Has potential
This course has insane potential but is lacking the financial side to make it happen. Even when talking to one of the employees I was saddened to hear that they extended everybody’s shifts hours and cut the number of employees working. The person even went as far to say the course owner “penny pinches”. All the staff were friendly and helpful, but the course lay out and design is atrocious. I feel like every hole I finished I had no idea where the next hole even was and even other golfers were asking us where holes were located. Some cart paths were blocked off with string leading you to go off roading which I’m not a stranger to doing but I felt it just made it more confusing. The greens were in fabulous shape but the fairways are thick and not very firm. A majority of the holes in this course are blind shots and the yardages listed on the score card are completely different than the signs on the tee box. This is such an easy fix and I know it’s not been fixed due to a lack of funds. It was fun and I always enjoy getting out for a round (better than working) but I had a chip on my shoulder about the things I discussed.
Course was in horrendous shape. Sad to see it go downhill like that.
Great things happening at Boulder Oaks
I first played Boulder Oaks 4 years ago and WOW what a change in the conditions! Greens are now consistent with very few small bad spots. Fairways are starting to fill in nicely. Most tee boxes need help, grass is very inconsistent and crabgrass is prevalent. Like the rerouting of the holes as well. Another bonus is the new carts! Thanks
Pace
They let groups of 6 on the course. No Marshall was around to push pace of play.
Not Happy
I played a good round; however, they have changed the course layout and my GPS scoring app did not know which hole I was on. The reason the pace of play was excellent was because there were very few golfers on the course. My main complaint is that the cart rental was more than the price of the green fees. $25,00 is way out of line to rent a cart.
Needs a lot of work
Tee boxes & greens were okay, but fairways were really rough. Most cart paths were torn up or pure gravel. Very slow play with no one to assist. I would not play here again.
Awful
Greens are awful with dead grass, flow of play is awful no true stop for the back nine and is split into back 10. Plus there the new front nine is such an awful start. Tee boxes aren’t taken care of either.
Get What You Pay For
This course is in ROUGH shape and it is pretty challenging because of it. I walked all over the place trying to find the first hole, the course was redesigned a while (?) ago and need a lot more work. The signage is terrible, the rough is full of holes and ankle high grass. Keep it in the fairway or your ball is gone.
The Most Below Average Public Course
Boulder Oaks is definitely a two star course. It should not be 50 bucks to play here at 3pm. I think 25 would be a much more fair price for what you get. The fairways are bad on almost every hole. The sand traps are hard caked dirt. Only redeeming factor is the greens which are just flat out average. This course is in major need of a rework and attention. Compared to other courses near by like Mt. Woodson and Native Oaks, this course is overpriced and in bad condition. That being said, I lost my phone during the round and the staff did everything they could to help me find it(very nice people!). I would recommend this course for beginners who need practice and don't want to hold up nicer public courses.
Under construction
I usually like to play this course, but there was a lot of maintenance going on. One hole was not playable and not on the scorecard. We were not told of the conditions. Also, there was a group of 5 playing ahead of us. Made it slow a little. I am going to wait a few months before I play this course again.
This was my first bad experience here, hopefully just a one time thing.
Better than Vineyard
This course is solid. Conditions are SoCal conditions, but the layout is fun and challenging.
Disaster round
This was the most confusing round I’ve ever played. The score cards are wrong. Me and my playing partner had didn’t distances on our scorecards. The signs for the hole were mislabeled. It’s under construction. I would not recommend playing here. We were on “hole 3” but the bench said 14 and our scorecards showed 2 different distances that did not match the bench sign. Sooo confusing.
