Lakeside/Meadows at Shaker Run Golf Club
About
Conveniently located less that 30 minutes from Cincinnati in the city of Lebanon, Shaker Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship golf. Arthur Hills designed the original 18-hole course in 1979 and the design team of Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry added the Meadows nine 20 years later. Each nine has unique characteristics, providing three diverse 18-hole combinations when played together. The Lakeside/Meadows Course combines the nine with the most water, Lakeside naturally, and the longest nine. While it may be the lengthiest, Meadows is also the gentlest since it was added as a player-friendly complement to the other golf courses to make Shaker Run more approachable for a range of skill levels. The layout has a rolling landscape that is unique for an Ohio course, and in addition to the water there are also several strategically placed sand traps.

Expected better
It was first time I played Shaker Run in years and the course was not in good shape. Tee boxes were terrible, fairways were so so, greens were decent but not nearly as good as I remembered them being.
The layout is tremendous just which it was maintained better.
Nice Course
I am by no means an expert or a great golfer. I found this to be a very challenging course. There were a few fairways that needed some attention as they were muddy. The food at the clubhouse was very good for a golf course. I will play here again.
Awesome! Thank you kindly for the goof review - we love our fans! We are so glad you enjoyed the course and you found it to be a good challenge and you like the food at the clubhouse too. Come back again soon!
Stay away until they get the fairways back & greens fixed
My memories of playing were wiped out by the sad condition the course was in.
tee boxes chopped up and full of weeds
fairways had lots of bare ground instead of grass.
greens on Woodlands full of unhealed aeration holes.
Lakeside greens full of Bumps like someone let the cattle graze.
The course should be ashamed for they price charged.
Should have known how bad it was when starter said the course was not in the best of shape
Jack

Still a beautiful course
When you book a round, it would be nice if they told you about 1) recent aeration and 2) chemical applications/no cutting of greens - Woodland still a great layout, but greens might have rolled 3 on the stimp with the aeration holes and long grass. Meadows has in overall good condition, though greens were still a little slower than in the past. The lack of on course basics is a major flaw - only 2 water coolers on the 18 holes (first one not til 7th hole), and no basic layout info (no signpost info, no basic map on scorecard). A couple of pins were not in the quadrant that the daily guide said they would be in. Of course, using a laser solves that.
Hi Erik, thank you for your review and for playing at Shaker Run Golf Club. We are glad you think our course is still beautiful - we think so too! We hear you on some of the misses there, we'll inform our staff on the matter thanks for bringing this to our attention. Hope to see you soon!
Dry course.
The course is a little dry and crusty in some spots; but it's still a beautiful course. The lake looked a little low so maybe they aren't getting a lot of rain? The greens are in great shape although it looks like the woodlands 9 was plugged a week or so ago. That caused a little bumpiness on the back 9 but overall we were very happy. I love playing Shaker and i will be back this Fall.
Awesome! We really appreciate the feedback and hope to see you again soon at Shaker Run. We are making improvements to the conditions every day and hope you will notice our improvements. See you again!
Don't bother with the Woodlands course
I've played Shaker Run many times and the Woodlands 9 is the worst I've ever seen it. It was in the worst condition of any course I've played this year and rivals the worst I've ever played. The Meadows was in much better shape, but that just brought it to average. I was disappointed a year ago when I played here so I don't plan on coming back.
Thank you for leaving your review on Shaker Run, we understand the conditions may not have been up to par however we assure you our staff and crews are informed and we're working hard to bring things back. We do hope you come back and check us out again this fall season. Email us so we can sort something out for you:

Not What It Used to Be
I booked a time yesterday to try and squeeze in some golf after work yesterday. I read all of the reviews on here and couldn't believe that the course had really gotten that bad in the time since I played it last (about 2 years ago).
The reviews are all correct. The course is in awful shape. The fairways are all burnt up, the greens are awful, and good lord the tee boxes are bad. We even played a hole on Lakeside where there was a sprinkler head in the dead center of the tee box between the tee markers. It speaks to just a general carelessness of whoever is maintaining this facility. The course I remember used to be the nicest in the area, but I won't be making the drive up there anymore until I can be sure that conditions have improved.
Thank you for coming out to play at Shaker Run Golf Club, we are sorry to hear that the course did not meet the expectation and we are working hard to make things better and create an enjoyable and pristine golfing experience for you and everyone on their next round. We hope to see you back again soon!
Course has seen better days
Heavy used course. Many fairway marks and soft spots with bare (dirt) patches galore. Greens were in poor condition. Even with all of that, you can see glimpses of its former glory with the scenic fairways and water features. Only go if you have a bargain tee time.
We thank you for playing at Shaker Run Golf Club and taking the time to review our course and the facility. We hope to see you again and we're working towards patching up anything we may have missed, thank you for letting us know!
No longer a premium course
Wow!!! How this course has fallen. Once the top course on the area, now not even the nicest course on the road (GreenTree). The fairways and tee boxes look like they haven't been maintained all summer.
If I could post pictures I would. Fairways were burnt to a crisp, but the greens surprisingly rolled true. Still....I used to wish I could play this course. Now I will not go back until it receives the love and attention a prestigious course deserves.
Save your money and go to Weatherwax.
We hear you and we thank you for taking the time to review our course, Shaker Run Golf Club. We are working towards a better Shaker Run and have informed our staff and crews on the matter. We hope we see you again for your next round this fall season!
Previous Quality Reviews are Accurate
The prior reviews which spoke to the poor course conditions are accurate. Most fairways are burned out for one reason or another, most tee boxes are in poor condition, most, not all traps are raked, but are generally in poor condition. The greens don't look great, but they do put decent.
It's hard to believe this once pristine course (quite a few years ago now) has deteriorated to what it is today, it's sad to see. If you're out to hit the ball around and don't care about the finer points, then this is probably ok, but if you're looking for a pristine experience, try one of the other east side courses which are in much better condition.
We appreciate your feedback and sorry to hear that the conditions may not have been up to par. We have informed our staff and crews on the matter and are working hard to rectify the situation and make this is the best Shaker Run possible for your next round. Come back and see us again we look forward to your visit.
Just wow
We grabbed the GolfNow Hot Deal of the day, and were treated like second class citizens. In fact our T-Time was right behind the high school golf teams that were there practicing that day. That's right 12 kids on one hole with coaches. The guy in the clubhouse said "It's gonna be slow, you might not get it all in”. We were supposed to play Meadows-Lakeside.
The last time we booked via Golf Now they called us on the way to the course asking us to cancel because they had an outing and couldn't honor the T-Time that we had booked. We showed up anyway and played Meadows twice, instead of the Meadows-Lakeside that we booked.
So this is the 2nd time out of two times this year they have completely over-booked the course, and honestly couldn’t care less.
It’s a shame that the management of this course has gone so far downhill from its glory days.

Love Shaker Every Time
The course is in really good shape lately. Other reviewers probably shot 100+ if they had a bad time... The bunkers could use a little attention, but the greens (what most people care about) are in the best shape that I've seen them in years. All in all the layout of Shaker Run is still what brings me back. I imagine as the Fall season comes, the course will be - again - the best in the area...
Awesome! Thank you very much for taking the time to review our course and for playing at Shaker Run! We look forward to the fall season and can't wait to see you back at the course - keep practicing!
Nice course
Played early afternoon, weather was sunny and nice.
The greens were good, faster on Woodside than Meadows course.
The second par 5 on Woodside, the fairway was in bad shape.... It had rained the evening before and it got washed out due to not much grass.
NOTE: on Woodside, start your GPS unit on hole number 7 (old number 1). Then the current number 4 hole is now number 1.
Thank you for playing at Shaker Run Golf Club! We look forward to seeing you again and so glad you enjoyed your day out on the course. Come back again!
Deteriorating quickly - very sad for what was a great course
Growing up in Middletown and regularly playing shaker run I was always amazed at how well maintained and how well the course played. I felt the same even with the housing development that is now present, up to about two years ago. I brought an out of town coworker to play after bragging on the course in August 2015. What a DISAPPOINTMENT AND EMBARASSMENT! One fairway actually had NO grass, the tee boxes were in horrific shape, and then to reach the greens to find traps with no sand, standing water (with weeds actually growing through the water) I wanted to ask for my money back. Needless to say I won't be going back. No ahve had numerous conversations with others who have visited since that came away with the same feeling; once a GREAT course that has been neglected and should be shut down until it is restored to its former status. Pics were taken to substantiate these claims.
Condition issues confirmed
Played once this spring and decided to give them another chance, my fault believing they want to bring it back to conditions of the original owners Armco Steel not the Lamberts some would want you to believe. This is a $25 public course but they are trying to convince everyone it's a manicured high dollar track. Conditions? tee boxes are terrible, appear they leave the tee markers in the same area without movement, bunkers are disgraceful, worse than this spring, no rakes, little sand, weeds, no drainage, employees with rakes could at least clean them up at no cost, evident no one cares. Not sure what has happened to the fairways but they are burnt out, disease? greens are full of unprepared ball marks and brown spots. By the way, piling up dead trees and letting the weeds grow around the mess to hide it? Well what more can be said except what is up with all the dead trees with faded yellow x's? Are they waiting for them to fall down on someone? If you loved this course back in the day, don't waste your time or money, this isn't the same course. The course we once looked forward to playing doesn't exist.
We regret to hear the course conditions did not meet your expectations and possibly affected your round on the course. We are working hard every day to make this the best Shaker Run possible and hope you will see our improvements if you choose to return. Let us know what we can do to make it a better round for you while at the golf shop.
Meadows side of the course not worth the cost
the Lakeside and Woodlands sides of the course are fun, challenging and a great combination to play. The Meadows course looks like they forgot about it and overall was a mess, especially compared to the other two.
Thanks for coming out and enjoying your round at Shaker Run Golf Club! We have noted the conditions at the Meadows course and will ensure it is audited to get back to par for your next round at Shaker Run. We hope to see you again!
Maintenance Major Issue
I've read through the reviews below and continue to see the Shaker Run account reply and say how they are working on improving the conditions. Some of these review go back to before summer. I can say that as of July 26th, Shaker Run has done very little-to nothing, to improve the conditions of the course. All the issues they pointed out remain the same. I can't get over how horrible the bunkers are at this place. Rain is not an excuse, as these issues aren't from rain and other area courses have playable bunkers. These bunkers are unplayable and embarrassing. Weeds, mud, tire tracks, wash outs....it seriously looks like no one has bothered to touch a bunker with a rack or sand pro in at least 4 years. Unreal. I spent my summers in college maintaining bunkers at my local golf club so I am not being ignorant at what it takes to have playable bunkers. And also probably why I've been compelled to write this review, email Shaker directly and grip to fellow golfers. I can't get over how terrible these are. I've heard from many area locals that the rap on Shaker was that it's gone way downhill in recent years. It's so true.
Will say this, the restaurant staff is amazing and the food is very solid.

Unpleasant experience, a common occurrence
So we arrive for our tee time to find the course backed up because the mowers are just starting to cut the greens, really? T times start at 6:30 and the mowers start at 6:40, so we are delayed at the start and every hole as we wait for mowers. We make the turn and have nowhere to go as we find they start golfers on every side, turn too soon, too bad you have to wait. Pack the course, expect players to wait at the turn, but hurry up we have an outing and need the cart. Sand traps are in terrible condition, not enough rakes, and broken rakes laying in the sand? Tee boxes are a mess, they could move them occasionally. Not a good experience, to many good courses in this area to put up with substandard conditions and poor management.
not the course it use to be.
I grew up playing this course. Oh how it has fallin from grace. Greens are great but everything thing else needs work. The bunkers are unplayable. The tee boxes are a mess. The rough is real thin and patchy. If you like to play the ball down , well good luck with that.
Thanks for playing Shaker Run Golf Club. We hear you about the conditions you experienced and we are constantly working towards the best Shaker Run possible. We have informed our staff and team about the bunkers and tee boxes and will audit the conditions to bring them back up. We hope to see you again soon and let us know how we can assist in making your next round the best one yet!
Back In Form
Shaker Run is finally coming back to where it used to be back in the early 2000's before the conditions were bad. We played on a Wednesday in the mid-morning. The tee boxes were ok, but the Fairways and Greens were finally in AWESOME shape. The pace of play was good (probably due to it being a weekday) but we were glad to get around in 4 1/2 hours. The greens are looking good, and rolling true. Still need a little bunker work; but the heavy rains probably caused most of that. All in all we were glad that we played.
Hello and thanks! We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your round at Shaker Run Golf Club. Happy to hear that the conditions at the golf course are back up to excellent shape. We are glad you came out to play too, and we look forward to your return visit!
