Good value and experience

Overall course in good shape. Bermuda fairways excellent, greens rolled well and consistent. Weeds in some greens, but minor. Only irritating thing is patrons don't seem to repair ball marks. Good experience, pace and value

Great Shape

Municipal has been in great shape this year. Billy Casper Golf seems to be taking much better care of it now than in years past and the course is responding to their care taking. I've never seen their greens in better shape. I play here quite frequently so i've seen it in it's ups and downs and right now it's definitely on the upswing.

Just one thing

Thought the overal of the course was awesome! Only thing was that wish someone would have said something bout the greens. They were aerated so putting was more difficult.. Doesn't make a big deal just wish someone would have said something.

Same old Municipal

Considering how long this course has been around, I would have thought it would be more improved than what it is. I've played here a bunch, but it's been around four years since I last played, and the condition of the course is the same as I remember.

I thought I might notice some improvements, changes, or anything really but I didn't. It's a fun relaxing course that's good to play for practice. I wouldn't spend over $25 here or take work clients here, but a fun game with friends is right up this courses alley.

It's not in great shape, but it's not in bad shape either. There's not much else you can say about it. It's just a shame the course has gotten better in all this time.

Course shortened

Been doing construction on this course since I have lived in Knoxville, I enjoy continuous improvement but this place will always be under construction. The course plays par 69 now, hole 17 is par 3 110 yards, also hole is a par 3 about 130 yards. There aren't really any tee boxes anymore, they just place the boxes in the middle of the fairways or even out of the rough - no way this should be more than a $20 course. Oh, also 9 has last 50 yards landing zone cut off to play into a par 5 before water. No cart service but lady was nice in shop. Greens were in fairly good shape and cups okay. Fairways have had disease forever, seems to only get worse. Never been impressed, was at least hoping to play a full round. First time I've played in years, I'd recommend another course. Only played here because no other availability

Blackb1,

I am sorry that you did not have an enjoyable experience during your most recent visit to Knoxville Municipal. As you mentioned, we do have ongoing efforts on the course to improve conditions for our players. Beyond the new cart paths, which have been completed, the most impactful of these projects is the grow-in that is underway in the fairways on holes 18 and 2. Both fairways were sprigged in late May, which is the reason both of those holes are currently playing as par 3’s from temporary tee boxes. The unfortunate outcome of a rough winter was damage to a few of our fairways and tee boxes, which was a condition out of our control that we have been vigorously working to repair. I have written a number of entries about our ongoing course recovery efforts in my blog, which I would encourage you to check out – hopefully that will address your concerns more in depth: http://www.golfknox.com/blog

Nevertheless, I understand your frustration in having to play both shortened holes, as well as work around the newly sodded area on the 9th hole. These circumstances are necessary evils in getting the course back into shape, which is our main focus and will result in a higher quality golf course for all of our customers to enjoy. I would ask you to come back and give us another try once the grow-in process is complete and we are able to fully open the course – I believe you will see the payoff of all the hard work we have put in thus far in 2015. Again, I sincerely apologize that your experience playing our course was not more enjoyable, but I hope that you afford us the opportunity to show you the outcome of these projects and play another round here in the near future.
Best Regards,

Don't waste your time or money

At the first tee box, which was elevated, my father and I were both under the impression that the course was purposefully being let go so that it could be turned into a new subdivision. I have played at Knoxville for 8 years, and my father has played there for decades. I have never seen it in such poor shape, and my father could not believe that such a nice golf course could look like such crud. The cart paths are a combination of dirt and gravel. The fairways consist of less than a quarter inch of grass if you are lucky. Out of the fairway you will find a combination of dirt, wild grass, weeds, and sometimes water where a sprinkler has burst open and no one has fixed it. I know that a new management company has taken over the course and two others in the area - both of which you should also beware - Centennial and Whittle Springs Golf course. Bottom line: just don't play golf in Knoxville anymore. The courses are just not worth playing until somebody new company comes in and manages them.

u000003491677,

Thank you for your feedback, and I sincerely apologize that you did not have an enjoyable experience during your last visit. Unfortunately, we are undergoing some struggles in course conditions as a result of a harsh winter. Additionally, we are in the process of repaving our cart paths. During the day you played, we had actually just began paving the front 9, which is why play was restricted to the back 9 only during your visit. We are expecting paving to transfer over to the back 9 beginning early next week.

I have just recently written in my course blog about the concerns you raised, which I would encourage you to give a read: http://www.golfknox.com/blog/a-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel-a-course-update

We understand the adverse impact our current conditions can have on golfers, and we are making efforts to communicate that message to our guests - this apparently was not the case with your visit, and I sincerely apologize for that. I only ask that you check out the blog entry linked above, and I would like to invite you back out to the course to see our new cart paths upon completion of the project.

If you have any further concerns please reach out to myself or my staff and we will happily address those questions. I hope you will give us another chance in the near future to provide you with the fun and enjoyable experience we strive to offer here at Knox Muni.

Best Regards,

Needs work on fairways and cart paths!

Cart paths are best suited for four wheelers, fairways have no grass, fairway balls run like someone that stole something.

bjjbhardy,

Thank you for your feedback following your visit to our course. I am very sorry that you had a displeasing experience, that is never something we like to hear. As you mentioned, our cart paths are very rough at the moment due to an ongoing cart path reconstruction project that has been underway for the past month. I am happy to report that workers are out on the property pouring asphalt as I type. While this project is likely going to take longer to complete than we had hoped, the end result will be a significant improvement to the course. Additionally, cooler than usual temperatures during the period of time when Bermuda grass transitions out of dormancy has slowed fairway growth. This is a condition we are seeing throughout our area, unfortunately, and is something that we are very aware of. Those circumstances, combined with a rough winter, have created challenges with turf conditions that we have every intention of addressing. Unfortunately, much of the current situation is controlled by Mother Nature, but I can assure you that appropriate measures will be taken to address problem areas within our control.

Again, I sincerely apologize that you did not have the fun and enjoyable golf experience we set out to provide. I would encourage you to visit us again follow the completion of cart path paving, at which time we should also see an improvement in playing conditions. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our staff or myself directly - and we hope to see you soon!

new paths next week

The guys at this course are always great. The greens get better every year. It was muddy and the cartpaths won't be ready for another week or so. Once the heavy flooding subsides and the fairways and tee boxes get some grass this will be better than ever this summer. I value pace of play, friendliness pretty highly.

What can you expect?

The course was in rough condition due to recent weather, so that can't be blamed on the course staff. However, the cart paths were, in some spots, completely impassible. The staff were very friendly, and the clubhouse was what you would expect from a municipal course. The greens were in surprisingly good shape. My party got stuck behind a very slow group, and that slowed our pace of play to a crawl. It was a fair course to play, as we were just passing through town. Probably would stop in again if I knew the course was in better condition.

mkvanhoose,

First and foremost, thank you for choosing us for your round of golf while traveling through Knoxville. I am glad to hear that you felt the staff was very friendly, that is something we take great pride in. We are currently undergoing major cart path construction, which is the source of the path-related issues you encountered. Currently, the paths are fully prepped for the next phase of the project, which is the actual laying down of asphalt. The portions of our paths that look particularly out-of-shape are areas that have been dug out and reclamated for the upcoming paving. That said, I do apologize for this not being mentioned while you were checking in for your round in the Golf Shop. As you mentioned, unfortunately the weather has not been entirely favorable so far this year, but as we move closer to peak season and the Bermuda grass comes out of dormancy, we will see significant improvements in conditions. I would encourage you to give us another try on your next trip through town once the cart path project has been completed and the course is in full bloom, so to speak. Again, thank you for your feedback, and if you have any further comments or questions please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or our staff - we hope to see you soon!

Best Regards,
