Shanty Creek
About Shanty Creek
The 5,000 acres of Shanty Creek Resorts are spread among three villages - Cedar River, Schuss and Summit, each with at least one golf course, restaurant and accommodations galore. The Summit is arguably home base with the Lakeview Lodge housing the Lakeview Restaurant, the spa and the Legend and Summit golf courses. The resort added the Hawk's Eye course and accommodations across the street in 2021.Facts

A fine ride
My son and I fully enjoyed our round. It is an engaging course, with a balance of appropriate and challenge. The course is in great shape. Staff was very helpful. We look forward to play ing the course again.
A great day at Shanty Creek’s best course
I have played all the Shanty Creek courses and continue to come back to Hawks Eye. Just one of my favorite Northern Michigan courses. Outstanding value and quality of golf.
AWESOME COURSE!
Hawk's Eye never disappoints. Good pace if play, very friendly staff and the beauty of the course is spectacular. The greens can be very deceiving but are fair. Enjoy a round, you won't be disappointed.
Great Up North Golf
Booked a 7 am spot for my wife and I, last minute while we were in the area. $29 for 9 holes at a very nice resort. Staff was excellent, very helpful. With no one in front we played in an 1hr 20 min which was great, the kids weren’t even awake when we returned to Grandma’s house.
Greens were fast and true, in great shape. I’m not sure if they irrigate fairways/roughs here there were some dry areas but not bothersome at all. I really enjoyed the casual feeling of the Summit, i look forward to coming back to play the Legend.
Terrible Experience
The course allowed a 5-some to play. When I called the Pro Shop and asked them if that was permitted he (Colby) said "no". When we spoke after the round, Colby indicated that "his Manager had approved the group and it was a bad idea". After the Ranger allowed us to go through the 5-some, we came across 4 young adults who were literally doing donuts in their carts on tee boxes! A homeowner came out and yelled at them. Ranger/course did not kick off these delinquents. In speaking with the homeowner they said "this stuff happens a lot". When I went in after the round and complained to the Pro Shop, they said "there hands are tied" in expelling people from the course. They offered no reimbursement for the round. Absolute disaster and will not be back!
Great Course, Good Value, Great Shape!
Staff was courteous, welcoming, polite, sincere and helpful from bag drop to finish. Course is in great shape and mostly forgiving. Rates are really reasonable which makes it even better!
Good challenge
The good challenges brought in slow play. Finished first nine, we played the back first, in well under 2 hours. There was nobody in front of us. When we hit the front nine to finish, the brakes went on. Ended up leaving after 13 holes. As we headed to the clubhouse, every hole from 14 on was stacked up.
Good conditions otherwise.
Golf review
The course was in good shape. The only complaint I have was that they did not honor a free round of golf that I received from Hawk’s Eye. Coupon had no expiration date but they said there was a new owners and they would not honor the coupon.
Over a one hour delay
We booked a teatime for 11 AM. We got to the course section 45 and were informed that they were running a tournament and that we would not be able to tee off until 12 to 12:30 PM. The back nine had nobody on it. We teed off with another couple on the back nine and finished in less than an hour and a half. We went to the clubhouse to make the turn, on the first hole were told and we could not get on the course from most two hours. There was approximately 10 people waiting for a tee time because of the tremendous back up from their tournaments. We have played this course many times in the past. Very poor time management by the course today.
SHANTY CREEK Legend golf course
Enjoyable, round of golf. no problem with bugs or black flies. Course was in good condition.. piece of play was terrible the day we played. Almost 5 hours to finish the round.
#5 pace of play in 2022.....not this year!!!
I've lost count of how many times I've played Cedar over the years. In fact it's one of my favorite courses to play - Weiskopf designed fabulous fun golf courses didn't he?
It was the weekend but 112 bucks (guest rate of member) is pretty ridiculous....most I think I've ever paid for Cedar since it opened. You get great service and smiles all the way around but for pretty much the entire day we were stacked up on the tee box with the group in front of us. I guess when people are spending that much to play golf (course was packed to the gills) they feel like they can do most anything including play slowly. We had a guy in front of us who threw his club helicopter style at least three times in anger. Both groups in front of us were first timers - the 5th hole is a bottleneck and on the back nine the 12th hole brings pace to a crawl.....so how the heck Golf Advisor ranked Cedar #5 in 2022 for pace of play is beyond me. It's at least a 4.5 plus hour round on weekends.
Range to warm up on which is on the way to the first tee box. Greens were in great shape, traps were just ok and Shanty owners should have them refurbished especially for the amount of coin they now charge. Halfway house is credit card only. You can visit it after #2 and #9. Abnormally dry early season weather has patches of fairwaybrowning out. With the amount of rounds this course gets there are quite a few sand filled divots in the fairways.
Always a solid 4 star plus experience....except it's getting to be a bit too pricey and three are courses just as good nearby that charge far less.Recommend however your wallet will be much lighter.....Cedar isn't a $100 plus experience.....charging that you should expect perfect conditions as well as no pace of play issues..
Waste of a Pasture
Course was pretty rugged and not well maintained. Needed a lot more water. My recommendation: play another course at Shanty Creek.
