Good course. No complaints. No beer for sale so BYOB.
In decent shape with room to improve.
I play here occasionally. The price is good and the course in okay shape. The building is in sad shape and the new managers have managed really good courses in the general area. I look forward to their improvements.
The greens are a little slow. It might be from the wet season. Cart path s are dated. But the old course and trees are enjoyable. Overall good to play course.
Hidden gem
Course was very wet, but the layout was ggod and the greens above average.
Great layout but one not so friendly staff member
The good: The course layout is great; fairways and greens are well maintained, green fees are reasonable making this one of the best public courses around.
The not so good: Sand bunkers are not maintained for the most part and are more like waste bunkers on most holes. Most who play here deal with it along with the bumpy cart paths because the rest of the course is so unique.
The ugly (just for our round I think and hope, and almost funny): The guy in the club house for that day was a tall not too gentlemenly person who let us know that he didn’t make any money from customers who paid online when I asked for a second scorecard for our twosome, and he tried to take the second scorecard from us. I asked why does he post rounds online then if it is such a pain for him, and he had no answer.
I have played here many times and the staff is usually friendly, but I will hesitate to come back, and hopefully he will save all the money he needs to save on scorecards and from online paying customers.
Good round.
The fairways were a bit ratty, but otherwise the course was fine.
Berkleigh is my favorite course.
nice course
not the same when it was private. bunkers hard no sand. greens great n fast. nice play for the money
Nice round of golf
Berkleigh is my favorite golf course. The greens are good, the fairways clean. The staff is always helpful and friendly
The only negative comment I have is, the cart paths could use some repairs.
Beautiful Course
We were met by a gentleman that picked up our clubs at the car. He was very couteous and informative. The course is in excellent condition. The cart paths could use a little maintenance. Had a wonderful round of golf.
Great Layout
Love the layout of this course. Greens were average.
I would play again for $10, but wouldn't pay much more than that as it stands right now. Most of the bunkers are non-playable. No ranger on course and starter sent off 3 singles right behind us and had to let all 3 of them play through. Pace of play was very slow, no ranger to speed things up and make the smaller groups play together.
old school golf
If you like old school golf course designs then the road trip to Berkleigh is well worth it. The course overall doesn't kill you with distance but it is designed such that it can play long as it did on this day in soft conditions. It will be changing management companies so while the fairways and greens are maintained the course is a little shaggy on the edges and the bunkers need redone. If you like road trips this is a must play.
Neglect really starting to show
My comments are not reflecting any course issue due to recent storms.
If rumors are true that this course is slated to close in the near future, it shows. Bunkers are shot, barely any sand. No water on the course (Not a big deal, just thought I would mention it), rough trimmed to varied levels, garbage cans not emptied, debris around the course. It is sad to see this course fall into such disrepair. Starter was friendly, tee boxes were ok, greens rolled well and were in good condition. Only play it if you get a discounted tee time, otherwise definitely not worth it.
Expected more....
Been told by a number of people I have to try this course, so I decided to give it a go. Pulling into the parking lot, the first thing I notice is most of the bunkers look more like lakes. We have had a lot of rain in this area this summer, so everything is pretty saturated, but I expect some effort to deal with flooded bunkers. Pump them out or something at the very least. Guys in the club house were nice and although I did not walk around the entire building, there was not much in the way of gear in what I will call a check in space. Golf carts were fine/clean. Course itself was in good shape for the most part. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were well maintained. The bunkers are a disaster, and this course has a lot of them. There is really no sand in them at all. Playing a bunker shot is hitting off a mixture of packed sand and clay. Really touch on the hands. Also, and this is something I really take issue with is no water on the course. This is the first course I have ever run across that had no water. Really poor. Also, we had walkers going out before 3:00, which this time of year on a weekend is a no no IMO, especially because I am a rhythm player and 5 - 7 minute waits on the T Box is not worth it. From a visual perspective and challenge perspective, nothing to write home about. There were no wow holes for me. Hopefully they can spend some money and do some upgrades. I would personally not play this course again. Just not worth it for the 30 minute drive and price when I can play very similar courses 15 minutes away and for a lesser price.
Nice design, lacks key features
Overall, Berkleigh was not as impressive as I was led to believe it was. Some holes certainly provided ample challenge, but greens were pretty slow and extremely soft. Most bunkers were flooded as well, but perhaps all of this was due to rain in the previous few days. Fairways and 1st-cut rough played nicely, but few holes were provided bumpy cart paths, meaning large portions of rough heading toward the green were butchered by moving carts. Our pace of play was excellent, and we managed to finish our round in about 4 hours and 15 minutes.
Nice bang for the buck
Some really neat holes on this course with some nice elevation changes too. Fairways and greens are in consistently nice shape. During periods of heavy ran this course can get overly saturated and soggy in low areas. My real gripe is the bunkers, some of them need some serious attention. Some were completely absent of any actual sand and were just raked dirt. Other than that, you can find some great deals online. Even their regular prices are fair and you get free lunch with it too.
No Sand Man !
Have played this great course many times, and overall the course is in great shape. Tee boxes=Average, Fairways=Great, Greens=Great. Sand traps= Terrible ! There is no sand at all in every bunker, which is really unfortunate. This may keep me from coming back, which is a shame , because this is an awesome course.
