Golf Advisor: Top 25 Most Improved U.S. Golf Courses (2017 #18)
Reviews
Slow play
Very slow play. Had golfers playing from wrong tees. To much talking and not enough play. Course was in good condition with some wet places. Greens were coming Bach very nice putting.
Gets better and better everyday…
This course has made leaps and bounds over the last few months. Still some growing to do but, the right spots are in great shape!!!
Stalled recovery
3rd time playing here since it reopened - 1st time since Nov '23. The course hasn't really made any significant improvement.
Fairways are patchy, off the fairway is a minefield. Greens were pretty furry and slow.
Overall, it was disappointing to not see any significany improvement since November.
Subject to change with the weather...
I played this course because the picture looked like it was a little dry, and for the last several weeks, central Florida has been that way, so I was looking for a course where the ball would roll some. The course, both fairways and greens, has a lot of contours. In wet weather there are a lot of places where the contours take the ball that I suspect would be muddy, but in the current dry conditions, playing the ground game and feeding the ball to spots in the fairway and on the green was a lot of fun. They are conserving water (which is nice in Florida where they usually over water). As a consequence...right now the rough is thin and dry (your results may vary depending on recent weather).
I had a blast...it is a great thinking course. Pick where you want the ball to end up...backtrack to where it will land, and figure out how to feed it to where you want it...it's very much like links golf. The bunkers, and firm (currently at least) greens, require some thought on approach angles and lofts.
As with most courses, they don't manage sprinkler coverage very well so many of the bunkers are hard packed (mostly around the green). It's a little ironic that you can play great explosion shots from fairway bunkers where you're trying to catch mostly ball, and have to chunk and run in bunkers around the green, but hey...it makes you get creative.
Coming from Kissimmee, this is a bit of a drive (45 minutes), but, when it's dry...this will be one of the top area courses on my list of places to play.
Played this track many times over the years, always a good time, I like the layout. Course is suffering now....rough is hard and grass scarce. However good value, greens are pretty good and maybe with time and money it will be back. Having said all this we will play again this year before we go home. Good value.
Fairways
The fairways were not good. A lot of sand on the fairways. Not bunker. A lot of weeds also. Some greens were good
Improving
Played Sunday. Usually Sundays are always going to be a little slower. This was absurd. 5 hours and 40 minutes. They have no one monitoring the course. Not surenif the started that way but there was at least one group of five people holding everything up. 2 of my playing partners left after 9 holes. Won't go back.
Course layout is strong. Course conditions are improving. Very slow play continues to be a problem. Five hour round. No ranger and multiple fivesomes.
Golf is returning
Good value for a round. Course is still in rough condition but is getting better every week. Can’t wait to return
Stoneybrook West
Great layout in tough condition. Team is doing a great job bringing it back. However, fairways, rough and areas around the greens still need a lot of work. For the price, there are better courses in the area. I will play it periodically to check on the progress. It use to be one of my go to courses. I am hoping it comes back to its former shape.
Work in progress
Course getting better by the day, finally washrooms supplies are adequate.
Tee boxes are in good condition, greens are perfect! Fairways still have lots of work to bring course back to where it was before it closed!
Eh
I expected more from a course that’s been shut down for a few years. There was a lot of ground under repair and the greens were super slow. $59 on a Wednesday morning is okay. Probably should’ve been around $40-$45. If you’re just looking to get out, relax, and have some fun this is a good place to do it. Just don’t expect nice conditions. You get what you pay for… kinda…
Great Value!
Nice course. Apparently just reopened. Fairways and greens were in very good condition. Very scenic with lots of water features but water doesn't always come into play. Challenging. Good value compared to area which is overpriced. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Returned for 2nd round.
Beth's Burger Bar nearby is a must!
Course is improving
The course is definitely playable; the greens are in great shape and run fast. The tee boxes are good and the fairway is playable even though there are some bumpy spots, bare spots and crab grass. It’s a good value for the money and the course has a nice layout.
Great layout
The course is improving since it reopened. Greens were a little hard & fast, but rolled pretty true.
Needs Work but still nice course
My understanding that course just reopened in the Fall of 2023 after several years of being closed. Greens are in great condition and were rolling pretty quick. Fairways do need some attention as there were some bare areas or very thin grass.
Tee boxes were not too bad, pretty level and no issue finding a spot to tee the ball up between the tee markers.
Will play again before heading home to Ontario.
Not great
I’ve played most of the public courses in central Florida and this one was toward the bottom of the list. Greens were absolutely abysmal. Fairways were okay enough and a couple holes were pretty unique in layout but overall just in terrible shape.
