Hillcrest Golf Club at Sun City West
Played On 10/29/2018Needs some time to heal
Can not really give effective course rating since it is still recovering from overseeding. Pace of play, while under 4 hours, was painfully slow with foursome ahead of us having 2+ holes open ahead of them all day.
Riverview Golf Course
Played On 04/07/2018Pace of play is biggest drawback.
Most who play here complain about tough greens due to slope and undulations. Often i agree but the worst thing anywhere is slow pace of play. Lack of rangers didn't help but allowing fivesomes on weekends makes for 5 plus hour rounds. The group two holes ahead was even allowed to use 4 carts. Abuse of cart rules by non-handicap players was big delay as well since they parked on all sides of the greens.
Tres Rios Golf Course at Estrella Mountain Park
Played On 03/10/2018Pace of play is biggest drawback.
Starter is nice touch but not if they don't make the effort to pair up twosomes especially when also allowing 5 player groups. Couldn't make a ballmark on any green so they also wouldn't hold any approach shots. Not worth the drive.
Wigwam Resort - Blue Course
Played On 03/08/2018gave it another chance.. won't play Blue again
Really enjoy the old Red and Gold courses but Blue is not for me. First part of March and the greens are like concrete. Less sand in bottom of bunkers than on sides and that seems unfair.
North Golf Course at Sun City
Played On 03/03/2018Golf is a social game... pair people up!
pace felt very slow due to 2 twosomes ahead. Course should put them together.
Sun city seems to have a new standard of putting the pins close to the edges and on humps, making for a frustrating round.
Sun City South Golf Course
Played On 02/27/2018Best course in sun city but pin positions set for pga major
Still my favorite course out here but last few rounds here have been frustrating due to the pin placements. Heard the same from other players. Many pins on highest point in green, even if that spot is only feet from the edge. Too tough for a public play, non-tourney day.
Sun City South Golf Course
Played On 02/17/2018Best of the Rec Center courses
Always enjoy this course, great tee options for all levels of players. Fairways in excellent shape, greens fair (a couple dicey pin placements). Staff is always friendly and helpful (especially Chaz).
Pueblo El Mirage Golf Club
Played On 02/08/2018Just can't get excited by course
Have played here many times, conditions usually leave much to be desired. This round I found the white tee boxes almost unusable. Ground was in terrible shape. Only course I play where I'd rather be in the rough than fairway.
Palmbrook Golf Club
Played On 12/26/2017Rules are rules but come on!
Had 12:45 tee time, no one teed off between 11:45-12:30 so asked if we could get out early ahead of 4 ladies groups. Pro shop made us sit and wait, as per hot deal rules, but all it did was compact the groupings so we had to wait on every shot. How about some common sense?
Hillcrest Golf Club at Sun City West
Played On 10/28/2017Course coming back... bunkers are not
Glad to see an old favorite finally looking good again. Player Assistance guy needs to be more of a marshal to speed players along. Threesome ahead of us made for very painful pace. Bunkers were horrible. Crusty surface with hard clay-like layer underneath. Too punishing.
Years since here... will be years before next time
Understandably busy since many courses closed for overseeding but 2+30 for 9 holes on executive course is crazy. Practice facility near course itself was terrible, only a putting green that wasn't comparable to greens. Course maintenance not up to par considering they're not closing. Very disappointing.
Rancho Manana Golf Club
Played On 09/05/2017Not what I remembered
Not a good course if you ever want to hit your driver. Definitely needs to be played once, probably badly, just to see the twists and turns before trying again. Pricey for a 2pm round.
Palm at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
Played On 09/02/2017Not what I remembered
Labor Day weekend and they close the snack bar at noon on a 104 degree day. Saw drink cart on first hole and tenth, not well timed. Cart girl wasn't friendly at all. The course wasn't well maintained with the rough long enough to swallow a ball just inches off the fairway. Lots of time needed to locate the ball. Pin placements were set for a tournament rather than a busy hacker weekend. Pace of play was only bright spot.
Copper Canyon Golf Club - Vista/Lake Course
Played On 08/19/2017Well worth the drive
Love this layout. Play it often in summer with lower rates. Only bad aspect today were the bunkers which were less sand and more like kitty litter. Course is challenging but forgiving.
Wigwam Resort - Blue Course
Played On 12/07/2016Holy pin positions Batman!
First time playing the shortest of the 3 Wigwam courses. Course itself was nice and in good shape. But whoever placed the pins today was either drunk or very angry at the world. Not a single flat pin placement and most were right on a crown that didn't allow for anything less than holing everything out. 5 foot putt uphill missed left a 10 footer coming back.
Hillcrest Golf Club at Sun City West
Played On 09/02/2016Not even driving range quality...or value
I knew they were doing overhaul on cart paths but there should have been a strong warning about the conditions of the rest of the course. What grass there was in "fairways" was like a normal first cut of rough, with grain against you most of the time. If you were in rough you may as well take unplayable because if you found the ball all you could expect was a wrist or forearm injury hacking it out. Bunkers were like the last inch of litter in a cat box. They should be paying us to play there in these conditions and keeping snack bar open longer to sell food to the saps that come out.
Wigwam Resort - Red Course
Played On 08/30/2016Must've been skipped for maintenance
Looked forward to playing here and was told by staff course was in great shape. Fairways, at best, we're the length of a normal first cut of rough. The rough, if you could find your ball, was smothering. No sand in bunkers either and the greens, while smooth, we're inconsistent for speed.
Championship at Moon Valley Country Club
Played On 08/21/2016True greens, false bunkers
Very nice old school, tree lined course. Greens were rolling great and putting was smooth. Gud help you if you got into a bunker though. They were hard as a rock and even had a muddy layer under the surface.
Eagle's Nest Country Club at Pebble Creek Resort
Played On 07/20/2016Little respect for afternoon players
Greens were nice if a little slow. Lots of bare areas throughout, which meant watering was needed, which meant turning the sprinklers on even though players were still on the course. Made for inconvenient shots as well as cart driving.
Corte Bella Golf Club
Played On 01/23/2016Slowed by members
Like the course, layout is fair. Played on a Saturday and waited on every shot behind a foursome of club members. They seemed oblivious to the presence of anyone but themselves, even taking extra putts after holing out.
We appreciate you filling out the online review and giving your honest assessment of the of the course. We know the bunkers are something that needs work, and we will be working on them over the next year trying to improve them. We hope you come back and play Hillcrest again soon!
