About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Originally opened in 1988 as a private club called Crickentree, the course changed its name and opened to public when it changed ownership in 1996. The golf course is known for its beautiful setting that has everything from meandering streams to towering hardwoods. There is also a scenic 17-acre lake that comes into play on a few holes. The risk-reward layout appeals to players of all skill levels. With good course management, the rewards are plenty, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The golf course is just over 7,000 yards from the back tees, equipped with holes that will please long hitters as well as shorter, trickier holes.

Terrible course
Good thing they are closing in a week. Not worth a penny.
Love Hurts
I love to play this course because it has an exceptional architecture, it's a great value whether or not you play via Golfnow, and it's just a a fun place for golf. So I was hurt when I walked to the clubhouse to check in the other day and saw the sign announcing that the course will permanently close on July 18. I later heard that its sister course in Florence, SC will also be closing. There are other courses in our area, but I'll miss those early morning tee shots at Crickentree, the quiet beauty at that time of day at that place, the staff friendliness, and the chance to have so much fun at such a great price. Good luck and Godspeed to the staff and management.
Always a great venue
I'm grateful for golf courses like this one where you can experience a unique and challenging layout, enjoy the scenery, and have a good time without spending a lot of money. Course conditions here are as good as I've seen in the past year.
Still a good value
Fore the most part, the greens are okay and will run fairly true, but in some areas they are rough and bumpy. I imagine the recent downpours play a part in that, but some of the problem areas are chronic. Still, this is an outstanding layout and a beautiful place to play golf. GolfNow hot deals make this an exceptional value.
Good for the price
Course was decent for the price. Asked the staff what it would usually cost and they said $25 for around the same time we booked on GolfNow for less than $15 each. I prob would play here again for the GolfNow price but definitely not the $25. Layout is okay, greens were kinda muddy in parts. Fairways were decent as well. Big fan of 17 and for the Hotdeals price I would suggest to anyone.
Won't be back
I should have suspected... I pulled into the parking lot and there was one other car. The pro in the shop was very personable and answered all my questions. To make a long story short, it seemed I was the only one playing. The layout was interesting and sometimes challenging. The course was in bad shape! The tee boxes were ragged as we're the fairways and especially the greens. Might be a good place to practice, hit a few shots off each tee and hit up to the greens and pick up. I hope they get these issues resolved. I think it could be an enjoyable track.
NEGLECTED
THIS COURSE IS A GREAT T4ACK THAT HAS BEEN NEGLECTED FOR SOME TIME NOW UNFORTUNATELY! I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED PLAYING DUE TO THE TRACK, BUT EITHER THERE IS NO MONEY TO SPEND ON THE CONDITIONS OR THEY ARE ABOUT TO CLOSE. CART PATHS ARE VERY BAD WITH TREE ROOTS AND BRANCHES DOWN EVERYWHERE. THE GREENS HAD A BARE MINIMUM OF GRASS ON THEM, YES DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS THUSFAR THIS YEAR, BUT THAT MAY NOT HELP WHEN THE WEATHER BREAKS WITH THE CONDITION THEY ARE IN NOW. ITS A SHAME AS IT IS A GREAT LAYOUT!
CC of SC
New sand is very badly needed in all sand traps. If not clean them out & let the grass grow for your 2nd cut.......
Past its prime
Course in tough shape even for April.
Carts paths are in bad shape. Greens were very
early spring brown. Fairways patchy.
Staff were very polite and helpful.
Good course
Course layout, distance and rating was excellent. Grreens were in very poor shape.
Golf club of south carolina crickentree
I have played this course many times. It has less than fair greens, but the payout is one of the best around. In 2 years thus course has begun to transform into a decently maintained course. If this continues I will be joining this course as a member. 375 for the year! Soon, it will be worth it again.
Find another course
It’s been quite a long time since I have played a course in as poor of conditioner this course is. From the moment you turn onto the property, it’s apparent that they have no desire to so much as give the appearance of a clean, well kept golf club. The greens were among the worst I have ever played. Tightly” pack dirt that is obviously lacking as much moisture as itis lacking blades of actual grass. Will not return.
Great course, great value
Every couple of weeks or so I drive nearly an hour to play this course, most often via a GolfNow Hot Deal, and I will continue to do so because it is a great course to play and an exceptional value. There are several other courses that are much closer, and good values, too, but the course at Crickentree is special. Course conditions are the best I've seen in a long time, the staff are friendly and helpful, and it's just a fun and rewarding place to play.
Nice layout...needs TLC
I really like the layout of the course. However, the entire facility is in dire need of someone who knows how or cares to take care of the place. I would play it again because of the price, the fact there were not a lot of people there, and it beats paying $10 in range balls to work on your swing. This would be a great course if they would just put some work into cleaning and repairing.
Bad Course...Save your $$$
The price was low but still not worth it. The staff was ok but almost ignored us. the real problem was the course conditions. It had not rained in 4-5 days but the fairway grass was long and so were the greens. Not to mention the greens had ball marks all over and were covered in bare spots. There was mud all over the place from over watering everything.
The fairways did not have a consistent grass type but were mostly crabgrass with weeds all over too. There are not cart paths on most holes so there are trench marks from tires all over due to it being wet in low areas. Then on high ground many times you would hit the ball and leave a normal divot but get sand in your face as it was so loose below the grass.
The tee boxes were mostly loose dirt.
I went once before and had been told they were getting it back in shape but it is actually much worse now. I would not recommend anyone waste there money.
If they spent the money and got a grounds crew that knew what they were doing this could be a good course as the layout is pretty good but it is just a rundown dump at this point.
Could Be Better
This course was once a great course! Unfortunately, it's no longer the case. The greens are bumpy and appear to be on the mend. The greens are moldy. The views are great and the course needs to catch up to the surroundings. This could become the best course in the area with a little TLC, let truth be told currently not there yet. I come to this course to practice my game without being rushed.
Great course, great deal
The more I play this course, the better I like it. The course architecture is superb and the fairways are in really good shape. The regular greens fees are very reasonable, and the GolfNow Hot Deals for the course are outstanding values.
Good times
It is a very well laid out course. It does need garbage cans, ball cleaner, and towel to dry your ball at the start of every hole. People do not litter generally if there are garbages acessable. The staff was great and I am looking forward to playing again. This is a great course and the staff make it a great experience no matter what level you play at.
