Amazing Improvements
I used to play this course quite regularly, but because of conditions and service I wouldn't play it if they paid me. Went out there yesterday, 8/16/2014, and was absolutely blown away: the greens and fairways were in remarkable shape, the rough still needs some attention. But given time this will, once again, be a fantastic bargain for the money
They are on the right track.
Haven't played there in 8 years. It was a dump! Friends said it was coming back The City was out and a golf management company took it over. I couldn't believe what they have done in such a short time. The staff was great, the clubhouse was clean and the food was good. We will definitely be back.
Nice course
The greens and fairways were in good condition. There are two 18 hole courses blue and red. The blue is 18 holes with no break or turn. If you like to stop and take a break after 9 then play the red. This course is a good value for the money. I will play there again.
Good deal.
I booked the blue course for 18 bucks. Had heard it was in a lot better condition than previous years and it was. Not excellent but up to pr with what it should be. Once the home of pro tournaments, you could tell it was once as it is a nice layout and decently long. For a 15-25 dollar fee this is a great course. You won't lose many balls either. Recommended for what it is.
needs some attention
paid 22 but that was to much. greens had bad cracking on the edges. sands traps looked like cart paths.course good for the beginner only
Worth it for practice
I was not expecting much from this course -- I was told it was a dog track -- nor did it deliver too much. I had an early tee time, and was able to coast through the course with nobody in front of me (and nobody else seemingly on the course).
There's not much too this course. It's straight and not overly long, but the fairways are very forgiving (the whole course is mashed together, so you'll be on another fairway if you miss yours by 20 yards), so it was a good place to come and practice. Never once did I have to put away the driver for a tee shot. For $25, which is the going rate on golfnow, this course was well worth it.
Good for the money
For 18 holes with riding, $13 was cheap for the course. I intended to play Blue course, but they paired me up with other couples. So I ended up playing alone in Red. Red is more challenging due to water hazards and elevation changes. Blue is better managed with greens and fairways.
Playing in a pasture.
Course is in horrible shape. I don't know if they even have a grounds crew to maintain the facility.
Rangers didn't promote letting the 2 somes play through.
No food or drink in the Blue course at all. Made the turn and all I saw was an abandoned snack shack.
Between the poor conditions of the course, the slow play ahead of us, and the fact that I was starving we didn't even bother finishing the round. Gave up after 15 holes.
Save your money and play elsewhere.
New Management has turned this course around
The expanded greens and well kept landscaping have made a huge difference. I used to only play this course as a last minute backup. Now I look forward to playing every time.
much improved
City of Cleveland is turning this into great course.
What a mistake!
Perfect morning....empty golf course. Now I know why. The condition of this course (BLUE side) was abominable. Fairways were cut like the rough should have been. Rough was over the ankles. Tee shots that landed in fairway but rolled into the rough were lost. Grass clippings were left all over the fairway; looked like millions of small gopher holes. ENTIRE landing area in front of 4th green was covered in grass clippings. This has NOTHING to do with the weather--this is poor, lazy, sloppy golf course "maintenance". I walked off after four holes....and still lost six golf balls. THREE immediately around the greens, buried forever in piles of grass clippings. Called MASTER CARD to stop payment on tee time. I live less than one mile away....and won't go back until this is all fixed. If ever..........
New Management Group should be ashamed of themselves
The course was in horrible condition. Rough was 6 inches or worse and the clippings from previous mowings were everywhere. Greens were slow and shaggy, fairways were in decent shape. Beer cans were strewn everywhere even in the sand traps. Overall gives a feeling that absolutely nobody cares. New management team should be fired immediately.
Good progress
I used to play this course a lot about 10 years ago when the course quality dropped dramatically, and I haven't been back until recently. Now that this course is under new management, this old gem is on its way back to its former glory. This course has 2 eighteens. This is a review for the blue course which features a championship caliber layout. It held an LPGA event in the 70's I believe. Its a pretty straightforward layout that allows you to bang the driver all day, with its length being its main defense. Multiple par 4's over 450 yards from the whites can be daunting, but the course also has enough holes where you can score. A good mix of difficulties keeps it fun. The course's main attraction is the greens though. Super fast, consistent greens are a real treat here. This course isn't done improving, and it isn't perfect, but the progress is very welcome.
Classic layout in the middle of the city
Great course with lots of character. Run by the city of cleveland so there isn't much money put into making it country club conditions, but the course is playable and challenging nonetheless
great layout. newd som upkeep
I grew up playing this course. Two years ago ,it was unplayable. The city of Cleveland almost ran it into the ground. New management is doing what they can to bring it back to its former glory.
The course was fun to play.
It was a very relaxed and comfortable round of golf. We were not rush at any point in time. However, we played the blue course which I am told does not have as many clients, therefore it was in rough condition. The fairways and rough, okay.. Greens and collars could use some work.. Tees boxes decent shape. Overall I had a good time. I will be back to play the red and blue courses again. Great Price!
classic layout
Highland Blue is said to be Links style, but does have several trees mature trees lining the fairways. I enjoyed the layout of the course. It was challenging without being overely difficult. The 18th is one of the best finshing holes in the area.
highland
the new management is making a great effort to make this a 1st class facility
Just a local dogtrack
Not very interesting course. Mostly flat and open. Hardly any water to speak of and there are weeds growing in the traps. Other than being long, no real challenges. Other than a really inexpensive price on golfnow, not worth going to unless you are there to just practice swinging.
Same old Highland
I had not played Highland for a couple of years and hoped the new owner had made improvements. Nothing much has changed, but he has only owned the course for less than a year.
Another golfer saw my husband struggling to put his clubs in the car and came over to help us, she was very helpful.
