Greens were not the best as they had just been treated and were covered in sand
Widnes golf course
Paid in full with GolfNow…3 holes not open and 3 temporary greens not told this till we arrived..
Decent value for money
Slow round due to business. Course not in anywhere near as good condition as it has been (even allowing for winter conditions) but good value for money on Sunday for £18
Disappointed
Booked and paid online. Got there club shop shut and noone about to check in. Made our way to the tee box 10 minuets before our tee time as they are in 10 minute slots. As one of our group teed off a lady opened window and screamed for us to sign in. Explained that the shop was closed when we got there and we had booked online and paid. I know you are meant to sign in at a course when arrive but when its closed there isnt much you can do. Made 7 of us come back around to pro shop and all sign in individually. We again explained that the shop was closed when we got there so to save a back log we would go to the tee and tee off. With all the hassle of being pulled back this now caused a queue. What we was trying to avoid. We had already called then club in advance and explained there was another player with us and we were told to play the round and pay at end when shop was back open. So to be treated like this was shocking. Very poor and not professional in the slightest.
Greens where really poor aswell. Probably the worst I have played on. They had massive squares cut out of them and filled with sand. It was like an extra bunker on the green.
Fairways was the saving grace for this clubs. Really lush and lovely to play off
Overall I was disappointed and let down by the individual staff member and the greens off the course.
Poor staff
Secretary’s attitude towards guest’s absolutely stinks
Shocking condition and prices
Played this crazy mess full of temps an closed. Avoid at all cost furious should be banned from golf now
Red Course Status
All per 3's closed
Winter tees, preferred lies on fairway, use mats.
Many temporary greens in play.
I expected and accepted the above at the beginning of play. But the 4 holes I played were waterlogged to the point that my socks were covered in mud and my feet soaking wet. Every ball plugged regardless of where it landed, temporary greens included. Spent more time looking for my ball than playing. In my opinion the course should be closed, a few of the members agreed.
Open
Despite numerous days of rain probably the only course in the North west open
Obviously very wet in patches and the greens where brilliant
Staff brilliant 👏
One to return to!
Booked this at the last minute due to a mix up at the course we had initially booked. I’ve never been here before but was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.
The tees, fairways & greens were in decent order, despite the rain that we’d had leading up to our round here. We found the greens to be true & consistent, sadly our putting wasn’t!!
On the whole I did enjoy the round & I will definitely return. The only slight negative for me was due to this being a leafy course the leaves had been blown into piles in the rough & we both became victims of this with errant tee shots & then lost balls. If we could hit it straight then there’d be no negative points!
A great day & as I’ve said, it will be a course that we will return to.
Wetter than an otters pocket.
A nice enough course but no drainage and the whole course was saturated, it felt like playing on a sponge. I can expect that during the summer months this will be a nice course, 2 of the holes were closed which was not informed when I picked up my card. Just a little TLC and drainage and this would be a very nice course.
Great course but not informed of all the Winter Changes & Closed Holes
As my above review I still give the course a good review but when booking via golf now should be informed of the winter changes…
1. No trolley’s unless winter stud tyres.
2. Not allowed to play off the fairway (move to the rough).
3. Temporary greens but placed on the fairway.
4. All Par 3’s closed.
5. Hole 8 & 9 closed.
6. Charged full price.
The course looks lovely and can see how much work had been put in and in the summer will definitely want to play, but being charged full price and not informed about any of the above is disappointing even using Golf Now we still should of been notified.
Winter golf as expected
Played here a couple of times and at a cheap price, thought we'd give it a go again.
On arrival found they were on temp greens (maybe not surprising given time of year and recent weather) and that the par 3s were closed (shame as there are 5 of them). With no pro currently at Widnes, I guess there was no way of knowing / Golf Now being able to inform you of this. We just go on with it and it wasn't too bad. Some 'greens' were just in the fairway, while some had been cut a bit. Obviously shorter course and we played some extra holes to make up for the closed par 3s, but most holes weren't too bad under foot and we almost had the course to ourselves. Variety of holes better than I remember and would like to go back again when on proper greens etc. For a pre-Christmas knock, it was fine and we had a pint in the clubhouse afterwards.
