Hamilton Mill Golf Course
Played On 09/04/2015Club Corp is doing some great work here, love this course!
Recently played a round here on a Friday morning and we loved it. Pace of play was about 4 hours. The course is in perfect shape right now and the greens are rolling so well. Club corp recently bought out canongate and has spent a chunk of change renovating the clubhouse here and it just opened and it looks like a 5-star restaurant/banquet hall now.
Anyways, the Fred Couples designed course can be tricky but there's lots of very entertaining holes to have fun with. The first two par-3's are 2 of my favorite holes to play in Gwinnett.
Player tips: keep tee balls left on no 2 as the hill will kick everything right. Be sure to keep your tee shots right on no 5 as the tree will block your approach. The par-3 8th plays shorter than you realize so be careful.
St. Marlo Country Club
Played On 09/02/2015Top Public Course in Atlanta!
St. Marlo is a great public course in the Atlanta area, might be one of the best! Visually stunning with renaissance-era-like stone work that lines the course. This course definitely plays difficult and you can get in trouble quickly. Might be a little pricey but its definitely a good test of golf!
Cobblestone Golf Course
Played On 08/08/2015Must be able to move the ball both ways!
Cobblestone is a good track with pretty good conditions. However, you can get in a lot of trouble quickly if you cant move the ball both ways as there are many doglegs. You rarely hit driver if you hit over 260yds. The course is very scenic and the greens are so close to being excellent. They are still just a little bit fuzzy.
Standard Club, The
Played On 07/13/2015Ideal course to be private and what a pleasure to play!
Played this course in a stroke play tournament for the 2nd time and I really love the course. Lots of variety and shot making can be very creative. I like the ball to draw which helps some but isn't required to go low. I will say this course is a hidden gem as its in the heart of Johns Creek and Duluth. But once you get on the course, you'd never know as its pretty well surrounded but trees and scenery. I would love to play this course more often but it's pretty exclusively private. With that said, if you get a chance to play it, do it, it's definitely worth a shot!
Creekside at Golf Club of Georgia, The
Played On 07/06/2015Hidden gem but VERY exclusive private club!
I have lived in and played golf in Atlanta all my life and never knew this course existed until recently when my friend invited me to play as a guest of a member. HOLY SMOKES, this place is hidden so well and is apparently a home course for the GT golf team. They are undergoing a ton of renovations right now but the place is outstanding and hosts several high profile tournaments and a few USGA qualifiers. The course is quite challenging but is in perfect condition. The back 9 runs along Lake Windward and has some beautiful, scenic holes! It is a very exclusive private club so if you get an offer to play here, jump on it! I would rank the quality of this course one of the best in Georgia!
Providence Club
Played On 06/11/2015Open course that plays well for average golfers
Even though the course is open and well maintained doesn't mean it isn't a fun and challenging course. The greens are in perfect shape right now and are
Rolling fast! I'm a 8-9 handicap and shot a 74 here. Love it, just wish it was closer
Chateau Elan Golf Club - Legends Course
Played On 05/30/2015Legends lives up to its name and is the best of the 4 courses at Chateau!
The Legends course is the best of the 4 courses at Chateau Elan, hands down. The course is always in good shape and usually not crowded. My favorite part of the course is that it was designed as replicas as some of the famous holes around the world, most notably Augusta Nationals' par-3 12th and par-5 13th. Otherwise, the course does play fairly difficult and keeping the ball straight is key to getting a decent score here. Expect a few strokes above your handicap at this course as there are no easy birdie holes!
TPC Sugarloaf - Stables/Meadows Course
Played On 03/31/2015TPC is top notch and very fun to play!
I played TPC Sugarloaf 2 weeks before the Champions Tour event at Sugarloaf and I could not have asked for a better course in better condition. I can say that for the average golfer like me, my scores go down when I play a course like this because the fairways and even most of the rough is in such pristine condition that its hard to find a bad lie! This course is such a fun challenge though; theres a par 3 entirely over water, a drivable uphill par-4, and the par-5 18th can be tempting with a risk/reward downhill second shot over water. The course lives up to the TPC family name as the clubhouse and practice facilities are elaborate and as immaculate as the course. I could've spent easily an entire day practicing with the setup they had.
This was for a charity golf tournament.
How do you get tee times here when it's private?
True Blue Golf Club
Played On 03/01/2015Takes 2nd place to Caledonia.
I know Caledonia and True Blue are sister courses but True Blue is a step down from Caledonia. Still a fun course with plenty of risk/reward shots. Holes 3/4/18 could be some of the hardest holes I have played. Lots of water on the par-3's, but a good test of golf! Not for the beginner golfer though. I would also recommend moving up your normal tees. This course can play VERY long. The driving range is nice and open and it doesn't have mats (which I loved). Limited scenery compared to Caledonia, but overall a good course and it really was in great condition!
Caledonia Golf & Fish Club
Played On 02/27/2015Beautiful views on a picturesque plantation!
This place is everything you would want in a golf club! You drive into a perfectly manicured entrance to a long, narrow, Magnolia-tree-lined road towards the clubhouse. Almost feels like driving down Magnolia Drive at Augusta National. The clubhouse is a renovated plantation house and has incredible views of the 18th green. The people are first-class and make you feel very welcome. There is no driving range but the practice facility MORE than makes up for that. You can hit almost 100yd shots out there. Greens rolled absolutely perfectly (even at the end of Feb). Everything is overseeded in the colder months which makes it nice to play on green grass. The 150yd markers are creatively made as huge birdhouses so it gives it a very natural feel. Loved this place!
Country Club of Gwinnett
Played On 06/02/2014Everything was perfect except the greens.
This course is a really great track. Wish we would've played the back tees cause it is really short though. My only complaint was that the greens were not rolled flat enough. It seemed like they were so close to having really nice greens if they would roll them a few times. Otherwise, great challenging course. However, you have to learn to hit some type of draw off the tee because the majority of holes were dogleg lefts. We would come back if/when we knew the greens were improved.
The Chimneys Golf Course
Played On 03/20/2014Excellent course, incredible value!
Greens were true, just a little wet from all the rain but I definitely will be coming back.
Loved this course!
Innsbruck Golf Club
Played On 8/20/2013Scenic but very tight.
Wish this course had more forgiving rough areas. Several of our shots were hardly off the fairway yet were completely lost. One ball we lost on the rough just before the fairway on a dogleg because it was so overgrown. Always impressed with the elevation changes and scenery but the punishment for hitting a ball left or right is way too high. Wish it was more open so we could enjoy our round more. With our somewhat skilled golfing crew we were, we had way too many lost balls.
Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club
Played On 5/5/2013This course is so nice and yet so inexpensive to play!
I've played my share of goat tracks and Ive also had the privilege to play a number of PGA tour courses. And I must say that Royal Lakes is up there with some of the nicest courses out there. Especially since you can play at such a great price! It will definitely give you a challenge with some very scenic holes. Thoroughly enjoyed this course.
The Hooch Golf Club
Played On 2/24/2013Not bad to practice!
The greens are a little rough...and there is a lot of unkept grass throughout the course. However 25 bucks for 18 with a cart on a Sunday can't be beat. Not a place to get serious, great place to work on my golf game for cheap though!
Sugar Hill Golf Club
Played On 11/10/2012Ridiculous terrain makes for tough shots!
The course was nice. My only complaint would be the greens, they were not smooth at all. It really made putting an impossible feat cause your ball would jump all over the place. Other than that, the extreme terrain made for a beautiful course. Wish it was a little cheaper though!
BridgeMill Athletic Club
Played On 10/27/2012Course was in great condition! The staff was extremely nice and helpful!
Excellent challenging course. I'll be back next week!
Correction: The Hamilton Mill website says Fred Couples AND Gene Bates. My apologies.
