Reading Country Club
About
Opened in 1923, Reading Country Club is one of the area's oldest golf courses. Located less than a half hour from King of Prussia, the course is easily accessible from anywhere in the greater Berks County area. Though it has a traditional layout that doesn't have the length that most modern courses do, that hasn't stopped it from being one of the most challenging public golf courses in Berks County. The rolling terrain provides a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The course will test you with lightning fast, undulating greens that are protected by sand traps and there is punishing rough bordering the narrow, tree-lined fairways. Be prepared for uphill shots and blind approaches throughout the golf course. Reading Country Club's par 3s are especially notable for their difficulty.

Tough challenge as usual..conditions SUPERB!!!
Get all the clubs in the bag (You will need them)...beginners stay away as balls will be lost. This course demands many plays until you know where to place the ball, hit the greens and PLEASE THROW AWAY ALL THOSE YARDAGE GIZMOS AS THEY ARE WORTHLESS! The par 3's each pose a tremendous challenge from the back tees, and go ahead, use that yardage toy and see where you wnd up, Out of Bounds, In a creek, trap, or under a tree. Wind can play a massive factor too. Anyway, greens are easily the fastest and best in the area...fairways are plush and nice, tees pretty good too..rough is just ROUGH. I am going back tomorrow and Sunday ...can't wait!
awesome grens
If you want firm fast greens Reading is the place to play. There are no ball marks or any flaws in the greens. The course plays fast and everything is in good shape. The par 3s are a tremendous collection of holes.
gr8 old style course
I've played many times over the years and still enjoy as if it was the first time........each hole is different and interesting..........you need every club in your bag.......very nice when greens are fast...........would be nice when they finally take care of the bunkers, the best bet is to drop out of.............will always come back as long as I am able to play
Firm Greens
Fun course to play. Well maintained. Particularly the greens that are firm and fast. Downside is that one has to cross a busy street twice that feels dangerous.
Pace of play is the worst
Pace of play was especially bad today. There was a backup at every hole and on the back nine it was the worst with about a 15 minute wait time each hole. And then you still had to stand there and wait for each shot you took.
It was a beautiful day, and being the weekend, I expected some wait time but today was ridiculous.
Greens : - (
I like this course and would normally recommend playing this course. However, WHAT HAPPENED to the greens? It seemed like every green had 30-60% damage. Usually most courses the Fairways and greens are in good shape. Tee boxes... not so much.
Didn't get a chance to talk to someone about what happened to the greens. Normally this course is always in great shape. It's usually worth the 1hr + drive to play here. I hope next season they are back on track.
Always a Treat
Have played 5 or 6 rounds here this season and it is always a pleasure and worth the 75 minute drive each way. I only wish it was closer to my house. The staff is wonderful and the players I have met have all been delightful. Greens were in great shape. The bunkers were sugary and in good shape. Lots of elevated greens with gentle undulations. Play it, you will like it!
Excellent course
Great shape. Greens fast and pure. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Welcome Change
First time playing and my wife and I were joined by a twosome who had played many times. As the description suggests this is not your typical bomb the driver course. Sloped fairways and interesting hazards will challenge all levels to position and achieve GIR. Fast greens despite two days of rain. Tee boxes could use some work and fairway bunkers really need some attention Welcoming pro shop and starter. Overall a very nice course and good value. I will return.
Phenomenal value
This course offers a tremendous value. Will you find world class conditions? No, but you will find solid conditions paired with a great classic layout.
The previous reviewer is a moron. This is a classic layout that requires you strategically move yourself around the course. The greens are always in good shape and roll true. The rough and bunkers could use some work, but in general this is one of my favorite courses in the area. Highly recommend!
Where is everyone?
Played Monday afternoon, deserted, but course in nice shape.
