Although it hadn't rained for three days, the course was "cartpath only" and extremely wet/muddy. A few balls completely disappeared into the wet conditions without a chance of being found.
Muddy!!!!
It had not rained in days and this course was still disgustingly muddy. I cannot believe they were even allowing people to play many of the holes. you would land your ball in the fairway and it would completely plug to where you couldn't possibly find it. I went through almost two sleeves of balls on good shots. Other than that the course layout is okay and I may come back and play here if it hasn't rained in over a month.

What a waste!!
The day started out badly as I was chastised by one of the workers there because I did not know that the check-in spot was on the outside of the building! There is no sign or any indication and she was blatantly rude! Then, we did not see a marshall all day long and the round lasted over five hours! We will never play here again on the weekend!

Unacceptable
The course penalized me because I booked through golf now. They wouldn't provide me a cart until 15 minutes before tee time and they made me play alone even though there was a threesome booked at the same time. Round took 5 + hours , stuck behind all foursomes in front. They made comments about how they don't make any money throughgolfnow, which makes me wonder why they signed on. Terrible experience.

Surprised!
I play at a lot of very nice courses but I didn't expect this one to be so great, but it actually was. I had not played it in 20 years so it was a real treat!

Good day, slowish play
This is a great course for the price. Sure there are a few spots that could be have more grass and some greens with crab grass but overall it is in great shape for a municipal course. Also, lots of mature trees and some deer to see.

Bad shape and too much riffraff without golf knowledge
Used to like the place. Grew up playing it. Maybe now i play other enough to know what a dump this place really is. No fairway grass, work cones placed by greens, ineffective rude staff just to name a few. And brace yourself for a loooong round secondary to the type of inner city player youll expect to encounter. Got alittle more money? Its worth more to go somewhere else.
Deer Run is Endearing
Played this course for the 3rd time recently. It is a must play for us everytime we visit from Canada. The value for the money is the attraction here; a nice, well maintained course at a very low price for the fall rate. We're playing it again tomorrow. On Mondays, they have a fish special in the clubhouse, a buck a filet (and they are big, and good).

Great Greens
This course is in great shape. Level of play is average with wide fairways and fairly flat greens. Have played here several times but never seen it crowed, so the pace of play is enjoyable. Well worth the stop over if you are passing through the area. Convenient to Newport News/Williamsburg (PHF) airport, Busch Gardens theme park and Colonial Williamsburg.
