Devil's Head Resort
About Devil's Head Resort
Devil’s Head Resort in Merrimac in Sauk County has grown from a small ski resort to one of Wisconsin’s best ski-and-golf destinations. The resort opened in 1970 with a 92-room hotel, four chairlifts and 10 runs in 1970. Today, Devil’s Head offers two golf courses, 138 hotel rooms, more suites and condos, six dining options, a conference center and more chairlifts and ski runs. Art Johnson designed both courses, Glacier and Prairie Glen. Glacier navigates a maze of elevation changes with rugged features of rock out-croppings and water on seven holes. Prairie Glen offers its own challenges with island greens and plenty of water and traps.Facts

Island Green on #9 Photo submitted by zebra68 on 05/20/2014
Glacier Greens
4 or 5 greens are unplayable. Holes and chunks of sod, never in my 45 years of playing have i seen worse conditions. really can"t believe they charge money for thjs. Close down for the year and hire a new superintendant.
Horrific Conditions
Can’t state enough how terrible of conditions this course is in. The course needs a new owner or they need to put some money into it. The glacier course has unplayable conditions on every hole. Some holes look like they haven’t been maintained for a long time. I know $59 doesn’t sound that expensive but it’s way too much for this course which does have some nice views. I’d love to see the course stick some time and money into it to improve it. But easily the worst Course conditions I’ve seen personally. Save your time and money and play Baraboo or Reedsburg which are pretty close in proximity. Very very disappointed in my experience.
Horrific Conditions
My guess is the course is really struggling financially.
One of the worst conditioned courses I’ve played on. Greens were very slow and a couple were unplayable. Until there are new owners or they put more money into the course, stay away. Paid $60 on golf now and I can still say I feel like I was ripped off due to the poor conditions of the golf course. Unfortunate because it could really be a nice course with some really nice views of the bluffs. But it is an absolute dump and you should steer very clear from this course.
Lack of rain, or care
I liked everything about this course, EXCEPT
40 percent of the greens were not playable due to condition.
I might go back “IF” I knew the greens were better
Some good/some bad
The employees were all friendly and respectful and helpful. The course layout was really good with many picturesque views. It was also very fair scoring wise. However the conditions of the course were very poor, with many of the greens in really rough shape.
I know that Wisconsin is experiencing a drought, but they certainly should be able to get a handle on taking care of the greens.
I would try to play here again if I could be sure the greens were taken care of.
Showed up early because GolfNow app wont let you book tee times as a single, only certain ones , drove 40 minutes to the course and it was wide open, guy in the guard shack was rude because i was early , didn’t give me a cart key and helped the next people in line, I get it if the course was busy , however it was not! So I left and asked for a refund, I will not be back
GolfNow bargain
Played this with buddies on a GolfNow deal. Great price for any course around here. Conditions were not great. Lots of very dry spots when you get away from the club house. A few of the greens were half dirt. Lots of short par 4s.
Courses in very good shape, fantastic views
This course is part of a ski resort so the elevations are fantastic. Views are incredible. The condition of the course is very very good. The only thing I'll mention is the sand traps need to be attended to. I really enjoy playing this course. If you're in the area make it a must play. There are two courses there's also a glacier course both really nice.
book it on GolfNow
The course was in better shape than I expected after reading reviews. There is some repair work going on, but at least that means they're attempting to improve things. Some greens were pretty rough but we are in the middle of a drought here, so it kinda come with it. The round was booked for me by my boys for a fathers day gift and they paid 80 bucks a head. It's not an 80 dollar course, but the prices you can score on here would definitely be a deal. The scenery is good, the layout is pretty challenging without being terrible. There is no range, even though it says on here that there is. I played the Prairie Glen course a few years ago, that was a really pretty course. I don't know if it's still in as good of shape still, but may be worth checking.
Glacier Course is in poor shape
Much of the Glacier Course was under repair. The only yardage markers were the USGA slabs on the tee boxes, no fairway markers. All sand traps were under repair, 1/4 of the greens had bald spots (no grass), and a lot of the fences and cart paths were in bad shape. I was warned when we arrived that a few of the greens were in bad shape, however, I wish I were given the option to play the Prairie Course as it looked to be in much better shape. We didn't see a single person on the Glacier Course, and now I know why.
Terrible condition
Need to work on the greens. Beautiful layout but poor conditions. Have to do lots of improvements.
Devils Head Prairie Glen
Not great. Tee boxes were awful, greens were even worse. We were given a hard time upon check in even though we prepaid through GolfNow. Overall a poor experience. It is a shame to see this beautiful area go downhill at a rapid pace.
Beautiful location but coarse needs work
Beautifully located in the Baraboo Bluffs. Many sand traps were under repair and the greens were in average condition at best. Course needs some TLC especially at this price point. Definitely has potential due to the location, scenery and wildlife.
