The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie - The Woodlands
About
Located just a few minutes north of Olympia, the Golf Club at Hawk's Prairie is one of the South Sound's most popular golf destinations. The club has two 18-hole courses, each with a completely different layout. You can choose between the classic Scottish design of the Links Course or the Woodlands Course with its idyllic landscape of dense, old growth forest. The Woodlands is what you would expect from a Pacific Northwest golf course, with sprawling fairways that snake through towering trees and large, multi-tiered greens. Ponds and wetlands come into play throughout and there are strategically placed bunkers protecting most of the greens. In addition to offering both a challenging and scenic round, the course was also ranked as one of the Top 75 Most Affordable Golf Courses by Golf Digest.

Nice course - great for the $
The course has a lot of trees and is very well maintained. Went out on a Tuesday around 10 am and saw a couple other golfers on the course the entire round. The condition of the greens and the fairways were really good. We saw the beverage cart twice in 18 holes, so be prepared with your own food and beverages.
Woodlands course
Course is in great shape although maintanence on the cart paths is lacking, deep potholes should be fixed. Too many house being put in, last time we played there you had the feeling you were out in the woods now there are huge house right next some of the fairways & new roads everywhere.
secluded Challenging course
the dress code is Iame and it's a bit pricey but if you like a challenge and no one gawking around ruining your pace this is worth the price
Great day with soggy conditions
I played in the off season. It was a dry day after a week or so of rain. The fairway was very soggy. It took a couple of my balls under the sod. Can wait to play in better weather
Still challenging, but construction on & around the course has affected the maintenance.
The course used to be very well maintained and played thru a very scenic wooded area. But now housing development construction borders most of the holes that before felt like wooded area. It's on its way to becoming - "just another course surrounded by homes."
Signs of neglect are evident throughout the course, and not all can be attributed to the construction. I played in the fall, and granted, a wet time of the year; but much of the neglect is due to heavy cart traffic around tees/greens and not just thru muddy areas. But there were a lot of casual water and very spongy, soggy areas as well. The greens were in good condition and pace of play was very steady = 4 hours.
Not a fair course in my opinion.
It has not rained in more than 15 days in our area. However, more than 3/4 of the fairways on this course seem to retain lots of water. Making the fairways very soft, too soft. Major construction around this course makes for difficult walking, as there are many detours. Overall, a very nice looking course.
This course needs maintenence
Overall, the golf course has a nice layout. However, it needs attention. Lots of dried out brown dead grass and, strangely, overwatered sections. No ropes for carts, so it looks like lots of players drive them right up to the side of the greens. Play it if you get a good deal, but not worth full price.
This course was in poor shape
Baseball size rocks in bunkers, very poor condition around greens, fairways were dried and cracked , not worth the money to play course,
Course is trashed
Have not been here since Oke bought it. This used to be a wonderful beautiful course. Now, the fairways are a joke, half browned out and hard, patchy, green some places, cut randomly. The ponds and waterfall river on the back side par 5 used to be a favorite of mine. Now the waterfall river is not running, the ponds are scumy and the blackberries and weeds are taking over. Our group all agreed that the $50 fee to play was a joke, this is not a $20 course anymore. Played Whispering Firs the next day, it was twice the course and cost $19... Stay away.
Good course needs love
I have played this couse many time but this was worst shape I have experienced. Areas were browned out and they had GUR in the fairways. The rough around the greens was either bone dry or fluffy. Greens were in good shape but slow. They are building many new houses and have removed a lot of trees. There is also dust flowing accross the course from the construction.
good course except for earth moving equipment noise throughout...
I have golfed here before and thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful trees and rolling fairways..It has been 7 years and unfortunately the massive building of homes and roads have spoiled the beauty and peacefulness of this course. The constant noise of bulldozers and heavy equipment convinced us that we will probably not return. We witnessed at least 3 100 ft fir trees fall and be stripped of their limbs..So sad..
Good Layout with challenging greens.
Well maintained course thats fun to play. The greens are my favorite part of the course. All have there own unique shape with multiple tiers. Not as forgiving as the links course off the tee, but is the better overall course of the two.
This course has a challenging layout
Beautiful rolling fairwayswith fast undulated greens and lots of elevation changes. That's what I like about this course
80 degrees and great golf
As usual the Woodlands was a pleasure to play. The greens were tricky, but very fair. The fairways held the ball in play and the lie was, for the most part, always good if not excellent. I like the tall trees surounding this course compared to the Links course which if totally open. True, the Woodlands course is being invaded by home sites being cut out of the property, but enough trees seem to be left to keep the woodsy atmosphere intact. Love the entire complex. What a great 36 hole day. Front and back 18's are totally different experiences!
Very well maintained
Great challenging course that's makes you hit your spots. Greens were in excellent condition and rolled true, and stayed consistent.
Fun golf for all ages .
A fun and mostly easy course to play. Try this one during the week ,as it gets busy with the locals during the weekend. One area that could use improvement here would be to organize groups better prior to teeing it up. I never heard anyone using the P.A. system to let golfers know that they are next etc.. Good service, pleasant people in the snack area, even the Marshall was nice to talk with. Give them a try this year and enjoy a round with friends.
Challenging course with some very difficult holes to deal with and over come.
Will plan to play this later this spring. I like to play a different course every week and there are many to choose from in the puget sound area.
I keep coming back.
Fun track. Some long holes but a good selection of risk/reward hole also. I am always trying new courses but keep coming back to Vicwood/Meriwood. Oops now I'm dating myself. I meant Links/Woodland.
Really fun course.
We golfed this course on a weekday and it was great. Speed of play was appropriate and the holes, while challenging at times, were fun. It is a course that we would definitely golf again.
Good course
Love the course. Will play again. Great location. Great condition.
