First Time Playing Westpark in more than 1 Year
I am 64 and I like courses that understand weekend golf. The gold tees are to short 5600 yards so I play the white tees. Westpark had the white tees back with the blue tees on 17 of the 18 holes. You just don't do that on a weekend. You also don't hide pin positions on weekends. Weekend golf is about keeping the pace moving and understanding that there are many players either because of age or playing ability that do not need to be playing ultra difficult course setup on weekend play. Westpark showed me they don't understand weekend golf.
Westpark.. well is Westpark
West Park is for the Blue Collar golfer. Nothing fancy about it and they rarely go above and beyond to bring you the best course conditions. At times, the prices are extremely unreasonable given the conditions of the course. There are several courses that are only 15-20 minutes away that top this course easily and prices are barely higher. I come to this course when I want to play a fast and cheap round. They do not take care of their greens or fairways. Sometimes you actually prefer to be in the rough so you can hit off grass and not dirt. Their sand, well it is not sand. It is garbage. If you land in the sand, give yourself a free relief. This course could be great but obviously management doesn't care enough to put the money into it. Their staff have their ups and downs. A couple of them are amazing but the rest are worthless and do not make you feel welcomed. Last time I played there I had a couple of their workers drive in front of us while we were teeing off and smacked a sign with, what I assumed, was a club that was left behind.
Not bad a bad course
Before going golf now.com check the current rate on the course. The green and fairways need work but other than for the price and practice round is fair.
Really good for the money.
I am a beginner, and so I would. Say this course is challenging, but also fun. The pace of play is good, and most people are good about keeping the speed up. I was by myself the other day, an caught up to a foursome on a par 3, and they saw me at the tee while they were down at the green and still let me play through. Everyone I have encountered is pleasant...from staff to fellow golfers. The greens are in pretty good shape, and most of the fairways are in decent shape. Again, I'm a beginner, and so from the limited knowledge I have about golf courses, I would say this one is good for the value, and also a good experience!
Great bargain
Course is in excellent condition. Some challenging holes, but really fair. Not too crowded. Enjoyed a lot at a more than fair price. A lot of nature: Saw deers, rabbits and even a ground dog.
Accurate Approaches are a Must
With small greens accurate shots are required. Its best to stay out of the trees too. The course is on the short side but its challenging. Its a good value for the money if you've never played.
Great course for someone who is just starting to play golf
The course is not to hard to play. I would say it's a medium in difficulty.
Westpark
Great mid-tier course, played several times and would definitely recommend!
Std Review Title
Not much to complain or rave about. This course was a good challenge for my group, all beginners, who shot a 104, 109 and 125x2.
I though the greens could have been in better condition, but I'm not going blame my short game on it.
Drying out
Over all good course, but it is starting to dry out and get thin in spots. The Greens where well cared for, but several fairways had dry and or thin spots. The course is a good value and plays well.
the course needs some investment to upgrade. fairways and traps.
Holes need to be rerouted. Too much Cris-crossing .Fairways are burnt out. Bunkers need to be deepened. Rates are low but I would not pay more than the discounted rate.
Terrible shape
Because I live in Leesburg, I've played this course many times over the years, but have NEVER seen it in such TERRIBLE shape. With July & August coming up, there is no way they can recover this year. I'll see you next year???
This course needs to tell customers about course conditions.
Westpark GC had a lot of rain in the week leading up to Sunday 6/15 when I played. I made the tee time on Golfnow.com for 18 holes. When I got to the course the pro shop attendant informed me in a rude manner that only 9 holes were open. It appears that they did not tell Golfnow.com about their issues. Also, the 2-some we were paired with called the day before to make their tee time and were not told of course conditions either. The course had been closed the previous 3 days due to flooding. Also, Westpark did not have my reservation which indicated to them that they were overbooked by Golfnow.
Poor Customer Serivce
I played today with my son. The course was very wet due to rain, and they had carts stay on the path. On the 12th hole we forgot and briefly went off the cart path. As we were getting ready to hit our second shots the Head Greenskeeper Bart came up to us and preceded to yell at us and tell us "come on use your head" regarding the cart off the path. No I acknowledge that we were wrong and off the path, but Bart was without doubt the most rude employee of any golf course I have ever played.
It is a shame that people like this still exist in a service industry. They should not let him have any contact with people, I don't care how good of a greenskeeper he is.
Westpark if you want to look and see who I am, I had the 12:06 tee time today.
Decent Course worth Green Fees
Fairways and Greens were consistently groomed throughout the course. Rough was well kept and playable, not too challenging to play out of the rough. Bunkers need work and left you desiring more out of the bunkers. Bunker on hole 10 was filled with rocks and was clearly under construction but not marked. Other bunkers were stiff and the club essentially bounced when striking the ball.
Course in good shape
The course is in good shape. There are still bunker issues, but fairways and greens are good. Pace of play is usually an issue but this last time finished 18 in just over 4 hours.
A typical Muni
No surprises, a typical muni course if you can drive straight the scoring opportunities abound. The courses is in good shape and the greens are consistent. The fairways are well groomed and the rough is not impossible. A fair challenge for anybody, well worth a green fees.
Inexpensive but slow
The round was decent. The weather was great, but we were stuck behind a group with two children and the parents were pushing a stroller. It slowed us down quite a bit. The course was in great shape and the round overall wasn't bad for $29.
Nice day to be out
Weather was beautiful, pace was a bit slow, bunkers could have used some sand-very dry. Overall, course was in great shape, has improved over the years. Price thru GolfNow was great for a Saturday afternoon.
