Devil's Head Resort
About Devil's Head Resort
Devil’s Head Resort in Merrimac in Sauk County has grown from a small ski resort to one of Wisconsin’s best ski-and-golf destinations. The resort opened in 1970 with a 92-room hotel, four chairlifts and 10 runs in 1970. Today, Devil’s Head offers two golf courses, 138 hotel rooms, more suites and condos, six dining options, a conference center and more chairlifts and ski runs. Art Johnson designed both courses, Glacier and Prairie Glen. Glacier navigates a maze of elevation changes with rugged features of rock out-croppings and water on seven holes. Prairie Glen offers its own challenges with island greens and plenty of water and traps.Facts

Very Interesting Course
This is a very unique course, Very pretty, lots of elevations and blind holes. It gets some grief from other reviewers because of the condition of the some of the greens at times, but unless you're a golf snob, just enjoy the layout.
Great Day
Fabulous day of Golf. Staff was the best. Look forward to next year.
BeautifulArea
Devils head resort is in a beautiful area. The golf course is recently priced but is a bit tired. The greens staff are doing the best they can with a limited budget. A good value and a beautiful.ride in the country to get there.
Devils Head Golf Charges - for Thomas Mooney
I was told that if I reserved my teel time via our sight at Devil's Head on 9/20/23 at 11:28 a.m. that I would be assessed a reservation fee of $6 and then when I get to the course, they would only charge me $78 for a total of $84 for two players yesterday. When I got to the course, they charged me $82.29 cents. When I told them I was supposed to only pay $78 they told me their charge was $82.29 as Golf Pass needed to get their cut -- so I ended up paying at total of $88.29 cent instead of $84. Which was disappointing. You need to make sure what you quote is what one gets charged. Otherwise, I should have just called the course and booked my tee time by myself.
DL9/20/23
Spots on a number of holes were irrigation system was leaking. So a few balls we lost in middle of fairways They also need better yardage markers on fairways. Layout is beautiful with many challenging holes 😎.
Beautiful location
Good Rend were in very good condition but cart paths weren’t. More attention to detail is needed by the groundskeeper as many sprinklers were malfunctioning and mowers were cutting ruts in fairways. Located in Baraboo bluffs with many animals.
Wonderful
Everything was great there was a few greens that need work but other than that a great course
Beautiful but needs work
I've always loved getting out to Devil's Head. The course is is in a beautiful location and the views from some of the holes are stunning. That said, the upkeep is a little underwhelming. Most hours are fine, but some of the fairways and greens were pretty rough. This could easily be a destination course. It needs some TLC though.
Beautiful views, great layout, but could use a little TLC.
Course was in decent shape. This could be a premiere golf destination if they would hire a good grounds keeper. There were a lot of things that could use some attention.
A nice course but not worth the fee
the location of the course is wonderful and there are some great views of the valley. The course was in terrible condition. Tee boxes were dead and hard, sand traps were like concrete, and several greens were dead. The cart paths were all ripped up and there was debris all over the course. That may have been due to a recent storm, but it was a mess.
Even though there were 2 beverage carts at the club house, none came around the course while we were there. Thankfully, it was a cooler afternoon, so the lack of service was not as noticeable.
While the layout was nice, it felt more like a city course. For $70 I'll pick a different course. This could be a very good course, but too pricey for what it is.
The pizza at the bar after the game was very good, and they get points for serving Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, on tap.
Great Course needing cash infusion
This nicely designed course through the woods of Wisconsin is suffering financially. Tee boxes and fairways need a lot more water; the greens while still lush were soft and slow. Carts were quick, and there are lots of them. Played in 3.25 hours so all this works for me!
Terrible course management
My brother and I unknowingly booked a tee time behind a giant outing and the guys working the check in made comments while they thought we were out of earshot saying things as if other tee times shouldn’t have been available for a few hours to break things up and made it seem like we shouldn’t be there. We played 6 holes in 2.25 hours. The ranger came out and acted as if we were the one’s holding up pace of play. How could a twosome be the one’s holding up pace of play for the foursomes behind us? Once he talked to the foursomes in front of us, nothing changed. Multiple groups waiting at tee boxes, the whole day was ridiculous. We played for 4.5 hours and left after 13 holes. Will not come back.
Glacier Greens
4 or 5 greens are unplayable. Holes and chunks of sod, never in my 45 years of playing have i seen worse conditions. really can"t believe they charge money for thjs. Close down for the year and hire a new superintendant.
