The course needs lots of work
I played the Redbud course because the other one was closed. The course is down to dirt on the tee boxes fairways and just before the greens. Its is not worth $100. The staff in both the restaurant and pro shop are fantastic but the course is beat up. I drove over an hour to get there and feel like it was a wasted trip. Hopefully they can fix it by next season but we will see.
Great Course…. But needs improvement
I played Winstar - Scissortail, 2 times last week and Monday the fairways were soaked from watering and made play much more difficult. Balls were sinking in the ground, getting no roll and made chipping almost impossible.
Saturday was a little better with how much had been watered but on the 10th hole, there were workers on the fairway spreading sand and half the fairway had the grass cut out of it and piles of sand in several places. No one told us the 10th hole would be under construction but open… I wasn’t going to hit a ball with several workers in the middle of the fairway, so we just skipped the hole.
To their credit, it looks like they are trying to resolve the issues with large patches in the fairways and greens that are just plain dead making putting an adventure, especially for a hacker like me.
The amenities are nice. Cold bottled water before you take off are provided along with ice. Filled my cooler up on the cart with 5 bottles of water and ice and refilled at the turn. There are air conditioned bathrooms on the course, which is a very nice amenity with more water provided at those.
So much potential here for the largest Casino in the world to do better with course conditions and this would be one of the best courses in the area dollar for dollar.
Nice course
I played the sissortrail course, Although they’re were some bad spots on the fairway’s the greens were in excellent condition. Overall good value
Don't waste your money!!
Course needs improvement. Some greens 80% sand with hardly any grass. Lots of bare mud holes throughout the fairways. Carts prevent you from driving in sections of the course and slow you down through main areas.
Scissortale Good
Played at 1030 on July 2nd believing that the course was going to be burnt from the lack of rain. Was really surprised to see they have put a tremendous amount of water so that fairways and greens were in very good shape. There were just a few spots I found that were needing attention but overall I was very happy. Staff, facilities and amenities were on par. Word of advice, don't get out of the fairway as the rough is thick grass and you will loose balls easily.
Lovely course
Drove up from Dallas to play a round here and it was so worth the drive. Great course conditions and even the 12th hole they warn you about is not bad at all. Plenty of amenities provided and great customer service as well. I will definitely be playing here as often as I can!
Great course, worth the drive!
Great course, the new clubhouse is unreal. This place is probably the 2nd best public golf in the DFW area, only second to PGA Fields Ranch.
On ScissorTail, they are having to regrow some fairway grass on a couple of holes, and on the 12th green. Nothing too bad and it will fill in this summer I'm sure. The fairways and greens are really good (the greens had just been punched but we're in good shape). Because of the winter dead spots, they discounted the round about 50%, which is more than other courses will even think of doing.
Do yourself a favor, play here, get there early, and enjoy the new bar area. Worth it.
Rosebud Golf Course
Very friendly staff. The fairways and greens were very well maintained. Was paired off with a father and his son in law. They were very nice people. Had a great time.
The Scissortail course is pretty beat up. Fairway grass nearly non-existent. Two greens had less than 20% grass. The entire course is and will be Cart Path Only for the foreseeable future. Pace was very slow due to the CPO rules. Bunkers were in good shape and 16 of the greens were pretty good too. Due to CPO and conditions, I did receive a significant discount. It made it worth the drive. Rumor has it they may close the Scissortail for a bit so it can recover. Staff was very friendly as always, the practice facilities still a great experience, and we tried the new restaurant this time. I'll be back to play Redbud again soon but I'll hope that Scissortail recovers for the fall.
Winstar Redbud
People were very friendly. It was cart path due to rain the day before. Played with a twosome They were friendly where it made the game more enjoyable. Will definitely return
Update on conditions
Both courses at Winstar are still recovering from freeze/drought/green rebuilds. Redbud's greens were very firm although not exceptionally fast. Rolled about 9 but very true. Some areas around the greens are still growing in or are void of bermudagrass. Fairways were mostly good, just a few bare spots. Rough is still pretty penal but rarely in play. Bunkers were in good shape. Redbud layout is mostly the original course at WS - very fun, mostly open, some good strategic shots needed. The weather was perfect - barely any wind (a rarity here) and 80 degrees. The big clubhouse is now open - no more trailer!
Happened to be paired up with two guys from my hometown in Pennsylvania. Pretty cool and they even knew who I was from 30+ years ago! Good group to get paired up with. We played in 4:05 on a Sunday afternoon - not bad.
One thing about WInstar that needs mentioned. The practice facilities. Free range balls. big practice putting green. Chipping/pitching greens. You could easily spend an hour or two prepping your game. Since this is a bit of a destination golf course, go early and use the outstanding practice facilities.
Fun day, I'll be back to play in the wind and hopefully a little more grass around the greens.
Still needs help
First time I have played since the big freeze. The course still has not recovered from the freeze from 2 years ago.. the greens were in good shape only a few bare spots. This is always a good course can’t wait till the course has fully recovered.
I suggest to wait to recovered more
Golf Pass Winstar Course
If it wasn't cart path only, it would have been better. Course needs work on greens and fairways too many dry patches .
Excellent GC and staff
Just finished a weekend golf event with a bunch of guys. The Scissortail Course was a real gem of a layout. Very pretty holes and challenging. It was in good shape. A few holes still had some rough areas and one green suffered from freeze damage, but overall it was very playable. Excellent practice area. Choose your tees wisely and you will enjoy your round. Golf staff and F&B staff are all very friendly. I'd definitely return.
