Windy Day but Nice Temps for February
The course is very challenging with lots of cliffs. I guess that's a given considering the name of the course. The course was in good shape for winter play. The greens were in good condition and putted true. Enjoyed the round and the staff was great.
Favorite course in Texas
The Cliffs is by far my favorite course in Texas! I have played multiple courses in Ireland and it beats a lot of them!
I play the Cliffs multiple times a year and it is always a fun and challenging course! Fairways are in great shape (even the Texas summer heat) and the greens roll true.
Stunning Views
The course was in really good shape. The greens rolled very smoothly and the tee boxes and fairways were good. The layout is one of the best I've played in Texas, and the views are undeniably spectacular. Worth a few hours in the car to get to.
One of the Great Courses
I own property in the Resort and get 35 free rounds a year, so I get out whenever I can, but it is usually on 3-4 time a year. Of all the courses I have played around the country, this is one of the unforgettable ones. The views are spectacular and the course is challenging and interesting with many forced carries risk/reward approach shots. Even better the course, always in good shape, is under new management and is in the best condition ever. The wild fires a few years ago did affect the course, thinning out some of the trees on some of the holes, but it has recovered nicely.
This is a bucket list course, and I highly recommend every serious golfer in North, West, or Central Texas make an effort to play it. Also the resort has good accomodations and an excellent restaurant if you want to make a golf trip out of it.
One of the best
Even though the course conditions aren't what you expect when you pay over priced green fees this place still is one of the best. VERY challenging so bring lots of balls haha. Great views and the layout is what makes it great in my opinion. For sure is on the Texas bucket list of golf courses.
fun, tough golf course!
Played with two other guys yesterday (Sunday), we teed off at 9 am after hitting range balls from a natural grass range in good shape with a practice area for chipping & putting as well. We played the round in just over 4 hours and had very little to any waiting time. The course is fair but challenging. Strong possibility you will lose your golf ball with a bad shot. Fairways and greens are in very good shape. Well worth the trip to PK to play golf!
Memorable
Gorgeous views on a challenging layout with nice greens make up for the bare areas on the fairways.
Staff was very friendly and patient in explaining that drought conditions and salt water have hurt turf conditions.
A state of the art water treatment plant is in the works which will certainly make this course incredible.
Golf shop was very nice with more offerings than you would expect to find at such a remote location.
Will definetly play again.
Wonderful Experience!
We had a great time playing the Cliffs!
First off, it is in a very peaceful location, right off Possum Kingdom. A good sized driving range, and large putting green.
Carts did not have GPS, but they were a little faster than normal. The course also provides you with a cooler to ride as well.
I really enjoyed the layout of the course. Par 71, plays 6800 from the back tees. The course is challenging, especially when the wind blows like it did. Most holes will feature some sort of ravine or drop off that you must avoid, and several holes where your approach has to carry, with no area to run it up.
Holes 8 and 9 are alone the cliff side of the Lake, and offer really unique views. 8 is a par 5 with a "horseshoe" design. You start with an abbreviated tee shot, and a second that must carry a ravine. Third shot cannot miss right. 9 played 200 to the back, with a stiff wind in your face. On the back nine, there are several great holes, highlighted by the last par 3. It played 190, but with a 100 foot drop off. Oh and the wind was straight in your face.
Overall it's a great course. I enjoyed that there really weren't any throw-away holes, as every one offered a challenge. You will earn a good score as there aren't many easy holes.
I knocked them on conditions as the course was bare at some places, but otherwise the conditions were very good. The bent grass greens were rock hard, but they were slow. However I found it difficult to spin back any wedges.
In all I will definitely play this course again. Great course for a $45 twilight fee, in a picturesque setting. If you want a relaxing round, that challenges your game, head out to PK.
