NEW OWNER HAS DONE A GREAT JOB
Played the course for the first time in 1 year. I couldn't believe how much better the course conditions were. The new owner has replaced all the greens, maintained the fairways, & replaced all the sand in the bunkers. The course's "bones" are great. It was designed by Peter Jacobson & Jim Hardy. It's slope rating is 131, fair but challenging. The fairways are generous, but the terrain is hilly, & the greens have subtle slopes. Looking forward to playing the course again.
Needs Work
This course has been in bad shape for quite a while. If you can get out after a good rain the course plays extremely well, but otherwise the fairways and tee boxes can be rock hard. Apparently it just sold to a new owner, so hopefully he can bring some life to this beautifully designed course.
Avoid this course
Sad, sad, sad. The former home of Baylor Men's and Women's golf teams, both have abandoned playing the course. Peter Jacobson design is without a doubt the best designed and possibly the most scenic in all of central Texas. It has all the makings for a wonderful golfing experience.
Unfortunately, since present ownership purchased the course a few years ago, the course has become the worst course I have ever played. They do not employ a full time golf course superintendent. Course conditions are atrocious. Weeds everywhere. Lack of water is obvious. The traps have not been worked in months, possibly years. Those who play the course on a regular basis simply drop balls out the trap rather than play a shot from the bunker. Greens are dying. Fairways rock hard. Most important, management could care less about course conditions. Management does not seem to have a clue about running and maintaning a golf course and, if you complain you are told not to come back. The golf professional tries hard but cannot overcome very poor management.
There is virtually nothing in the pro shop so if you do make a mistake and decide to play this course, come well equiped. At the time I played there were no brand name golf balls for sale, no gloves - but plenty of used balls for a $1 each.
It is not often that a person cannot find something good to say about a golf course. Not true with this one - except the golf pro tries but has his hands tied. Avoid spending money to play this course. You will be very disappointed. Bad ownership, bad conditions and management seems to care less about its customers.
Needs Professional Help
This course has the potential of being great, I got to play with the regular members and they said the course has beef going downhill fast, the owner needs to pay for professional help on the course
Will return soon
Excellent pace of play (3 hr 15 min). Great course that presents multiple styles of holes in varying difficulties. Overall great experience and would highly recommend to others.
good golf course
this is a long course but if you play the white tips a solid golfer should shoot in the 90's
If you play the blue or gold tips you better be able to hit a good drive
Challenging but manageable
Great course. I have been traveling to Waco a couple of years and just discovered this course. Great course and in pretty good shape
Good value
Played on a 7 am hot deal. Staff very friendly and the course was in good condition especially since the last month the weather hammered them. Greens have some poa coming up but rolled very well
Twin Rivers Golf
I really enjoyed playing this course. You can hit some long shots with a driver because the ball will run forever. Started on the whites and we had to move back to the blues. I look forward to playing it again.
A fine average golf course to play
A very average golf course. I could neither recommend it, nor slander it. Clearly worth the $17 I paid, but would not pay more than $25. Texas had a lot of rain and I was informed by the staff that the front nine was closed and that I had to play the back nine. Then I noticed that the front nine was open - lot's of locals playing it while I was forced to replay the back. The courses reputation for enforcing its prominently displayed signs that they can refuse service to anyone they choose caused me to shrug my shoulders and play a better 2d try at the back. Greens were acceptable. Fairways rolled long.
This is a Homer course
Unless you wear Baylor colors don't show up early. We were rudely greeted and "Told we were not wearing the Right colors". We were circled 7 to 8 times. When I got out to ask what was going on I was told " I wasn't wearing the right Colors" I just happen to be wearing a fleece jacket that was Orange with University of Texas logo on it and a UT hat. I couldn't believe what I had heard so I asked again. Mr Bruce Meador repeat his statement. The cops were called and Mr Meador informed us we could not play the course. Money was refunded, we left. It is not unusually to show up an hour to an hour and a half early to stretch, hit balls and putt. Very Rude would not recommend this place doesn't matter how good the course is.
Don't Miss
Best of its category . 100 miles from Dallas but worth it. Baylor golf team's home course along beautiful section of creek from Lake Waco . Pick your tee up to 7500 yds and go for it . Very nice routing , good variety of holes , brutes and strategists , and in the best dormant condition I've seen this winter . Not sure how much play it gets but we were alone early morning . Staff friendly and helpful and course is all you want .
Much better than nearby Cottonwood Creek but you could play both in same day .
Staff take care of customers
Number one place to play golf. I drive from Killeen to play this golf course. The grass and brush is keep cut, so you don't loose to many balls. I hate spending my time looking for my balls. I want to play golf. That speeds up everybody's time. The staff works with you on any issues asin changing my golf date. The day we were to golf the temperature was 41 degrees. To cold to play so they let me move my date to the next day. That was awesome. I know how important it is to put the customer first and they did that with me.
Excellent course - Try to Play without 30mph Wind!
What a great course! The greens were rolling at around 12, but with a consistent 20-25 mph wind and gusts of 35-40 mph it was quite difficult. We loved it. It reminded me of playing in Scotland. Drive up and take a look with blind shots or you will lose your ball. Hit an iron off the Par 5 10th hole (the first Par 5 on the back). The greens were exceedingly difficult given the wind. You just cannot be above the hole. It had rained hard the day before and some bunkers had standing water, but the course is excellent. We did not use any facilities - we just played. We WILL go back. Booked with GolfNow made it such a deal. Very good course.
Great course for winter conditions
Course was in great shape and played fairly fast Greens were nice
Good price, good time
Found a hot deal mid day and jumped on it! Course is rebounding and is getting better and better! Lots of rain the day before made sand traps water hazards and the parts that weren't under water were washed out. Greens are coming back well and fairways were nice. I will golf this course again!
Nice round of golf
I was paired up with 3 others for a very enjoyable round of golf. The course has some great holes that require precise shots. Overall the course is in good shape considering how many rounds are played here.
nice golf corse
Good place to play golf. And friendly staff. Green were in good shape.
nice tough course
Great grass from tee box to green. Perfect weather
both ball and I got wet this round
We got a little rain on us during back nine, lost a few balls to the water gods but all an all the course was in better than average for this time of year. Greens were great, fairways where a little hard but lack of rain was the problem. Part 3 tee boxes were a little beat up, but all others were great! Love the par fives, with there wide open fairways your really hit the ball without worrying about out of bounds. This also makes it easier for shorter 3 shots. But beware most of the par 4 holes are on the tight side with lots of oak trees that WILL put you in jail really fast. Over all had a great time.
