The Georgia Club - Chancellors Red/Black Course
Played On 10/26/2016Perfect mix of challenge, fair, and excitement!
There is a reason the Georgia Club is consistently rated the number one golf course in the Atlanta/Athens area on golf advisor. The staff was welcoming and accommodating before I even walked into the clubhouse to check-in. The practice area and range were top notch with lots of space to prepare for your round. The course is challenging with some significant elevation changes. There is forgiveness throughout the course that allows errant shots to be played which helps the mid to high handicappers. There are several doglegs both left and right that have considerable rewards for cutting off corners and having shorter second shots. The greens were rolling quite fast, at least double digits on the stimp meter.
Prices to play are on the higher end but that seems to help keep the number of golfers lower on most days, so pace of play typically isn't an issue.
Summit Chase Country Club
Played On 10/10/2016Uneventful course but quality conditions.
Summit Chase is a full-service country club with pool, tennis, and big clubhouse but the golf course just isn't exciting. The course conditions are pretty good, namely the greens as they're very fast and roll true. However, the overall layout in my opinion is anything but memorable. Lots of straight par-4s. The par-3s are nothing to talk about. The back nine is tougher than the front but there really isnt anything that makes me want to come back and play here again.
Sunday River Golf Club
Played On 10/01/2016Autumn golf in Sunday River, Maine is breath-taking!
Wow, this course completely epitomizes what fall golf in Maine should be. The log cabin clubhouse and pro shop as you drive in fits appropriately into the side of the large mountain that this golf course is built upon. The driving range was well-manicured and practice putting green was true to the course.
However, the views of this course are what makes it so incredible. The pictures truly don't do it justice. More than half of the holes had 180 degree views of the Mahoosuc mountain range. The views came on many of the elevated tee boxes or greens that were raised high above the fairway. It was hard for our group of 4 not to take pictures on every single hole as every tee box felt like a postcard!
The Sunday River layout was spectacular with lots of variety and elevation change throughout the course. This however, creates for a very difficult course as there isnt a lot of room for forgiveness. Anything off the fairways can quickly disappear into heavily wooded areas and extreme drop offs. You can't be long on any green here either as we saw one hole that had a back pin location that was only 6 feet from a red stake!
The course was in perfect shape and the greens were rolling extremely fast. I loved playing this course and I hope it's not the last time I get the chance to come here. Fall golf is Maine including Sunday River should be on every golfers bucket list.
Traditions of Braselton Golf Club
Played On 09/29/2016Traditions has a nice country club feel!
You aren't going to be blown away once you walk off #18 at Traditions of Braselton, but I personally really enjoy this course. The course is overall quite challenging but is definitely score-able if you put the ball in the right spots. The houses are distant enough from the holes that they really wont affect play. The fairways are wide for the most part, but the rough is pretty deep here so be sure to put a premium on straight tee balls. #18 is my least favorite hole on the course, honestly just hit a 4 iron off the tee and play it safe. The greens were in good condition, very soft and receptive but still putted moderately fast and true. I am not a member but I have considered joining the combo here with Hamilton Mill. Pace of play at both these locations are typically real slow and one of the main reasons I hesitate to join. We had the first tee time of the day so we didn't have an issue!

Providence Club
Played On 09/23/2016Best golf deal in the area!
The Providence Club is always a good course to play especially because of the price of a round. They constantly have deals on golfnow.
This course is one of my favorites around and Ill make the 45 minute drive any day of the week because of the layout. They have a variety of holes, particularly a multiple of risk/reward holes. Theres a very drivable downhill par-4 thats fun to pull driver on. Number 4 is a par-4 that doglegs left over water, so the braver you are, the more water you can cover, and get closer to the green or maybe on the green! Lots of varying distances on the par-3's and most of the par-5s can be reachable in 2. There is quite a bit of OB though throughout the course due to the neighborhood but overall I really like playing this course. Love the variety and risk/reward holes!
Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club - North Course
Played On 09/11/2016Good change of pace course at the Innisbrook resort
The Innisbrook resort has 4 courses and this course is one of the 2 short courses although it still plays to a par 71. If you are here to play multiple courses, the North course is a good change of pace from the longer Island and Copperhead courses. I believe the back tees max out around 6k yards. However, with all of that said, the North course is not easy by any means. Lots of trees and dog legs to navigate here and although there are multiple par-4's that are under 300yards, going for any of these greens can lead to extremely high scores...it's a fun course but if you can only play one while you're in Palm Harbor, choose Copperhead or at least the Island course.
University of Georgia Golf Course
Played On 09/09/2016Big time pro course with all the golf amenities!
Let me first say I'm a die-hard Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket and I hesitated just to play a course with "UGA" in the title. However, I may now regret never trying this course earlier in life as this course is worth every penny, no matter what team you root for.
This is the home course for the UGA golf team and has hosted several web.com tour events so you know it's not you're typical muni course. Once you step onto the first tee box to the last green, you realize why some of the best golfers in the world come from UGA. Every tee box is flat and seemingly perfectly manicured. The fairways and rough are quite distinguished so being in the fairway is a premium. There was hardly a blade of grass that wasn't trimmed properly and the greens were definitely fast and rolled true. The course layout is a lot of fun with plenty of challenges and it doesn't favor any style of golfer. Working the ball both ways is the only way to go low here, but a straight ball will be just fine!
Be sure to take full advantage of the courses practice facilities as they are on par with any high level pro course, from the massive putting greens and extensive chipping green with multiple pin flags to hit to, to the well marked driving range that seemed to have grass that could rival most courses fairways. Don't let the name fool you, this is a pro course and I can't wait to come back and play here again!
We are always thankful for the positive feedback we get from our GolfAdvisor players, but to get such a great review from a Georgia Tech fan is awesome! We are glad you enjoyed your round so much and hope to see you back soon!
Chattahoochee Golf Club
Played On 09/01/2016Great course to play for locals!
This course is truly a full golf facility. Chattahoochee has several teaching pros with state-of-the-art flight monitors to go along with the indoor/outdoor practice areas. The pro shop is stocked and the clubhouse is quite large. If I lived in the area, I would probably join this club. As for the course, it has a good variety of holes and the greens roll true and real fast. Overall I really enjoyed the course and I will definitely be back.
Bear's Best Atlanta
Played On 08/11/2016Bears Best has outdone itself and taken it up a notch!
Over the past 4 or 5 years Ive played Bears Best at least 2 dozen times, both in the winter in the heat of summer and I can tell you right now, this is the BEST condition this course has ever been, at least since I have been playing here. The fairways are beautifully manicured and tight lies are everywhere, the greens are rolling as fast and as true as a course at this quality and caliber should be, and the facilities are just as nice. If I have heard correctly, there is a new superintendent as of 2016 and he's clearly shaking things up and bringing this quality course up to par, pardon the pun. If you find a deal to play here, its worth your time!
Thank you for your review! We are glad that you enjoy our course and continue to come back continuously. We strive to make sure each guest has a great experience. We look forward to seeing you soon for your next round!
Chateau Elan Golf Club - Woodlands Course
Played On 08/03/2016Woodlands is a tough test of golf! The name says it all!
Don't let the scorecard length fool you, this course is tough no matter what tees you chose. We played the tips, but at 6700 yards, we felt like we played a course over 7000 yards. The key to the Woodlands course is you must drive the ball well off the tee. The one factor that really separates the Woodlands course from its sister course, Chateau, is, as the name implies, the woods. There is trouble off most tees both left and right and being able to work the ball both ways is key to having a low score here.
zbuechner4 - Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review about your experience with us! We hope we will have the pleasure of seeing you back at the Woodlands course soon!
Country Club of Roswell
Played On 07/25/2016Well kept course with all the private club amenities
Cc of Roswell is really everything you would expect in a private club. Clubhouse is spacious, recently updated (with more renovations on the way I hear) with ball rooms, beautiful large bar area, outdoor seating and nicely kept locker room, fitness room, and amenities. The clubs practice facility is quite nice and I enjoyed warming up for my round here. Chipping area has room for about a 80 yard max shot, the putting green is quite large and rolls true and identical to the course, but the driving range is off mats majority of the time, however the alignment sticks at each range station made for a nice touch. The course itself is definitely one I could play on a lot, great mixture of holes, long and short, downhill and uphill, lots of water to carry on certain holes. Really a great test of golf. Be cautious as there are a handful of blind tee shots. My only complaint about this course which is totally a personal preference is a lack of a short, drivable par-4, but that's just my opinion. Otherwise the course is in perfect condition and the greens roll fast and true!
Woodmont Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/21/2016Truly a member for a day! Loved this course.
Although it seems remote when you are driving up to this course in Canton, once you arrive, I was immediately impressed by the well kept grounds and the large clubhouse. You can also see a number of holes as you drive in which always gets me excited to play! The practice areas are extensive but not overwhelming and the carts were my favorite part as they have some sort of fancy brown leather seats in all of them which is a nice feature that I've never seen before. The course is definitely fair and can be quite challenging on certain holes. I really enjoyed the layout, but it's definitely a course that your score would improve after a few rounds and some course knowledge. I would love to come back here again as it is definitely a country club atmosphere as there was multiple groups, old and young playing cards or having lunch in the recently updated clubhouse restaurant.
Callahan Golf Links
Played On 06/25/2016Good Muni Course on a hot day!
Callahan is an old farm that has been turned into a nice little golf course. The layout is average in my opinion but was definitely in good shape. The greens rolled very true and the fairways and tee boxes were well maintained. There are some really fun holes here but most of the golf course is right in front of you, not many blind shots either. It doesn't play too long even from the back tees at about 6600 yards but it is definitely challenging. A second round through this course would definitely improve scores as there are some hidden traps and hazards. Otherwise, a solid golf course and I may come back!
Sable Oaks Golf Club
Played On 06/13/2016Only played the front but good track!
Played this track on Monday for the first time and the back nine was closed due to aerifications which was no big deal since they let us play the front 9 twice for a 9-hole rate. This course is tough though, rough is high and shaping the ball off the tee is a must...from the back 2 sets of tees at least. I really enjoyed the par-3's here, lots of change of elevation and overall a good, fun memorable course. Only wish it had some better deals as it can get a little pricey at times.
Val Halla Golf & Recreation Center
Played On 06/10/2016Does not Disappoint!!
Val Halla is an incredible golf course and is in pristine condition. With all that said, this course is quite difficult and is not forgiving at all! The rough is really high and getting your ball in the fairway should be your goal on every hole. There are also quite a few quirky or blind tee shots and most players would improve their scores just by playing the course a few times. The driving range is super short and they only allowed irons cause the back of the net lines hole 7 or 8 I think. Otherwise, i really liked the course and I will for sure be back!
Riverside Golf Course - North Course
Played On 06/08/2016Simple, open course but fun to play!
Riverside is a GREAT value. The course is a simple layout but still exciting enough to keep you interested. The course is very wide open and forgiving which leads to good pace of play (for the most part) and plenty of opportunities to make birdies and go low. The greens aren't that quick but they're rolling true and pleasing to the eye. There are several drivable par-4s even from the back tees. Lots of fun and there are a ton of specials on golf now and if you walk the course.
The River Club Golf Course
Played On 05/24/2016Beautiful private course and lives up to expectations!
This golf course is a very private, exclusive club as it sits in the "#1 luxury community" in the metro-Atlanta area. The clubhouse looks like a mountain cabin, although it is massive and absolutely incredible. The practice facilities are VERY nice and it makes me wish I could just come here to practice. The greens were pretty fast but rolled true and the course was pretty flawless otherwise. I got to play here for the Miles Mason charity tournament with a scramble format but would love to play it again sometime and see what my real score could look like at a top venue such as this. If you ever get a chance to play here, definitely do not pass it up cause it might be your only chance!
Atlanta Athletic Club - Highlands Course
Played On 04/11/2016AAC is a special place!
Wow, Atlanta Athletic Club is incredible. Everything here is way more than I expected. The clubhouse is massive yet still holds its intimate history. The practice facilities are second to none in Georgia. And the course couldn't have been in more pristine condition. As expected, the greens were rolling at PGA tournament speeds which only adds to the difficulty of the course. The quality and condition of the course is top notch. Although we only played the Highlands course (home of the 2001 and 2011 PGA Champs), Ive heard some actually prefer the non-PGA course!
Its quite exclusively private so I hope I get the chance to play here again someday!
Country Club of the South
Played On 04/11/2016Beautiful golf course in a good neighborhood!
CC of the South was built by Jack Nickalus and was supposedly going to be the cream of the crop for private country clubs. It held a few Champions Tour events back in the 90s I think but the club struggled for a while until Clubcorp bought it out a number of years ago and let me say, while I'm not a member, I've been fortunate to play it several times over the past few years and this is the best I've seen this course! The greens were absolutely the best around, super fast and true, the fairways and the rough were well manicured and most of the tee boxes were smooth, level and very green. With all of that said, the course is very challenging, lots of out of bounds due to the surrounding houses and wooded areas. There isn't a lot of room for error around this course. But the course can be really fun with its elevation changes, large hills that can help (or hurt) certain balls in the fairways and the variety of holes. Definitely a great club in a high end area of metro Atlanta.
Hey "zbuechner4" thank you so much for the positive review! We are sure any golfer reading this review will find it informative and helpful. We appreciate you making the drive out to the course and hope to see you again soon!
