Inner-city Jaunt
Good course with a great pro shop pro, friendliest man you'll meet in any pro shop. Silly rules upstairs more suited to clubs far more prestigious than this. Course layout is very haphazard, with some holes too long and others too short. Lots of cross play, when it would be easier to move tee boxes to more strategic locations. Regardless, given its very central location and tremendously undulating terrain, it is a hood value course with really well-kempt greens. A credit to any course with as low a rating as this, is to at least get the greens right, which it does. The pin positions were ridiculous, more suited to putt putt courses than a true golf course. This is still a very challenging and worthwhile course, so I'd always give it at least one go. Just be prepared to have a high round if you're not swinging well, like I did. I will play this course again and recommend it to others too.
Kingsthorpe Northampton
After 2 days of rain we expected there to be some water on the course but this wasn't the case. Th e course was in superb condition both the fairways and the greens. Everyone at the course was very welcoming and delightful, in all an excellent day.
A challenging course
A tough course for high handicap players. The greens pace varied, some v difficult pin positions, greens unforgiving easy to 3 or 4 put - difficult to read. Although a relatively short course some holes very hilly and some steep climbs even with an electric trolley. Nevertheless a worthwhile course to play occasionally.
A little gem and amazing staff
I have been playing golf for 40 years
My father was Golf Secretary at a lovely course in Derbyshire and I was captain of Dorking golf club I have a handicap of 9.
I have never been to a golf club where the pro and the members were so welcoming friendly and cared, the Pro met us at the 18th ask " how it was?"
The course was good coming out of winter faiways good a lovely parkland course.
Some of the holes were a bit close to each other but then we were right in the heart of the town of Northampton.
Highly recommended THANKYOU to all at Kingsthorpe golf club 9/10
Who knows I may even join
Quite Short and Very Tight
Kingsthorpe GC is situated right in the heart of Northampton and surrounded on virtually all sides by houses making this course short and particularly compact. So much so that there are a number of tee boxes where you are close to the green you have just left. Very close to the green you have just left. In fact so close to the green you have just left as to think, there's a high chance a wayward ball is going to come winging its way into your tee box ... and often does. Cries of "fore" are more common on this course than any other I can ever recollect.
The tee boxes of the 3rd, 5th and 7th and the greens of the 2nd and 6th are probably all within a half football field of each other making that particular part of the course surreal if you all happen to be there together. Very social, but very different. If you don't like many eyes watching you then this is not he course for you.
It's quirky, quite hilly and very tight as mentioned but a lot of these things adds to it's appeal. It's a gift of a course for the long straight hitters with the 3rd, 10th and 11th very driveable and maybe the 1st, 8th, 16th and 17th if you really catch one out the middle of the bat and get a good bounce, if you have a 330yd drive in you of course.
The greens were in very good condition for saying it was the last day of Oct and very well pitch repaired so well done to the members. No laziness here.
Unfortunately there is only 1 par 5 but as mentioned plenty of scoring opportunity on these very short par 4s. Criticisms this weekend were the slow pace of play as there was a society and lack of equipment to suck up the million dropped Autumn leaves making the ball hard to find on 2 occasions even when on the fairway but obviously this will only be for a short period of time.
We managed to get this course for a fantastic price off one of the golf apps therefore making this exceptional VFM.
Members were friendly, the course is tight, greens excellent, superb VFM and bags of character make this a fun course to play and topped off with a bar/balcony overlooking the 18th where you can virtually whisper down to the golfers you're that close. Very good for society banter!
All in all, good fun.
Round 76. Handicap 3.
