpa. Overall, I can't wait to play this course again!!!
Beautiful layout / setting
This course lies next to a beautiful Indiana state park. Course was in very good condition and the staff was friendly, helpful
Course in Bad shape
Cart Paths were very rough shape and the over course maintenance was sub par. Street sand is used for bunkers.
rough ride, on cart paths full of holes and bumps from tree roots
Cart paths were in terrible shape, and in some areas going. Most of the course is in and along creek bottoms, you need to go when there has not been any rain for a couple of weeks, when I was there, there was water standing deep in the cart paths and fairways. Not A Good Day!
