Loon Golf Resort
About Loon Golf Resort
The Loon Golf Resort has grown to include a second location in Gaylord: The Ridge, formerly the Marsh Ridge Golf Resort. The Loon offers a townhome village with four-bedroom/four-bathroom units with full kitchens just steps from the clubhouse restaurant and the course. The Ridge is more versatile with hotel-style rooms, suites and free-standing condos, all within walking distance to the Summit Grill. Lodges named Copenhagen (11 rooms, one apartment), Summit (20 rooms) and Bergen (12 rooms) all feature a large common/recreation area. The Scandinavian Cabin sleeps 12 with six bedrooms, a fireplace, full kitchen and living area. Its 6,231-yard course is short but beautiful. The 6,418-yard Lakes course sports four holes on Lake Michaywe roughly four miles from both resort properties.Facts

Beautiful Gaylord course
This course has it all, links-like holes, holes with great views and elevation changes and holes wrapped around lakes. So much fun. Pretty good condition considering the lack of rain - it was still very green throughout. My favorite of the 3 Loon resort courses.
loon
Not a bad track. Plenty of huge divots on fairways. I know not all couse fault. No water in ball washers, good thing I watered towel. Still better than the other 2.
Fun Test
Fun test of golf. Beautiful clubhouse, and a fun layout. Good mix of challenging holes and ones that aren't too difficult. Great conditions, this place is very well taken care of. Clubhouse staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered lunch on the patio and everything came out delicious. Server was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend to someone thinking about coming. Great addition to the Golf Mecca.
Must Play in Gaylord
This course is one of the nicer ones in Gaylord. Staff is very friendly. When I got checked in I would have behind a bunch of 4 somes. The cart guy suggested going off the back as no one was out yet. I got around the back quickly, and by the time I got to 1 there was no wait. Course is a great layout, with a good mix of challenging and fun holes. The front has some crazy holes that test your accuracy, but the back opens up and is a lot of fun to play. I would play again in a heartbeat.
Great course with a great golfing experience for our entire group of 20. We have visited this resort 5 times and the course is always in great condition and memorable.
Thank you again.
Part of a great weekend
Great course with a beautidul layout. Course needs some TLC and will be the best course of the three options at the loon if completed.
Definitely recommend the entire Loon Resort and this course to anyone considering a stay and play package in the gaylord area. Great value and hospitality every visit.
Cool layout
A lot to love about this course. Must play in the area.
Best value around
I almost don’t want to write a great review because I’m afraid too many people will read it and start packing the course! But this place deserves it. They’re doing it right at the Lakes.
This is my current favorite place in the Gaylord “golf Mecca.” First off, the staff is just wonderful. I always have a nice chat with the guy in the clubhouse who always seems like he’s genuinely interested in you having a great time.
The course has really improved over the last decade or so. It’s changed hands a few times and hardly resembles the so/so Lakes course from the Otsego club days. That being said, conditions are always great these days. Greens are receptive but not overly soft and always roll true. Fairways are lush and green. Grounds crew really takes care of it.
The layout is the real star here. The course has such a diverse array of holes with no two holes alike. There’s right, tree lined holes like #1 (IMO the hardest hole on the course!) and a few wide holes where the driver begs to be smashed. The view from the 2nd par 5 on the front 9 is my favorite spot in Gaylord. Amazing view and great hole. I could go on for pages telling tales of birdies and triple bogeys from this great course. It really has a little of everything.
The price midweek feels like you are getting away with something. Last year my wife and I paid $27 to play and I almost felt bad.
If this course had a range it would be perfect but it’s still worth 5 stars from me. You won’t be disappointed with this hidden gem in Gaylord. I play it a few times every year and it seems to just get better.
Not your typical Northern Michigan Course
This course layout is unique to Northern Michigan as it has no elevation changes more typical you would see with Treetops or Otsego. But still great layout and can be hard. There have been some improvements, most noticeable was the 9th hole since we last played. The tree and junk that covered up pretty good part of the hole was trimmed back and down. This made this hole much more playable. Greens ran great the only one that was in below average condition was number 13 looks like it had some mold issues attempting to fix. The only other issue if I recall was the 7th hole. Missed the hole to the left and chipped on the green (typically would have stayed on the green) and as it picked up speed rolled off the green and then rolled down to the water. Not sure what can be done about the right side of the green as it is grass bare but shouldn't run off into place out of play for ball that hits the middle of the green for average non professional player. I guess just don't miss left but don't over compensate and miss right either.
Tale of two nines
This the first time I played The Lakes course since the early 2000's, which at one time was closed for 3 years as I recall. The time I played it what is the 14 th hole was the 1st. The change also resulted in a new club house. The one issue is their is no driving range and the practice putting green is very small with cups that hadn't been moved (but likely due to the smallish nature). Now the tale of two 9 nines. We elected to play from the Blues. The back nine this was fine. The front 9 mistake. This is true for the 4th hole which is all up hill and blind shot to the fair way if you hit it well. Otherwise it's three shot par 5 at that point. The only other hole that was somewhat sketchy was #9 which could be due to the amount of rain. From about 140 yards out no carts and the group was very soft. Overall still nice layout. Just pick your tee wisely and perhaps consider moving up for the front side or at least #4.
Thumbs up for the Loon
Our group of 8 golfers played an afternoon scramble here, and had a great time. Everything was in good shape, and pace of play was alright. Loved the cheering from the restaurant deck as we tried to make one last birdie on the 18th green.
Same as I remember
The course was in pretty good condition considering the area had rain every day for the last two weeks. The pro at desk said the course was on its way back after some green neglect (mold). The exception of sand trap on the back that I mentioned to the pro (when i said something he knew exactly what hole I was talking about) had no sand and had to pitch high to the green did not work out well. This course is under the management of the Loon and if you played the Loon they do know how to create good course conditions.
Loon and Swoon
First time playing this track and was not disappointed. The course played very tough. Driver is a questionable call having to navigate the skinny fairways. You'll pay for an errant one off the tee, as the rough is thick and punishing.
Course could've been in a tad better shape, some shag but all in all solid course.
The ranger kept pushing us to stay and play; however, we have a house 5 min down the road so we don't know why he was so adamant about the S&P, but a nice dude.
Awesome
Great tract. Love the elevation changes and the holes around the lake on the back. Challenging for average golfer but loved the scenery. Unannounced to us, our tee time was moved up 20 minutes. Luckily, we got there early and ahead of a group of 12. Worked out perfectly. They were concerned about us slowing them down. We finished 6 holes ahead of them. Staff unbelievably cordial and friendly. A must play when we go back.
