Grande Dunes Resort Club
About
Golf at Grande Dunes and Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach is played on a grand scale. The course is set high on a bluff overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway, with panoramic views of the waterway and maritime forest. It's 7,618 yards, with a very difficult slope rating of 141. Five holes play along the waterway. The greens are grand, averaging 10,000 square feet with eight rotating pin placements, ensuring the course changes significantly from day to day. There is plenty of water, to be sure: the par-5 17th hole has water running down the entire left side and a moat fronting the green, for example. There are also some nice elevation changes; the par-3 14th hole has about a 65-foot drop, with the green jutting out over the waterway.

Almost worth the dough
Excellent layout conditions were excellent pace of play was my only problem. Greens fees a little high.
Not Cheap but Worth it
Obviously, the course is great. There was a little confusion about starting time, but that got corrected quickly. The layout of the course varies significantly hole to hole Which offers a new challenge every time. The greens are incredibly true and in great shape. I hit an eight iron with a great deal of loft. It hit the green and the left no Mark. Surprising! Lots of water and Greenside bunkers so if that scares you look someplace else. The staff was incredibly helpful and professional.
Not like it was
We have played the resort course many times before. The course was always in great condition and one of the best courses in Myrtle Beach. My wife and I were excited to play the (renovated) resort course since it had been over a year since we last played there. Unfortunately the course was not in great shape like it used to be. The tee boxes and greens were excellent condition, but the farways were in very poor condition. Dormant grass everywhere bare spots and very little green grass. Also the fairway grass was so thin you couldn't help but divit it. Also the course was under constuction in a lot of places and all the bathrooms were filthy and slippery wet. We were both very disappointed with the condition of the course and wish we were told that prior to playing. The staff was wonderful and we will be back at a latter date during the warmer weather to give it anther try.
Weird tee times
Seems as if they have morning and afternoon start times from front and back nine. They are as confused sending you off as the players.
Nice course but fairways are so wide it's not very challenging. Greens are huge and smooth.
Great Course
From the bag drop to the 18th green, everything was perfect.
Friendly Staff and a Great course layout.
Way to "Challenging" for Average (14.7 Index on GHIN) Golfer
This was the last of six rounds we played at Myrtle Beach and wanted this course to be the highlight of the trip.
Earliest tee time we could get was 1:13PM which meant the sun went down with three holes left. Although we had to hurry on most holes, we stayed on pace and kept up with the groups in front of us.
Additionally, we had to wait for carts to come in from the morning sessions which pushed our tee time back about 10 minutes.
Greens were extremely hard, dry, and fast.
Pin placement was similar to what you would see in a tournament. Several putts and chips in our group barely trickled past the hole and ended up rolling off the green.
Exceptionally hard to hold.
Trickery
This course had it all. Greens were rock hard but still had no roll. The fairways were wet and sloppy leaving you not a chance for a good second shot. When you did approach the green you had to walk a country mile from the cart path to the green. The cart alarm wouldn't let you get 100 yards in. The staff never gave us any information on the course, layout, restrooms (which needed some cleaning), food/beverage, etc. The pro shop had a lot to offer but the pricing was a tad high. We picked out a top to buy, and was then told, "it looks like it is $49.99, but it is $149.99". Thought that was odd and proceeded not to spend any more money at a facility that wasn't accommodating at all.
Quite the experience
If you’re looking for a golf experience with amazing amenities, look no further, this is the place. This course is a beautiful layout that is in excellent conditions.
I researched the course after receiving recommendations from Mr. Short Game and The Traveling Golfer. I’m glad I acted on their recommendations.
My visit started with a pleasant greeting from Shane. Shane was happy to help us get out early because of Tropical Storm Ophelia that was approaching off the coast.
When we finished our round we were excited to buy souvenirs in the pro shop. The pro shop has a great assortment of products that represent the Grande Dunes. We were greeted by Caleb from the staff and he was top notch with his assistance. Not only was Caleb extremely helpful with helping us find souvenirs, but he also helped assist us on places to eat in the area.
Summary of my experience, one of the best experiences I have ever had. Yes, it hurt my wallet, but now I have an experience that I will never forget.
