Getting Better
I've played Kiln Creek a couple times a year for the past 10 years and have generally been underwhelmed. I felt the course had merit but there seemed to be something lacking in how the course was set up or maintained. Just little things, nothing major, just things that made me ask "why". I'm glad to say that wasn't the case this time. There seemed to be a new attitude, a positive attitude that says "This is a nice track, we're proud of it, and we want you to enjoy playing it". The sand bunkers had recently been renewed with high quality sand. The tee boxes were leveler and properly cut. The fringes were well maintained with much less baldness. The greens were a little too hard but were consistent and true. The fairways were a little thin but its been a tough spring to grow grass. Finally, there is a lot of work going on to renew and update the club house, locker rooms, and meeting areas. I'll definitely come back soon and trust that the improvements and refinements will continue. The Hampton-Newport News area needs a quality course and Kiln Creek may just fill that need.
Not bad
The course was pretty good value for money. However the fairways and greens need some work. Presumably theiywill get attention as the season progresses.
Bang for your buck
First time playing.....conditions were good...would recommend this course to anyone
Best place to go if you get a deal
Kiln creek is revamping the bunkers and seem to have gotten the front 9 finished. The bunkers were terrible before so this is a huge plus. I play on weekdays usually with a golf now deal. Hardly anyone is on the course so no rushing and no long waits on the tee box. This course is very spread out between some holes but is pretty average in terms of difficulty. This is a perfect place for the average golfer to play at a nice pace without crowds. The prime season rates for 18 with a cart are steep so I recommend finding a deal.
Wait until summer
Course layout is nice! Short course so a "must play" from the tips. Tee boxes are in bad shape and there is a lot of work being done on grounds. A lot of hard pan right off the fairways where the first cut rough should be and fairways have not grown in. Bunker sand and greens are a solid 7.5/10. Considering golf now "Hot" deal Patrice of $12 it was worth it. But for regular price I would wait until summer time. Should be a great course by then.
cart path only not good
Had steady rain the day before and was cart path only the day of which is not a good course for cart path only and had some workers on the greens. this course has sections that are very hilly but I need to step my game up some what to work for me on this course
Good Course
Numerous hills, bunkers and elevated greens, and narrow fairways. If walking it could become aerobic. Need to visit after a dry spell since the place becomes pretty soggy after periods of precipitation. All that aside, if you're looking for a challenge this is the place to go.
Help needed!
The course is a good $17 dollar track. Very similar to NN golf, The Hamptons, Woodlands all the other local tracks as far as condition. Putting some money in this place is long overdue.
When we played the traps where full of water and overall condition of track was fair at best.
Greens in excellent conditions
This course was in fairly good condition even after it had rained the night before. There were some fairways that had standing water, but I took a club length for my approach shot. The greens were in excellent shape and seemed to roll true. Playing from tips the 10th hole is a challenging test. Just make sure you aim you drive at the bunker on the right side, this will ensure that your ball winds up in the middle of the fairway. Overall it was a great round of golf.
Great Golf Experience
Kiln Creek is a great golf course. I had breakfast before my round and the food was amazing. Golf course is in great shape minus bunkers. Bunkers are in bad shape. Stay out of them and your okay. I love that the fairways and greens are elevated. Lots of rolling hills and rolling cart paths.
Great conditions
From tee to green, Kiln Creek is in great shape and very fun.
Overall in good shape
Fairways and greens in great shape. Main complaint is that ALL sand traps need to be refilled with sand. Green side traps are mainly nothing but dirt. If I were s member I would be upset given how many bunkers are on the course.
Great course for a great price
Course is in great shape and played in just under 4 hours. Great deal thanks to golf now.
sloooooooow
No marshall to speed up the group in front of us,; we watched a person swing the club 10 times and advance the ball 50 yards. A person was chipping onto the putting green over the cart path where we were driving; again no marshall to 'babysit' these people. We won't go back.
Course has TERRIBLE sand traps.
If there is any attempt to make these traps playable, it is not apparent. Water has washed out the slopes of the traps and the water puddles in the middle to a point were you may have to drop out of the hazard to have a shot, What a shame. The course has great eye appeal, fairways and greens are above average
price for locals
prices could come down some. esp. for people outside kiln creek.
good course ....poor staf
Booked a time for two players , when we showed up they told us we had to wait for two other players to join.We have used the golf now ap many times and never ran into this, we stated that we would prefer two only and would wait longer if needed. It is up to the course management how they handle this situation and these guys didn't apologize or offer any options , It really felt as if they were not fans of the golf now ap. We left and went to a course that would accommodate us. RUDE STAFF , ,,, BOOOO
Well Conditioned Course
My first time playing course in three years and it is still in great condition. Fairways and greens are well maintained. The are several elevated greens, strategic bunkers, doglegs, and water to test your accuracy and ball striking ability,. Can wait to play it again,
Greens were excelent
We enjoyed the course. Several of the holes will offer a big challenge but overall it is a great course. Staff was very nice .
Average
Course played well for $29. Green were being worked on. Good for the price, not worth the weekend rate.
