Quite a Challenge
This course is T-O-U-G-H !!! In very nice shape. If you think your a big hitter, play from the Gold on this course!! OMG Some extremely challenging holes with no let-up. Tremendous piece of property that could be amazing with some TLC. The practice range needs lots of attention. Told us the "picker is broken", so we had to drive out on the range and pick up our own practice balls......those balls have been out there a long, long time. No beverage cart was a bummer - on a perfect day. We were basically by ourselves on the course though. Check out the greens before you hit - lots of buried elephants give HUGE undulations.
Fantastic course close to the dunes.
While camping with friends, some of us broke off and decided to play 18 holes. We arrived early, and walked right on the course. The holes were well designed, and took advantage of all the great rolling hills in the area. We enjoyed the game quite a bit.
Great Course - Great Condition
Earlier in the summer a friend had mentioned that the course was getting a little rough around the edges.
There was no evidence of that yesterday.
The entire course was lush and green. The fairways and greens were in beautiful condition. I've always loved the way they double cut some of the area providing that "Resort Course" appearance. If you haven't played here, every whole is unique, you check it out.
Really is a great view
Wife and I played and both enjoyed the course. Challenging but fair for typical golfer. Lots of interesting aspects to layout like elevations. Would have even higher rating for value but fairways a little patchy. Greens true, quick and a challenge to read.
good course
Very good and a challenge; I would play again sometime
Excellent greens
Fastest greens I have played on this year. Scenic course with many challenging holes.
July at Grand View
The course was in excellent condition. Far better than what I am used to seeing with East Coast public courses. With the exception of green number 11 the greens are perfect. My only complaint regarding the greens is the number of ball marks that were left unrepaired. I must have fixed 50 yesterday . The other suggestion I would make is offering out of town players, like me, some course notes so we are more aware of blind trouble areas. It's not good when what appears to be a perfect shot is negated because of a drastically sloping fairway sending the ball into dense rough.
I went to a golf course and a rave broke out
I picked the wrong weekend - or right one, depending upon your point of view - to play the Thoroughbred for the first time. I played the first day of the Electronic Forest Festival, a Woodstock-like music festival that takes over the small town of Rothbury and its surrounding fields. My GPS took me right through the festival, so I had to sweet talk my way through numerous roadblocks to get to the course. The hassle was worth it. I came away really impressed with the golf experience of the Thoroughbred. There are tons of places to lose balls, notably the very poorly conceived second hole, a long par 4 around a wetland. There are no flat lies in that fairway, leaving high-handicaps no choice but to layup instead of taking on the carry over the hazard to reach the green. Beyond that design snafu, golfers will love the scenery and backwoods setting of the course. The new owner of Double JJ Resort is working hard to bring course conditions up to the standards it used to offer. I'd take the Thoroughbred for a ride again, no doubt.
Very nice course!
Excellent condition! Stay out of trouble and you will score well!
A gem of a course that gets bettef with age!
This course was great when it was brand new, and has aged very well. it is scenic and extremely well laid out; a joy to play. Plus feature, it is in Oceana County, one of West Michigan's lovliest!
Good fall value
Good layout. Always best conditions in the fall. Excellent greens. Could speed up the fairways. Number 8 is best short par three in the area..
we had fun despite cold wet conditions.
Had course to ourselves. No one else was that crazy to play. For this late in the season the course was in good shape.
Great course
First time out, and it may well become our new favorite in the area.
JJ Ranch
Great golf course, have played before many times. Was a little disappointed upon arrival was informed the front nine was closed due to aeration process. Other than that it was great.
Great condition. Nice track.
A fun course. Challenging, but fair. A good value and fun to play.
Enjoyable
The course was not crowded so no problem with pace of play finished in a little over 2 hours. Conditions very good.
Great course for the money!
Great course in great condition. I highly reccommend this course! Well worth the drive.
Raw Beauty
Lovely piece of real estate. Greens in good condition, but you are beginning to see weeds encroaching in the bunkers. Staff was very friendly and the pace of play moved pretty quickly for a Sunday afternoon. I definitely will play again with GolfNow discount but would not pay the full price for the course.
Well worth the money
I hadn't played this course in 15 years and had forgotten what a nice track it is. It is evident that there are shortcuts being taken on the course up keep (i.e. the fairways are mown on the long side), but they're not charging $90.00 anymore either. I would say its probably one of the best $40-50.00 courses one could play...
Not worth the money.
This course is a very challenging course and the course has a great layout. But the upkeep and care for the course is definitely not what it should be. I played this course about 10 years ago and it was clean, green, and was known as one of the premier courses in west Michigan. But since then it is evident that the attention to detail for the maintainence of this course has drastically decreased.
