Always a great course. Greens were a little shaggy the day I was there but usually one of them best courses in the Midwest.
Perfect day
The coarse was wonderful also. Very well kept-up. Staff is very friendly. Finding your way to tee boxes is a safari at times. I try to make it down every year. Love It!
Awesome course!
One of the best, if not the best course in the Black Hills!
Nice Place
This is a really nice course! It demands a bit of accuracy on a number of holes, but was very fun to play. I got the Hot Deal from GN otherwise it would have been $45 with the cart. There are times when you wonder which way to go since the tees are sometimes a ways away from the last green, but I made it playing alone for the first time on the course. The map helps! I didn't take advantage of the shop at all, I just golfed the 18 holes! You will enjoy this course!
Southern Hills in Hot Springs SD
Southern Hills is a jewel of a course within the Hills of Hot Springs SD.
On a warm autumn day, watching the play of light over the contours of the beautifully maintained Southern Hills course brings one a golf treat - an awareness that is more than just 'getting ready' for a round of play.
The challenge of the course from the back tees requires one to use imagination for seeing beyond the mere distance from tee to green, genuinely incorporating visual and physical attributes of this course into the experience and manner of play. Although the back 9 is probably too long a distance for walking, the front 9 is worth the time to enjoy the majestic surroundings!
Fell a little flat for me
Guess I was expecting a little more from this course after reading the reviews and seeing the videos and pictures. I do like the setting and scenery of the course. The front 9 was a little on the bland side for the most part. The back 9 does have a little more character and provide more of a challenge. The course is in fairly good condition, although though the greens a little inconsistent at times. Was not the best value either. Overall, not a bad track and would play again.
Southern Hills - a great course
Our first time playing Southern Hills was a great experience with the one exception of very slow play in the group of 10 (3 tee times) playing ahead of us.
The course is well laid out, in very good condition, and a great selection of tee distances for all levels of golf play.
As a first time player on the course, it was difficult to determine where to hit shots - a gps system in the cart would really be beneficial to golfers on this well laid out course.
Awesome
Nice course played it many times. Fairways a little shaggy but still have a chance to reach par 5s in 2.
'Executive' style
A very Short 5000 yd course - more of an 'Executive' style with extra par 3's for par 70. Wonderful views and elevation changes and excellent grass. Greens could be faster for the quality of turf but might be Too difficult for locals. DO NOT refer to their web site for specials - still had listings from 2 years ago and staff was very rude about it so I went through Golf Now -- would Not be worth full rate.
Great Place to play
Southern Hills is the course to play in the Black Hills. They do a great job of maintaining this course.
Lots of Variety!
Great golf course! Lots of variety and some challenging play. Does not disappoint... love to play here!
Beautiful- Must play
One of the best courses in the hills. Played early April, so just happy to play! Of course, the greens were slow this early in the year. Nice, very helpful gal in the clubhouse. My only encouragement to the management would be to try and find a way to route the back nine (if possible) differently. It can get a bit confusing, and can take a little away from such a wonderful golf experience...maybe re-route all 18. Either way, everyone who golfs needs to play here!!!
Beautiful & Interesting Course
Elevated tee boxes. Full 18 holes.
Black Hills beauty
Our favorite course in the Black Hills. Picturesque, with excellent variety. Highly recommended.
Hidden Gem
One of the nicest courses that I played and I travel all over the world. Hot Springs has excellent greens, excellent views, with elevated tee boxes that can give some of the best golfers a test. But also gives all golfers a great experience
This is a beautiful course with great views of the southern Black Hills
We have played this course many times and it is always in terrific shape. The front and back nine holes are like playing two completely different courses which makes it very interesting. It is not a course for walking as there are some long stretches between holes on the back nine.
Great views
Course is very hilly, almost every hole the green is either well above or below you. Coupled with ball flies further at elevation, couldn't get my distance right. Fairways wide here, greens were hard (it's been very dry) with slope and speed. Played better once I started using 1 less club than I would normally. Need cart for back 9. Can walk front. Fantastic views. Would play again.
Don't Get It
This course is a collection of terrible and dangerous holes with a few nice ones. The back and forth fairways and blind shots led to our group almost getting hit FIVE different times. The back has a few nice new holes but the 3-pars are all the same distance and the creativity in the design was mostly lacking. Worst service I've ever had at any course in South Dakota. Terribly disappointed. Came here with really high expectations. Will definitely never go back.
