Fun to play
This course is fun to play. It is well maintained and greens and fairways are beautiful but some of the bunkers need a little work. Choice of tees can make it more challenging and there is water and lots of it, but that is what is so much fun about playing there. Don't take me wrong its fair and a lot of fun.
Beautiful course
Beautiful course and the Bermuda grass is awesome. The second cuts are perfect and the greens are fast. Improvements recommended are sand to repair on golf carts and ball washers.
Best Course in NW Mississippi
Year over year the best greens anywhere! Great staff!
Well Manicured Course
This course is in tip top shape. The greens are exceptional and the fairways are manicured the way a golf course should be. The staff is nice, friendly and very helpful. Can't wait to retuen.
We are very glad you enjoyed the course and our staff. Can't wait for you to return!
I wanted to like...
I wanted to like this course because of the links concept behind it, but it just didn't do it for me. The greens are as good as reviewed, but the woods lining the course were too overgrown and took away from the links-style vibe they were going for. I also thought there were too many blind shots to play good links golf.
Third annual trip to play the course
What could make this course better would be distance markers. Sand traps need to be drained and filled with...sand! Nice package deal with lunch. Conditions were VERY GOOD! Cart paths were in great shape and maintained.
In great shape, perfect greens and fairways. Bunkers are usually awful, and still are
Great course
This is a wonderful course with a great challenging layout. I love players my this course when I'm in town as it has lots to offer.
Best in the Area
North Creek is easily my favorite course in the Memphis metro area. The greens are immaculate - they run fast and true. If you get your putt on the right line, it's going in. The only reason my review isn't five stars across the board is because the bunkers drain very poorly. They're basically additional water hazards. If you're good enough to avoid the sand, the rest of the course is five stars.
Nothing Special
Played this course on getaway day after a 4-day stay in the area. Wanted a low-key place where I could get in a fast round. Pace of play could have been worse I guess, but the course itself didn't really live up to its reviews. Yes the greens were pretty good, but that's really all I can think of as strengths of this course.
The golf course is shoe-horned between a housing development and Horn Lake Creek. Neither comes into play at all - you only see the creek maybe on one hole. But there's barely enough room for a golf course on the land available. Many holes are barely 300 yards - I hit lots of hybrids off the tee - and in many places the tee box for the next hole is uncomfortably close to the previous green. We were stacked up a little bit, sometimes a group finishing one hole with two groups on the next tee, and the lack of space made this situation pretty uncomfortable. I don't really enjoy teeing off in front of the previous group, or in some cases players on the previous green!
The course design attempted to compensate for the lack of space between holes by sculpting large mounds as barriers. Unfortunately the tightness of the layout meant these mounds were definitely in play, and wayward drives could result in very awkward sidehill lies.
As for the layout, I can think of one memorable hole, the par-5 #13, a nice dogleg par-5 with a huge bunker preventing any attempt to shorten the hole, and an elevated green - actually a double-green shared with #15. The cart path actually tunnels under this green - another testament to the cramped nature of this course, and maybe the only memorable feature of an otherwise unremarkable golf course.
course was in great shape for early spring
This course is not a long in yardage but is a lot of fun to play. There is some decisions to make on some of the par 5's. The greens are in great shape and water hazards come into play. I really do enjoy playing this golf course.
Great courae
Play Northcreek and you will not be disappointed...
Bunkers Need Sand
Have played this course several times. Greens are always in great shape. Only thing needed is sand in bunkers.
wednesday scramble
Just played in North Creek's 2 person scramble. We shot 2 under par and did not win anything but played with 2 guys who won $80 in the 2nd flight. Greens were fantastic but the best part was the food (tacos)afterwards, I wish my wife could cook that good. Will definitely be back next Wednesday.
One of the best courses in the Memphis area
About me : 10.5 hdcp, 3 year player (2017), mid 30s, 240yd - 275yd driver "smart range" according to Arccos Golf tracked shots (255yd legitimate tracked average). I play at least once a week, sometimes more. I play when I travel if at all possible. I walk/push the course whenever I can.
I feel like North Creek is one of the best courses in the Memphis area.
The clubhouse employees - some of the best and friendliest I've come across. I always get a smile and feel like they value the guests that play at the course. I play NC often and even the maintenance guys / cart attendants are courteous and friendly.
The course difficulty - This is the primary course I started playing as a beginner. The white/forward tees are challenging for mid to upper handicap players, but not so difficult that they would have a bad round. The silver/middle tees are for the mid teen handicapper who can legitimately shoot in the mid 80s and lower 90s with a 220+ yd driver. The gold tees have allowed me as I progressed in my game to be challenged if I want to take it on. Gold tees change the course on number 1 - 250yd drive required to be inside 165yd - and especially on #14 - 210yd carry required just to make it over the valley and be 180+ out.
Advice to players : pick the right set of tees for your or your groups handicap and you will enjoy your round and not hinder pace of play. My normal set of tees is the Silver and I can shoot mid to lower 80s from that box. I will float between silver and gold to change the course and make things interesting.
The course greens - other reviewers have mentioned it, but these are some of the most accurate, true, and nicest greens in this area. It is clear that the course superintendent and maintenance staff does their best to ensure that the best feature of the course *stays* the best feature of the course and beats all other courses handily. Look at the putt from both sides of the cup, get a line, and sink it. These greens will not disappoint you and will leave you wishing that your regular course had greens this good. Please bring your ball mark repair tool and make sure you know how to use it. :)
The fairways - well maintained, great grass, good drainage. I've never had a bad lie in the fairway (save hitting an un-repaired divot). Yardage markers are accurate and consistent on every hole. Sure, if you get 1" overnight, expect cart path only and appreciate that they do force cart path only - it keeps the course amazing.
The only thing that I could suggest for improvement is the bunkers. I know from playing out there frequently that the staff works their tail off to keep the bunkers as good as they possibly can for their condition. Sometimes after a good rain, the bunkers can be difficult to play out of and I believe the bunkers are due for a good overhaul. That said - hats off to the NC guys and gals for keeping those things as good as they possibly can - you don't have an easy job, thank you for your hard work. I hope the owners are listening to these comments.
Carts are almost brand new Yamaha carts. I play at different courses when I travel and I really really appreciate the features of the NC Yamaha carts. USB chargers, tough carts, plenty of storage, bag space for my giant cart bag, etc.. The only thing I'd ask for is that they add a sand bucket to encourage players to repair their divots. You can't repair a divot if you don't have sand on the cart.
Walking - this course is very well setup for walking. Green to Tee is very short on most holes - never more than 75-100yd.
Tournaments - I've played two tournaments out here and the course is setup so well for a tournament. If you're looking for a place to host yours, you won't be disappointed with the course or the staff.
Practice - driving range is a good size with plenty of rotation space so that in the spring and summer you are almost always hitting off of good lies. Plenty of marked targets. Practice green is mid-sized for this area, but it is always well cared for.
The greens are the best in Town
North creek is a very nice clean and well kept golf course. Has very friendly staff and great carts. The Greens are absolutely beautiful! You can't beat them in this area! Great place to play!
Slow
Pace of play was terribly slow. There was a 5-some in front of us (seriously, on a Saturday?). Took 5+ hours to complete the round. A single was playing behind us and kept hitting into us. Serious lack of golf etiquette at this course. I like the course layout, but should never all 5-somes and need marshalls to monitor the pace of play.
Thank you for the 5 star review! Come back and see us again soon.
