Greens
The green complexes are very very large. They are in great condition but the slowest greens I have ever played on.
Loved Elk Ridge
We had an amazing day at Elk Ridge. The weather was fantastic apart from some occasional wind, which is to be expected in the gorge. The course played very well. The scenery at Elk Ridge is amazing with views of the gorge on every hole.
It felt like we had the course to ourselves. Rarely seeing another group. The course attendant correctly started us on the back 9, which just made our whole day. Not a single slow down waiting for another group or a single time playing in front of another group.
I thoroughly enjoyed my round at Elk Ridge at absolutely recommend it to anybody thinking about driving out to Carson.
my new favorite
I play most of the public courses in northern and central Oregon, and other notable ones as well. I found Elk Ridge to be a wonderful experience set in one of the most beautiful areas in the Northwest. The greens, while not overly fast, are outstanding, with all of the contour you would want. Although the fairways are very good, there are areas of clover which may bother some country clubers with open shoes.
Newer course, fun greens, outstanding views.
Only was able to play the front nine, which are a "linksy" layout. Greens are receptive and once you're there, very undulating and fun. Greens are still relatively new, so they are pristine yet not very fast yet. Well-bunkered, in that with every tee shot and approach you are confronted with the consequences as they interfere with you line of sight. Sand is excellent - not a gimme in the PNW, as are the well-drained fairways. This course is on the south facing/north side of the Columbia River Gorge, a National Scenic Area - and it is stunning. You have views of the steep southern "walls" of the Gorge (Oregon side). Due to it's aspect the course dries very well. Also, VERY friendly staff, good range/putting green, new clubhouse with perhaps slightly above average food. As this course matures, and if maintenance can keep pace, it could emerge as a top 10 in the area.
developing nugget
The course does not require you to hit it a mile, but placement is very important.
The course if fairly new and has great potential to be a true gem.
Really dry
It's great to go to a course in the Gorge that is so dry!
Tough greens
We played the course with the green having recently been plugged. We did not know at the time of our booking that the greens had recently been plugged. The greens were very slow. However, the rest of the courseware in great shape. I will continue the course.
The setting for Elk Ridge is spectacular. Love playing there.
Really enjoy playing at Elk Ridge. It's a great get-a-way for a round of golf. The course is well maintained and the pace of play is really good.
Best winter course around
The views of the gorge are amazing. The drainage is remarkable on this course, not a wet fairway anywhere, even after days of heavy rain. Well maintained course, a lot of fun to play. The greens are tough because of the slopes, but roll nicely and true. The elk burger and local micro brew topped off a great day. Staff is very friendly.
Good for golf here Elk Ridge
It was nice golf course and condition including weather.
And it was very valuable round for money.
I strongly recommend you to play golf here at Elk Ridge Golf course sometime later
very playable
great layout , greens were a challenge but in good shape, thought walking may be difficult but was easy. was windy but expected that in the gorge, beautiful views, friendly staff
hidden gem
this was the first time playing this course...i only came across it at the portland golf show.
not massively long but when the wind blows which im guessing it does all the time you can get in all sorts of trouble..i had 1 birdie 8 pars 6 bogies 1 double and 2 triples...
it is amazingly dry and we got bounce and roll...in feburary....
the greens are very tricky to read and the course is hilly but not stupid...unlike a course a few miles west down the gorge
go and play it ..you wont be disapointed
Great winter conditions
The greens are consistent and well maintained. Nice layout and well drained. It's worth the drive.
once nice course gone bad
We were the first group off and I did not see one trap without footprints. They looked like the grounds crew hadn't raked them in weeks. It was cart path only and greens were recently plugged( not mentioned on golfnow) We would have brought our pull carts if we had known. In past years the course was in much better shape. Spend some money on maintenance and bring Greg back
This course has poor greens.
I love the condition of all the golf course, but THE GREENS. The putting surface is very poor. Also the wind is very strong in this area. If not for the green condition, this would be a top 5 winter course.
Elk Ridge
We played on a day that was forecast to be dry in Portland, not so much in Carson, Wa. Most of the day was slightly drizzly, low clouds, and then periods of dry weather. Then the last two holes, the sky opens up. I only relay this part so players can evaluate whether Elk Ridge is a place to go when weather is questionable. The course itself is a fun, scenic venue. This is the third time to play, and the numbers of players on the course I could count on two hands. The weather will be challenging at times, but course conditions are excellent. The only negative for some golfers is it is not a real long course, there are several very short par 4 holes. (which for other golfers, might be a positive.)
course is in pretty good shape
It wasn't too steep of walking to play. And the couse fairways were in good conditions
Beautiful course... But the help...
Needs a lot of help. It took 15 minutes to check in because we evidently need to provide our life history before golfing. The food took 1/2 hour with 2 people waiting.
However, even with the greens being sanded, I love this course and the layout. I'll be back, but I do wish they could get additional help, or folks that were a little more congenial with customers.
Wonderful!
This course was wonderful for a variety of reasons; the most important being the incredible vistas from every hole.
If anyone were ever wanting to show a guest what the State of Oregon and Oregon Golf is all about, I recommend you take them here.
The greens are immaculate; however, they are extremely undulating and the pin placements on the day I played were vicious. Many, if not most, were located on the slope of one of the undulations.
I highly recommend this course.
Just hope lots of people will visit Carson Hot Springs and keep golf course! It's a great area!,
We really had a great time at this beautiful course!! Hope to be able to go back before going back to AZ!
