Mine field greens
Check in was quick and easy. The range is the best around town as I am a local. The course was clean, but the greens were the worst greens I have seen all summer. They were bumpy, patches of dryness and just plain not taken care of. The best looking green on the course was on the 17th hole. All day long my partner, the guys were playing with and myself were putting through craters on the green. You would start a putt online and within a few feet would change directions due to bumps in the green, the million unrepaired ball marks, etc. I have played this course many times before and have been please, but Saturday the greens really took away from the experience.
A good course that could use some work
The Crossings is a solid daily-fee course that is somewhat challenging. It is almost 6,700 from the back tees and it has several bunkers lining fairways and guarding greens. It's true feature is it's 17th hole which is over water. A genuine beauty it could decide a tournament. All of that is true about the course, but the Crossings has some faults. It's fairways are thin with patches stretching up to 30 yards of no grass just ground. This isn't on one or two holes it is on about all of them. This course is worth a 20-30 minute drive and 50 dollars, but it is not the true gem of Richmond.

Pace of play was ok, course in good condition
Hi Aj2667851,
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your round. We hope to see you back again soon!
Disappointing
Had heard great things for years about this course and finally had the chance to play it. Layout was average, but the conditions were poor. I'll give an extra star on the overall rating because it had rained a lot recently, but the conditions seemed more the result of maintenance decisions than a short term weather event.
Hi RavensGolfer,
Thank you for your review. We apologize that the course conditions were not up to par. Our team is working very hard to make the necessary improvements. We hope to see you out here again sometime soon!
Could have been better
Course smelled from some type of nasty water used on greens and fairways
Crossings
A beautiful layout. The course must have been magnificent at one time,, but it looks to be suffering from financial woes. Still a nice place to play. Certainly enough challenge for the average golfer.
Cold and very windy
Amazes me the activity this very average course maintains. Location or just age of course it is always busy. First week April , temperatures low mid forties wind blowing 15-20 mph and still active. Not crowded and pace very good, but still more groups than I was expecting. Staff always accomadating. Now have only played course couple times , but to me average to fair at best. Layout ok , little short, but most holes not very memorable. Conditions thou are only fair. Fairways worst of any course in area that I have played. Grass hard to find in many and tee boxes very sandy. Greens ok , little slow but average . Traps hard and packed , but luckily only played out of one. Playing partner not so lucky and complaining how hard traps were. Never seen any real maintenance or work activity . Must be something to attract , because does get a lot of activity, just don't see the attraction.
Absolutely awful
The court was terrible. 90% of the fairways had no grass and we're basically dirt. The tee boxes were bad along with the greens. I was backed up on every single hole. I would never ever come back here in my life. Definitely DO NOT recommend!!!
Best condition I've seen
Course is in great shape! Greens are the best I've seen.
Time of year impacted experience
I've played here several times, but never in November, and probably won't play there again during this time of year. Lost 4 balls on drives in fairway due to leaves. It was insane, starting with #1 hole! Granted, #1 was was impacted the most by the leaves, but a few others were, as well. But, the real disappointment of the day were the condition of the bunkers. They were either full of water or packed dirt. Unfortunately, I managed to find a few bunkers, and all were awful. The layout is nice, and the greens were in very good shape, aside from having to spend time removing leaves to putt. In short, I'm rating a 4 because of the time of year, but the bunkers were not acceptable, regardless of the season. To end on a positive, the guy in the pro shop was very pleasant and welcoming. Looking forward to playing an improved course next spring.
Good day at The Crossings!
Great day had the course basically to ourselves. Course in good condition.
Aeration Alert
I like the layout. The upkeep is average but there is a nice mix of holes. I found one thing very odd, they had recently aerated the greens and to make up for the difficult putting surface they had installed 6 inch holes! I have never seen or heard of that before. it didn't help us; we still missed our birdie putts like always;)
A pleasant experience.
Has been years since I have played this course. Friendly staff, good course conditions, pace of play was relaxed but moving. Good value. Will definitely go back again.
Above the hole-TROUBLE!
I enjoyed playing this course. While most of the course was green, there were some burned out areas and one tee box was grass-free. The green rolled true, but they were very fast (particularly when downhill).
I normally average 31 putts per round, but I had 42 putts that day. Most fairways had generous landing areas.
Great course
A great course and always a good conditions. Staff extremely friendly.
Where were the spring flowers
Ok, let's qualify this review with my poor play first. Just like Tiger, long and spraying the ball . Course thou was very weak. Heard years ago how nice a course the crossings was, but now either the weather or the constant play has ruined it. Tee boxes were very weak, sandy and at times hard to get the proper footing. Fairways were non existent. Hard , sandy. Only green areas were close to the roads. Traps, luckily did not visit much, but looked hard muddy and not really playable. They had just aerated the greens so give them pass for their weakness. Had tee time of 121 pm and course was very crowded. Maybe the multitude of players has just worn the course out, but DO NOT plan on going back anytime soon. With the numerous tracks in our area in great shape , no need.
Awful
Greens awful sandy - 8 inch holes-
Waste of time, staff did not want to offer rain check- not going back there-
6 Ps ignored at this Place
Proper, Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance...Though this course has nice vistas and challenging holes, on this day I was less than impressed. To begin, we were started on the back 9 (which is good to manage groups and pace of play). The drain was horrible. Drives in the fairway plugged 8-10 times, four of the holes had greens so bumpy that it felt like putting over stucco. As we get to 18, the Marshal comes up to us and explains that the Grounds crew started aerating the front nine early and we'd have to play the back again. Not only does this mess up our scoring, but my guest was looking forward to playing the front, as he'd never played the course before. At the end we were offered a raincheck for only the front nine and I lost a client due to this poor management. I wish you all luck, because this was the last time I will ever play this poorly managed course. No wonder the rumors of them being sold off are rampant.
Pace of play ruins the experience
I have played the crossings on several occasions and it is usually not too bad. However, the past two times I have played the pace of play has been unbearable. It completely ruins any fun that could be had. It took us almost 4 hours to play 9 holes! On hole 2 which is a par 5 there were 5 groups on one hole. One on the green, one hitting their approach shot onto the green, one in the fairway, my group standing on the tee box waiting to tee off and then the group behind me waiting to get up to the tee box. It was simply unacceptable and the staff at the course needs to find a way to fix this. Avoid this course at all cost on weekend.
First time at The Crossings
It was a wet course on a windy day but it's January, so just being able to get out is a plus. The course was in good shape and I enjoyed the layout. I will play again if they continue to offer good deals on line.
Thank you for your review. We are disappointed to hear that you did not have a good experience with the greens. Please email us at TheCrossingsGC@outlook.com so that we may further discuss your round. We hope to hear from you soon.
