Great time golfing
Regular user
As the course was just opening from a tough winter everything was good considering
Rocky Gap golf course
Staff were great. Very friendly and helpful. Course is challenging but very scenic and was in great condition.
Sad
Very interesting and fun Nicklaus layout. Conditions are deplorable. Tees haven’t been moved in weeks, pins not changed in weeks, fairways not mowed, bunkers inconsistent. It is sad as I recall this course when freshly opened was pristine. Guess the casino draws enough business the golf course doesn’t matter?
Great Course...
Loved the course, but the cart girls are terrible. It was 11am and they had no food. Saw them twice the whole day and there was a girl for each 9. Pathetic!!
11/25/2020
Me and four friends played Rock Gap golf course on Wednesday 11/25/2020 and had a great time. The course was actually in great shape for the time of the year. The only negative is the greens were a bit slow and rough! We will definitely play it again soon!
Ammenities
People were very nice upon arriving tournament was being held and was very crowded on other 9. The driving range was closed which was odd the cart girl wasn’t out there until noon which was odd and the bar wasn’t open until noon which was odd
Nice layout
The layout is pretty open. Greens were in great shape and rolled true. Fairways were excellent and rough around greens very manageable. They have nice sand traps but do to recent rain were a little rough. The staff was friendly and offered advice and suggestions for us first time players. Golf carts have built in GPS that were pretty accurate. We will definitely go back.
Beautiful Layout- Great Fall golf destination
This course, only 2 hours from Pittsburgh is a really nice layout. The course was very well maintained, with lots of elevation changes and a fair layout. Pace of play was really poor at 5 hours midday on a Friday, but there wasn't anyone marshalling groups on the course.
Staff is very friendly. Only regret is that none of the holes play along the lake or even have views of it. Not sure why they was done, but that would have made this an unforgettable layout.
Disappointed on a Beautiful Saturday
The layout will always be impeccable, but the details surrounding it must improve for our group to return. We booked a $50 afternoon tee time due to the rate of $82 in the morning being a little steep...and I can’t fathom how those paying players in the AM felt after playing such sub-par conditions.
The greens were comparable to a municipal course, hairy and slow. If I’m paying those rates, smooth and freshly cut greens are a must! The tee boxes had little to be desired, although this isn’t a huge deal for me. The cherry on top was after waiting 5–15 minutes on every hole (with a 4 some), the ranger told us to speed up...ON HOLE 17!! The ranger needed to be about 4 groups ahead, 4 hours ago!
This landscape will go to waste if Rocky Gap doesn’t shape up! I’ll be questioning whether to book this at our next semi-annual trip.
Saturday 36 With The Guys
Needed a place to meet between DC and Pittsburgh for 36 holes with some friends, and Rocky Gap filled the need. It did not disappoint. The course and mountain m/lake backdrop were picturesque.
Some excessive wear on a few tee boxes, but otherwise in great shape. Fairway grass was a little longer than I’m used to, but chalked it up to seeking resiliency through the summer heat. Some bunkers had standing water and wet fairways, but acceptable given lots of recent rain.
Facilities were great, especially the wide grass range, multiple practice greens, and every cart path as smooth and pristine as could be.
Not worth it
The course looks beautiful, but it really ends there. Greens might have been a four or worse on the stemp meter. Slowest I've played in my life.. Tee boxes high, and if not high they were mainly sand with no grass. Rough was us open rough. This was a holiday weekend so maybe they thought they would get allot of play with people not repairing ball marks and such.
