There's been no better state for football than Alabama in recent years, but the golf scene has also held its own nationally among the top-rated courses on Golf Advisor. Two courses made the top 10 U.S. Courses in 2016 according to Golf Advisor reviews.
The state's golf offerings feature a collection of fine local courses, plus some of the top bargain destinations in the southeast. Gulf Shores is a favorite getaway in the fall and spring months. Meanwhile the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is known nationally for excellent value and high-caliber tournament facilities. The top 15, gathered using your ratings and reviews from 2016, showcases a mix of these golf experiences.
To compile our state lists, we used a similar method to that of our our national Top 50 ranking. A course's score is based on their overall (50%) rating and subcategory average (50%). Reviews are weighted based on how prolific that reviewer is on Golf Advisor, and a course receives a bump in their rating if their score is better than that reviewer's average score.
