About Loon Golf Resort
The Loon Golf Resort has grown to include a second location in Gaylord: The Ridge, formerly the Marsh Ridge Golf Resort. The Loon offers a townhome village with four-bedroom/four-bathroom units with full kitchens just steps from the clubhouse restaurant and the course. The Ridge is more versatile with hotel-style rooms, suites and free-standing condos, all within walking distance to the Summit Grill. Lodges named Copenhagen (11 rooms, one apartment), Summit (20 rooms) and Bergen (12 rooms) all feature a large common/recreation area. The Scandinavian Cabin sleeps 12 with six bedrooms, a fireplace, full kitchen and living area. Its 6,231-yard course is short but beautiful. The 6,418-yard Lakes course sports four holes on Lake Michaywe roughly four miles from both resort properties.Facts

bad weather, good course
Played on a very cool, windy day. Only people on whole course. From what I have read, this course has made a lot of improvements. Loved the elevation changes. Greens have recently been infected w/ "silver dollar" mold which is being treated but may remain remainder of season. Staff super friendly. Great clubhouse. Will definately play here again.........on a nicer day !!!
nice but nothing special
Did the stay and play. Great clubhouse/pro shop. Food very good, accommodations excellent. Staff extremely friendly. Course is ok. Typical thru the woods layout w/ some swampy areas. Nice scenery. Greens very beat up but it was late Sept. so that can be expected. Caught 2 couples on #3 and they never let us thru. No one ahead of them or behind us. Waited on every shot. Guess you shouldn't blame the course because people ahead of you were discourteous idiots.
Must play
A must play. This course is our go too course in gaylord. Great risk and reward. Friendly design. Good value. Sign up for special emails.
Great course
Fun course to play. Excellent condition. No senior rate or twilight rate.
An old friendly course.
Being late October, there were lots of leaves down even though the ground crew were doing their best to blow them off. The tee boxes were in poor shape. Rough, uneven, uncut. The value was great as we only paid $20.
Fall Golf
Played at Marsh Ridge recently with friends. The greens and tee boxes were not attentively maintained with leaves (which is understandable for fall) and earthworm holes (maybe due to recent rain) on them. Pace of play is fine since we are the first group off the tee in the morning. When I got to the course, pro shop has not been opened yet (our tee time is 8:10 AM). Our group checked in at the front desk of the resort and was told to take our carts and go, so we did. Unfortunately there were no keys in the carts. It took us a little while before we can get on our way. The staff and manager are very nice and helpful (rushed to get us checked in and finding the keys to the carts). With so many nice golf courses to play in the area, I will play other courses next time I'm in the area.
Fabulous Fall Views
We played the Michawaye courses 20 years ago, and enjoyed them. This was our first experience at The Lakes Course. The views on a beautiful fall day were breathtaking. The front nine greens were very challenging..tough to read. The fairways were in great shape. The back nine was very enjoyable and fair. We would definitely return
Liked the Course, But...
Nice course. Reasonably well conditioned, nice rolling greens, firm set up. Some areas in fairways that need work (ant hills, ground under repair), but overall not too bad. Bunkers needed to be power raked too. Good driving range. Played on a Golf Now discount for $25. Enjoyed playing it and would again.
Some loss of golfing ambience early on, with several holes bordering I-75...serious traffic noise could be distracting.
Took over 5 hours to play...an outing where 20+ handicappers were playing the Black tees slowed play down considerably. Rangers and course could have easily prevented this. Disappointed that the course didn't act.
Fun Course
Well maintained northern Michigan course with several scenic holes overlooking natural wetlands. Open fairways provide leniency off the tee, but each hole still feels secluded and unique. Would definitely play again.
Hidden Gem
First played this course 15 years ago, enjoyed it then and even more this time.
Not the quality of other resorts nearby
First one off at 8:25am so played fast as a twosome which was nice. Website boasted Butch Harmon and Natalie Gulbis, but I doubt either would put their name on this place now if they came back. Course conditions don't compare to Treetops or Boyne nearby. Greens had moss spots, many I repaired divots, and cart had two sand jugs that were completely empty which shows how poor they upkeep things. Only saving grace was our $35 price to play. If you are coming up here to play, play a nicer course.
Beware of golf outings in the middle of the morning
I really don't remember the course because we were so frustrated following a golf outing that made it a five hour round. The course did not indicate that there was an outing nor did golfnow show anything when I made the reservation. It would certainly be helpful to know that four men cannot stay ahead of four old men and women. It took five hours to play a course that should have taken four. Golf is in serious trouble if that is not corrected.
Loon
busy golf course that day
a lot of waiting
scenic course with nice pines
fast greens
West branch foursome
Really enjoyed the outing. The course was just difficult enough to be lots of fun but not difficult enough to beat you up.
First time @ the Loon
Not extremely challenging but a very fair layout. At 6300 yds from the blue it was a good test of skill level. Greens read very true. An enjoyable day for father and son combination.
Great day of golf
Great course layout with challenging greens. Will play again this fall
COURSE IS IMMACULATE
PLAYED THIS COUSE AFTER 2 DAYS OF RAIN WAS A LITTLE WET BUT VERY PLAYABLE
Needs work.
The prettiest scenery of all the courses we played, but the course condition was the worst. Tees didn't look like they'd been moved all season and greens were in very poor condition. Too bad they don't take care of this beautiful course.
Beautiful
The course was in excellant condition, even though a thunder storm moved through 5 minutes after we arrived. The staff were very nice & told us we would be able to get started as soon as the storm quit & it dried out a bit. Even though it was cart path only & a few very wet spots we enjoyed our round & hope to back soon.
Pleasantly surprised
I had low expectations going into the round. I thought The Lakes would be a low end municipal course, especially because you can get great deals on the greens fees. From the first hole I was pleasantly surprised, and I continued to be intrigued and pleased throughout the round. The layout is very interesting and offers a lot of variety. While the elevation changes are not as dramatic as at some Northern Michigan courses, plenty of other features kept me entertained. The course was full but the traffic moved nicely. There is no water on the course and we did not see a beverage cart, so bring or buy snacks and water. An excellent value and a very enjoyable day.
