What can you expect?
The course was in rough condition due to recent weather, so that can't be blamed on the course staff. However, the cart paths were, in some spots, completely impassible. The staff were very friendly, and the clubhouse was what you would expect from a municipal course. The greens were in surprisingly good shape. My party got stuck behind a very slow group, and that slowed our pace of play to a crawl. It was a fair course to play, as we were just passing through town. Probably would stop in again if I knew the course was in better condition.
Horrible
I booked this last minute. When I showed up to the golf course they told me they just got done working in there greens (airrate). His was not disclosed in the website before I booked. If I would have known I would have not booked it . Condition of the course was horrible.
Wet Wet Wet
Normally a nice course. Due to recent weather the course was cart path only _ not really the fault of the course. Greens had just been areated - booked through this site so we did not know this fact. Give them a month to get this course ready for good play.
Match play, good times
Played here with my beginner buddy and had a great time. The course was on a frost delay due to the low temperatures(not their fault). I went to putt on the obviously thawed out practice green and got chastised by one of the maintenance guys, no big deal he was just being protective of the greens. We finally got in line and had to deal with some slow play initially but things got better as we focused on playing our match play round. The greens were typical municipal speed and condition. Took a bit of adjusting to get the pace right. Several fairway issues that aren't marked but all in all a good layout that mostly rewards well placed shots. Lots of hard pan and gravel if you're not in the fairway. Not an ideal course for those used to playing on lush fairways and slick greens, but for 20 bucks it's a great value.
its knox
public course that is getting better, willie is pleasant inside. greens were better than ive seen before.
layout is fine for old course
Behind the course have very nice view of wall of trees.
Knoxville Municipal
Mostly good some greens in need of attention as far as ball marks, just recovering from severre storm that took down some treees so staff is probably busy with that.
Cart paths very rough
It is what it is.
The city of Knoxville needs to put some money into the course for cart path improvements. The employees were extremely nice and course is in need of some repair. The cost was a great deal for a holiday rate. For my level of skill course was good but I remember when course was in much better shape and condition.
A very friendly municipal course - great value!
Every attempt is being made to keep this jewel owned by the City of Knoxville available and up to snuff. There is some work to be done (show me a course that doesn't - I probably couldn't afford to play there), but they are in there pitching! Many great holes, many different looks. We had about a 45 minute wait in the clubhouse while a storm passed through and it was downright pleasant! The course drained well after a good downpour and there was no confusion about who was on which hole when we started back. If you're looking for a good place to play with no pretentiousness, this is it!
Needs maintenance
Fairways and cart trails were terrible. Pitting and ground under repair everywhere in fairways. Had to drive at 1/4 speed because of lumpiness of fairways. Cart paths in dangerous shape. Greens in reasonable shape and tricky/challenging. For first time player, pay the dollar for the course yardage book...cartoons on scorecard were useless and
misleading.
The course has character
Greens were in good shape, rolled well. The layout is interesting, tree lined fairways make it challenging. The staff is great. Cart paths were quite rough however. Hole # 3, make sure your drive is not right of center or it will roll in the trees or creek.
Disappointed
I have played Knox Muni many times over the years. This was by far the worst condition the course has been in. The tee boxes were horrible. The cart paths are in bad need of repair. As usual the staff was very friendly but the golf course was bad.
Poor cart paths
This course demands good tee shots or you will be playing from the trees on several narrow fairways. Very short and easy par 3's especially since there are no bunkers on the entire course. The cart paths are in very bad shape. Overall the course conditions are below average. Other than mowing, the entire course seems to be in a state of neglect. There is no driving range. The entire staff however were very helpful and friendly. There are many better choices in the Knoxville area in this price range. This course is not recommended.
Knoxville golf club
The staff was very helpful and considerate. They were very helpful with directions around the course. The deli was clean and the food was good. The course is playable but would be much better if the fairways were over seeded for the winter.
Great muni
Was not expecting much with all of the rain the prior day, but was surprised at the good drainage. There were 2 holes they are working on the tee box. Greens are in great shape! Super friendly staff!
Nice condition, good pace of play.
fist time in a long while to play here. Great starter Bob, gave us the lowdown of the course. will return, with my company league this wednesday.
Course improvements
This golf course is in the best condition ever. They are putting money back into it to make it even better.
Rough Track
I guess you get what you pay for here. Course is in very rough shape in regard to both the esthetics and terrain.
About 8 holes that are basically the same set-up from tee to green I thought. Greens were bumpy, cart paths (where there were any) were bumpier and the maintenance staff seemed unaware of the patrons while they cut grass, etc.
Fun course if you've got nowhere to be and about 12 cold beer (per golfer).
Good for about $10 less
No bunkers anywhere on the course, several areas that always seem to be extremely wet (including the lay up area on the par 5 hole 9), and tee boxes are generally in disrepair. The greens are very well maintained and there are some fun/challenging holes, but for $30 I would much rather play Centennial in Oak Ridge. If you are looking for the cheap/easy course, you would be better off playing at Whittle Springs for $22.
mkvanhoose,
First and foremost, thank you for choosing us for your round of golf while traveling through Knoxville. I am glad to hear that you felt the staff was very friendly, that is something we take great pride in. We are currently undergoing major cart path construction, which is the source of the path-related issues you encountered. Currently, the paths are fully prepped for the next phase of the project, which is the actual laying down of asphalt. The portions of our paths that look particularly out-of-shape are areas that have been dug out and reclamated for the upcoming paving. That said, I do apologize for this not being mentioned while you were checking in for your round in the Golf Shop. As you mentioned, unfortunately the weather has not been entirely favorable so far this year, but as we move closer to peak season and the Bermuda grass comes out of dormancy, we will see significant improvements in conditions. I would encourage you to give us another try on your next trip through town once the cart path project has been completed and the course is in full bloom, so to speak. Again, thank you for your feedback, and if you have any further comments or questions please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or our staff - we hope to see you soon!
Best Regards,
Justin Smedley
