Beautiful course, got a great deal! Only glitch was one temporary green.
Great course
Better have your A game on. The rough made this course a handfull. Fairways were in excellent shape along with the greens. Rough was a full swing to just get to the ball. Had a great day.
Course condition
The course is in good condition but some tee boxes are under renovation, thus they moved to temporary tee boxes.
Greens
Greens were dry and sandy. Two greens were completely lost, burnt.
Good Course
I play this course at least once a week due to the proximity to my house and how empty it is in the evening. Overall, the course is in great shape. They seem to be having some struggles with the heat this summer, though. A few of the tee boxes were just dirt and/or dead grass and some of the greens have pretty big patches on them. One of them was completely brown. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because I think the course is a bit overpriced for the condition and they don’t have any real food. However, I do really appreciate their ice and water stations on course.
Dwayne’s Experience at Contraband
The course is in pristine condition and the staff extremely friendly and very professional. I would highly recommend this facility and course to anyone interested in having a great golf outing.
Not a fan
If your ball isn’t in the middle of the fairway you’ll lose it two feet in front of you. I waited around countless times watching groups in front, and behind me walking around searching for their ball in this odd fluffy grass that simply devours balls the second they land. To add to it, tee times were jammed in so poorly I was unable to play at a pace anywhere near reasonable. Will not be recommending, or going back.
Course itself is nice. No staff on course. No cups at water stations. No food on course or clubhouse. No amenities on course. Used to have towels and fruit on course. Not the same.
Not worth the price.
The course is nice overall, but, the conditions of the greens are not worth what they charge for a round. They were punched and had inconsistent grass and terrible patches on most of the greens, not enjoyable to putt on. No amenities outside of what the girl had on the beverage cart. Koasati Pines is 30min north and blows this place out of the water. The Mallard nearby is in better shape at a fraction of the price as well.
The course layout was cool, but the condition of the greens was not consistent with that of a $105 - $115 course. Many greens had grass patches and inconsistent grass. Still a course but should be charging less than $115 if greens are in that condition.
Great Fazio Design
Course is definitely a good design and the staff was very nice. However, the greens are substandard at best for a high end casinos golf course! Looks like the greens keeper punched the greens with too large of a die resulting in extremely slow bumpy greens. Maybe they don’t have a roller for the greens or just don’t care. The greens also had very poor quality grass, some patches were of different varieties resulting in inconsistent speed or true brakes…worse than small town Muni golf!! The clubhouse is nice but there’s no restaurant, food (not even convenience store cold sandwiches) or bar to enjoy before or after a round. I’m not sure why they have such a nice large deck around the clubhouse since they have no amenities? The staff sent us back to the casino for food causing us to waste an extra 30 minutes out of our day, totally unacceptable! They also had the driving range closed on a busy summer Friday, again totally unacceptable for such an expensive course! Maybe it was to hot and/or to much trouble to collect the range balls!
My Lake Charles favorite
I always make sure I play Laberge when we stay at the Golden Nugget . It is a Great getaway from gambling to get outdoors . The fairways and bunkers are in great shape . The greens have just been punched but still ran remarkably well. Friendly staff always is a nice way to start my round . Ice and water at the restrooms on the course are great with the summer heat . My one recommendation to the course is to make sure the containers are filled so that players can repair their divots .
