THE LODGE at Kiln Creek Golf Club & Resort

It has been at least 15 years since I had played Kiln Creek and I was pleasantly surprised. Even though it was a rainy day, the course was in very good condition. Very well kept. I can't wait to go back and take some of my friends with me.

I was told the course is being coming back from not so good years. Well if that is true. The people working on this course are doing a fantastic job. The greens are in great shape and maybe a bit slower that some courses but the rolled true and very putt able. Fairways are nice. Bunkers had powdery sand and lots of it. I think it looks great and plays great. We had a great time here.

Kiln Creek was a great experience booking last minute through Golf Now. I teamed up with another player and we blitzed through the course in 3 hours. The greens were good and true. Nice deep rough but very playable if you miss the fairway.

I live in the neighborhood this course was built within, and have for some time. What was once a good layout was ruined in the early 2000's by the extraction of many of the clubs bunkers, most of which were fairway bunkers. With the extraction of the bunkers went much of the visual appeal of the course, but alas it's still a serviceable venue. The majority of the reason why it still serviceable is the new management. Up until about two years ago, the course was run by a real estate investor who had marginal interest in managing the golf course. He let it fall into disrepair. The homeowners association in the neighborhood purchased the course, and hired a management team that has been very successful in restoring the conditioning of the golf course. That said, course conditioning is now typically very good here. Greens run average, if not slightly fast (don't start me lying about the Stimp - h**l if I know what they run).

There are some fun holes. The second hole is a short par five, reachable in two shots. There is a lake that borders the front of the green, offering some risk/reward. The eighth hole is the signature hole, which has a cross running fairway bunker just past another lake you must carry on your tee shot. The holes on the back nine are similar to the front in style and character.

But there's one common theme about this course, and that's the neighborhood. There are few holes where homes don't come into play, and they are visible on basically every hole.

Overall, it's not a course he would seek out to play, but if you are around and interested in playing, it is definitely your best option on the lower Virginia peninsula outside of the Williamsburg courses.

Friendly staff and great conditions even after the rain we just had

course in good shape, greens fast and true, not many people in the middle of the day, played in a little over 3 hrs, by myself and never had to wait, just drive up to ball and hit it, the way golf should be

this is a top notch course with all the hazards you'd expect, doglegs, rough, water, sand. It helps to know this hilly course with blind shots to sloping fairways and hazards on more than a few holes. The course was very wet from recent rain and doesn't drain very well. We were restricted to cart paths only which slowed play down a lot.

Course was in fair shape. Greens were fast and still had some aeration marks on them. Overall I was extremely happy with my experience.

I don't know if it's just because the staff doesn't care, or because they are just rude. Waited to be checked in for 5 minutes before another staff member checked me in because the other was talking to someone about sports. The course is in terrible condition, compared to others in the area, and not that nice of a course. Newport News area is a bad area for golfers, I'd rather travel to Williamsburg or Virginia Beach to play.

Great course, fast greens on a windy day(18 to 20 mph) for golf. Could not beat the Golfnow (Hot Deal) on that tee time.

This is the 2nd time in a row that the course tried to not honor our tee time using golf now. They have shared it is because they do not get the money we pay golfnow. Not a great way to do business. This is twice this has happened.
