Apollo Elks Country Club
About
Apollo Elks Country Club, situated just northeast of Pittsburgh, is considered one of the area's must-play golf courses. It has appeal for a wide range of skill levels with a layout that is challenging enough for seasoned golfers but also not too difficult for beginners to approach. There is an interesting mix of holes ranging from reachable par 5s to short, tough par 3s and each hole has a distinct character. The greens are fast and the gently rolling terrain provides some subtle breaks that can be tricky. Bunkering is sparsely but strategically placed along the fairways and greensides. There are also a few water hazards that come into play at Apollo Elks Country Club. The round has plenty to hold your attention but don't forget to stop and admire the beautiful western Pennsylvania scenery.

SOLID COURSE FOR THE MONEY
We ended up paying $17 a person with a hot deal and discount code. For the money it was a very good deal. The course was nice and the greens were great. my only complaint was the carts and facility weren't very good. but over all a solid course and would recommend it.
Good course for the money
The front nine layout was ok, but the back nine was great. Cart paths were very poor, but overall a great course for the price.
If you aren't afraid of bumpy cart paths. This is the best value course within 50 miles.
This year they really hiked their rates up quite a but. Up until June 1st, this course cost $12 for 9 and a cart. Golf now used to have many deals for <$15 for 18 holes here and it was the best value golf I've ever played.
If you have to choose between the front and the back check recent weather. If there's been alot of rain recently the first 3/4 holes get swamped out pretty good. Play the back. If the weather has been nice play the front. If you're old and hate bumpy cart paths, the front is much smoother than the back. The back is far more scenic and in the woods though. If you want some privacy, definitely play the back.
The greens at Elks are consistently the nicest greens around. Not necessarily the fastest but from beginning of the year on the first nice days in Feb until the last days you can squeeze in in October/November, Apollo Elks has absolutely MINT greens. Any review that tells you otherwise is lying.
A weird fact you may not even notice is there are only two holes on this course (not counting par 3's) that you can see the pin from where you tee off. Albeit that, the course isn't particularly difficult.
There are 3 staff members I've seen in 2018. The older guy is incredibly nice and fun to joke around with. Be happy if you see him. The other staff members are a younger kid and middle aged woman. I've seen them both be nice and both be jerks at times. The clubhouse is a PoS. Show up, pay quickly, and get out on the beautiful course.
I'd pay a ton of money over the course of the year playing at Apollo Elks if their summer rates weren't so high. Check across the street at The Links of Spring Church and if the rates are very close, play the Links.
Hidden gem
Great layout and better than what my friends thought.
Fun Course To Play
Other than the cart paths being eroded with water, this is a fun course to play and the greens and tees are always in good condition.
Excellent conditioned course! Always one of the better manicured greens in Western Pennsylvania. Unbeatable value!!!
Very Average, Terrible Greens
Very average course. Drove over an hour to get there because the reviews were all good. Got there and was disappointed. The greens were like putting on shag carpet. Fairways were average. It was wide open so our twosome finished in 3 hours which was nice, but the condition was average at best.
A lot of different playing hole layouts
No 2 holes are the same, Course was in great shape for this time of year. Clubhouse is rundown but that should not matter when you are just golfing. I liked the course and will be going back.
value
nice greens and fairways a few leaves on back nine but its October. wroth the trip
Wonderful course
Best greens around Course is in great condition Price is right
worth the money
Good greens and fairways, ball held on greens not like a county park( north) witch has no water per usual and a good staff, worth the trip and money.
Good variety of hole layouts
Good variety of hole layouts which make the course more challenging.
Apollo Elks terrific greens
This Elks facility has seen better days, but the staff does a terrific job with the course. The layout is good, with virtually no parallel fairways. Most impressive are the greens, which are in perfect shape and consistent.
It shares a stigma with it's nearby course Links at Spring Church; both are believed to be too far to drive from the general area, but this location is easily accessible, with little traffic and good roads.
Great Value
The actual course itself is very nice, not very long but still a nice layout with great conditions. Greens weren't exactly fast but they were smooth and well maintained. The main building is old and run down, there's an abandoned pool with weeds growing all around, and the pro shop was small and kind of dirty. If you ignore all that, for the price they are charging (especially in the fall) I would very much recommend this course! Went on a Monday afternoon and paid $20 for 18 with a cart and had the course to myself and played in 2 hours.
